Johnny Cash, American V Release Date Announced...

In the Pre-American Recordings days he did some good covers of "Cats In The Cradle", "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and "Highway Patrolman" - also he covered another Springsteen song "Johnny 99". Not heard Cash's version though.

Cash had a knack for covers. Always did. I'd rank him and Willie Nelson as the two people who could always do a good cover version. I never thought American IV was the strongest of the American Recordings. Cash's health aside some of the songs that made it onto the album were a bit iffy and are hard to listen to (I find "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" pretty tough to listen to), yet songs like "Big Iron" (appears on special editions and the LP version) and "Wichita Lineman" (was released on the Hurt single) are fantastic.

I can hear Cash singing "If You Could Read My Mind" in my head as I think he might've. Further On(Up The Road) is one of my favorite recent Bruce Springsteen tracks, so I'm really hyped to hear Johnny's version.

Trent Reznor has said himself that "Hurt" isn't his song anymore, because Johnny Cash's version of it was so good.
