Mazzy Star

So yeah. Last week's House ended with the song "Into Dust" by Mazzy Star playing. I loved the song, downloaded it, fantastic song. Anyway, I want more Mazzy Star or more 80's pop in the same vein as Mazzy Star. Can anyone help?

"Five String Serenade" by Mazzy Star is one of my favourite songs ever.

I'd hardly call Mazzy Star 80s pop, what with them being predominantly active in the 90s, and not being all that popular

Check out "Ride It On", though, or "Fade Into You", and possibly their cover of "Wild Horses", that's probably their best work. The Delays did a fantastic version of "Ride It On" too, for a Rough Trade compilation, that's worth checking out if you like the original. Hope Sandoval's solo material is definitely worth a listen too, but it's not quite as good as Mazzy Star were.

As for bands in a similar vein, try This Mortal Coil or Cocteau Twins, they fit that kind of ethereal female-vocals vaguely psych-folk kind of vibe to a tee. And are brilliant bands, even if you can't figure out any Cocteau Twins lyrics ever.

If you liked Into Dust then you should really download the "So Tonight That I Might See You" album, because it's pretty much the same sorts of songs, and they're all awesome, in particular Fade Into You, which is their most famous (and probably best) song. We've all heard it somewhere but we don't know what it is.
