You know, I've heard a lot of bad stuff said about the "camping trip" but that whole debacle was used to build character for two people who up until now had really been simply "Harry's friends" and really had nothing else to them. I won't say I didn't find some of it boring as hell, but I knew what she was trying to do with it. The movie being split into two really doesn't bother me that much as I'm more interested in The Half Blood Prince anyway.

I wouldn't go as far as to say they had nothing else to them. Ron's character errupted after he became less comic relief in POA, and Hermione's always been dead deep. Neither were ever one-dimensional, they were far from it.

EDIT: Although, now that I think about it, I can't say the same about their characters in the films, so the extra time should help that way. I'm disappointing in the lack of character-clash we saw between Hermione and Luna in the OOTP movie, that could have really helped Watson's Hermione develop.
