Smackdown News

-Smackdown scored a 5.72 rating for Thursday night while Thunder weighed in with a 5.03. This is the second week in succession that Smackdown has defeated WCW’s flagship show Nitro in the ratings. Everyone backstage is very excited by the recent ratings.

-There is discussions between the WWF and the USA Network about making HeAT a prime-time show. Smackdown is coming to the end of it’s contract on UPN and the WWF is stalling over the extended contract that the television network has offered. If HeAT moved to prime-time it would be able to attract higher ratings than Smackdown but the WWF are uncertain if a Sunday night wrestling show would draw.

-Kurt Angle’s future plans have changed drastically. He will be used to buff out the recent storyline between D-X and The Big Show before stepping up as Chris Jericho’s challenger to the WWF Intercontinental Championship. Chris Benoit is expected to move up the card while Jericho andAngle will work on a brutal feud that will eventually not even include the second tier any Championship belts.

-Numerous members of the WWF roster are getting rather annoyed by their lack of appearances. The Godfather and Chyna are the most vocal although both are set to compete on HeAT. The WWF has quite a large active roster and right now is focusing on the new breed of superstars, namely Jericho, Angle, Benoit, Edge, Christian and the Hardys. Those seven men are expected to make-up the future of the WWF and could very well dominate the main event scene by the end of 2001.

-Ted DiBiase has pitched an idea to bring back his “Million Dollar Champion.” WWF officials are looking into it.

-WCW Saturday Night drew a 1.23.

Contender Edition: Preview

Sunday 7th May 2000

Ted DiBiase has stamped his huge mark on Sunday Night HeAT by announcing five matches that are loaded with potential. “The Million Dollar Commissioner” is set to handle his reign as the man in charge of the WWF, the same way as he was four years previous dangling that little piece of opportunity in front of peoples faces.

The main event on HeAT has the potential to completely change a match already booked for Judgment Day as The Godfather and Chyna will clash for a shot at Eddie Guerrero. Both superstars have been on somewhat of a “lull” since Wrestlemania and will be looking to get back on track on Sunday night, with a confident victory that will see them challenge for the WWF European Championship on Smackdown.

The other four matches that are booked will all lead to Championship opportunities for the victors.

“The Million Dollar Man” has resurrected the Women’s Division in one match. Any one of Tori, Lita, Jacqueline or Trish Stratus will get a shot at Stephanie McMahon on RAW is WAR that could see any one of these women walk out as Women’s Champion. Naturally, Triple H will be on hand to help his wife out but her run of luck can’t last forever, right?

Two tag team matches have been scheduled with differing awards on offer. Al Snow and Steve Blackman are set to take on Kai En Tai for the right to face The Hardy Boys on RAW is WAR. The new WWF Tag Team Champions said on Smackdown that they welcomed all comers and one of these upstart teams will have a shot at upsetting the high-flying pairing. In the other tag match, Rodney and X-Pac have a chance to take on Dean Malenko for the Light-Heavyweight as they team with Pete Gas and the Road Dogg respectively. The winner will take on Malenko next week on HeAT.

And in the final match booked for the show, four men have a shot at Tazz for the WWF Hardcore Championship. Former Champion The Big Boss Man will be joined by Stevie Richards, Albert and D’Lo Brown in what promises to a bloody affair.

Tune in this Sunday for WWF’s scorching HeAT!

Confirmed Matches

Albert vs. The Big Boss Man vs. D’Lo Brown vs. Stevie Richards

Mean Street Posse (Pete Gas & Rodney) vs. X-Pac & Road Dogg

Jacqueline vs. Lita vs. Ivory vs. Trish Stratus

Al Snow & Steve Blackman vs. Kai En Tai (Funaki & TAKA Michinoku)

Backlash was pretty good. I was surprised to see the Hardy's walk out with the gold, And a bit shocked at Foley's heel turn too. You got some good stuff following Backlash. But I'm not too keen on DiBiase being brought in, He never seemed like the commissioner type to me, But who knows? Mankind versus The Rock should be a killer feud. I'm not too happy to see Kane continuing his feud with X-Pac, Since he's ready for the main event, But atleast you can blow it off with the big red machine winning the feud. I do wish you push people like Chyna and Godfather, And a few other wrestlers who aren't Jericho/Radicalz/Angle, Since it'd be neat to see what you can do with say, The Posse, Godfather, D'Lo, The Holly's during this time period. Keep up the good work.

Contender Edition

Sunday 7th May 2000

Ted DiBiase made a shock appearance on Sunday Night HeAT and welcomed the World Wrestling Federation to his new initiative the Sunday Night HeAT Contender Edition. “The Million Dollar Commissioner” explained to the fans that the HeAT after each Pay-Per-View would see a number of contender’s named for the Championship belts of the WWF.

However, Ted was interrupted by Co-WWF Champion Mankind who strolled on HeAT’s stage. Mankind explained that he was unhappy about having to face The Big Show and Kane in the coming weeks but Ted simply shrugged. He said that he wanted to be as fair as possible, and to really enjoy his time in the WWF, Mankind would have to get used to the “Million Dollar” way.

In the main event of the show, The Godfather took on Chyna for a shot at Eddie Guerrero and his WWF European Championship. Before the match The Godfather asked Chyna to join his Ho train. Chyna refused, but The Godfather said that eventually he would make her, his Ho. In the subsequent match Chyna really went for it. She seemed insulted by The Godfather’s words and dominated over the biggest superstar for the opening minutes but after the action spilled to the outside, the master of the Ho Train rallied to cause the upset after planting with the vicious side-walk slam, the pin was elementary. As HeAT drew to a close, The Godfather and his Hos danced in the centre of the ring around the limp body of the Ninth Wonder of the World.

A tag team Championship shot was on the line in an earlier match between Kai En Tai and the Head Cheese duo of Al Snow and Steve Blackman. Snow and Blackman really showed that with every match they are improving as a team by using their height and weight advantage to dominate the Japanese pairing for the majority of the match. However, they struggled to keep the plucky fighters down until they started to bend the rules. Al Snow got a handful of Funaki’s tights to record the three count but after the victory, the WWF Tag Team Champions stormed the ring. Matt dropkicked Steve Blackman from the ring but Al Snow managed to escape, trading insults with the duo as he backed up the ramp.

In the other tag team match on the card X-Pac and Rodney were fighting for a shot at the Light-Heavyweight Championships with their respective tag partners and in a comfortable victory, Road Dogg and X-Pac had enough about them to take care of the Mean Street Posse and Joey Abs on the outside of the ring to set up Dean Malenko versus X-Pac for next week’s Sunday Night HeAT main event.

In the other contender matches, Stevie Richards and Trish Stratus pulled off the “shock” results. Richards, the former ECW superstar really showed off his extreme side as he destroyed The Big Boss Man, Albert and D’Lo Brown in a bloody, gruesome affiar while Trish Stratus shocked the more experienced women’s wrestlers with an excellent showing of brawling and speed to book a date with Stephanie McMahon.

Elsewhere on HeAT, Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle shared their thoughts with Michael Cole in exclusive interviews. Benoit admitted he was pushed to the brink at Backlash and then promised to make light work of Jericho at Judgment Day now that he knew what he had to offer. Kurt Angle was his usual cocky self. He called the Backlash main event a minor blip, and promised to be waiting in the wings for the winner of The Rock and Mankind. He said he wouldn’t mess up his second chance and return himself to the former glories of the 1996 Olympics.

Stevie Richards def. The Big Boss Man, Albert & D’Lo Brown

HeAT News

-Sunday Night HeAT scored a rather respectable 1.87 rating for it’s broadcast.

-The Contender Edition was an idea pitched to the creative team by Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko. WWF officials are pleased with the first broadcast of the show and will implement it is future months. It is a nice way for the WWF to put the “lesser-used” workers in small feuds with Champions to see how the crowd reacts.

-Backstage at Sunday Night HeAT, Mick Foley announced his engagement to Rachel Andrews, a daughter of Linda McMahon from a relationship before she met Vince. There is a 16 year gap between the happy couple however Linda has given the pair her blessing by offering Mick a contract for life.

-Chyna and The Godfather are set to work a HeAT exclusive angle in the coming weeks.

Just some quick thoughts with regards to the shows since Backlash.

- I have to concur with Baby Hewey about DiBiase. Even though in the game he's really charismatic, something about him doesn't fit. Had he become a Christian at this time? I just remember watching a shoot which bsically said he left the wrestling business because things were getting too smutty. Having said all that, I like what he's done so far so I'll see how it pans out.

- The co-champions business. Well, it seems a little odd tome because, as you say, the same schtick was done with Jericho and Chyna earlier in the year. I was going to suggest vacating the belt but that always cheapens it. I do look forward to a future Rock/Mankind match as the chemistry they had in the ring was unbelievable I thought.

- The midcard seems to be shaping up nicely, and the snippet about next year's wrestlemania about Benoit v Edge gives a nice indication of where you're taking things. In all seriousness though, if this diary continues, you'll have some serious work to build up Edge and Benoit to the level where they eclipse Rock, HHH, Austin and co.

- I really like the idea of a contender's heat to build up the lower midcard and it raises some interesting possibilities and gives Heat a more 'must watch' feel that it's lacked throughout much of its tenure. Oh and Chyna becoming one of the Godfather's ho's? In a completely platonic way I'd mark.

All in all, things seem to be progressing nicely keep it up and look forward to seeing the continuing build-up ot Judgment day.

There are three matches already announced for Ted DiBiase’s first full RAW is WAR in charge. The fans have reacted suspiciously to the return of “The Million Dollar Man” to the WWF, and many expect that his reasoning is far from being clear-cut.

However all of that speculation is taking a back seat on RAW as the fans are set to see Mankind make his return to the World Wrestling Federation ring. The Co-WWF Champion will take the first of his two big challengers, The Big Show but Mankind can go into the match safe in the knowledge that where The Big Show has went recently D-Generation X have followed close behind; so the match will be anything but fair.

Smackdown ended with Chris Benoit locked in the Walls of Jericho and we are set to hear from the WWF Intercontinental Champion’s reaction to the move. ‘Y2J’ has said that he has turned over a new leaf. No more gimmicks. No more flashy countdowns. He simply wants that Championship Belt.

Two Championships that could change hands on RAW is WAR belong to Stephanie McMahon and The Hardy Boys. Following the first ever Contender Edition of Sunday Night HeAT, Trish Stratus and the Head Cheese duo of Al Snow and Steve Blackman are set to take their title shots at the earliest possibility. Stratus, who is a relative new-comer to the ring will hope to secure a huge victory at the start of her career, while the veteran duo of Snow and Blackman will be looking to find a way to take the belts from the ever-resourceful, high-impact pairing of the Hardy Brothers.

All this amazing action plus The Radicals, Edge & Christian, Kurt Angle and Co-WWF Champion The Rock… only on WWF’s RAW is WAR!

Confirmed Matches

Monday 8th May 2000

Raw is WAR was another packed-affair as rivalries heated up left, right and centre on the show.

Ted DiBiase opened the show in usual charismatic way by dangling that lucrative opportunity in front of the top WWF superstars. “The Million Dollar Commissioner” decided that after the WWF Championship match between Mankind and The Rock at Judgment Day he wants the next number one contender ready and waiting. Ted loves competition, but more importantly he enjoys a fair fight. So at Judgment Day he announced a four man elimination match to crown the next man to challenge for the WWF Championship, featuring The Big Show, Kurt Angle, Kane and Triple H. The winner would go to King of the Ring and challenge for the WWF Championship.

And straight away, all four men got in each other’s faces with Triple H orchestrating attacks on The Big Show and Kane that left both big men down and out. Kurt Angle however, stayed out of it completely. Angle simply repeated his feelings from HeAT where he promised not to mess up at the second time of asking.

In the main event, it was clear that The Big Show was still feeling the effects of the attack and wasn’t quite on it despite Shane McMahon’s vocal encouragement. Mankind looked as though he hadn’t stopped training and really went for the big man, despite his height and weight disadvantage. Although it ended up being outside interference that ended the match as Triple H and Kane got involved. The referee awarded the match to The Big Show after he was flattened by a Triple H sledgehammer shot but the show ended as Kurt Angle stood on the stage and just watched the other three men in the match laying into each other. Kane and Triple H were trading blows in the ring as RAW is WAR to a close.

One man very much absent from the huge brawl at the end of the show was The Rock. The Rock interrupted the show early on as Mankind stood the ring. Mankind had tried to explain his actions but the crowd were having none of it. They didn’t want to hear anything that he had to say and that only fuelled The Rock on as the People’s Champion really laid into Mankind verbally; before promising to not get involved later in the show as he knew Mankind would need all the practice he could to event think of defeating the Great One in the ring.

Another match set for Judgment Day really got a turn as Chris Jericho was left in a pile by Chris Benoit. Jericho stood in the ring and then replayed footage of Benoit screaming in pain at the end of Smackdown as he was locked in the Walls of Jericho. ‘Y2J’ said Benoit was lucky at Backlash that the match was a ladder one, and that was Jericho’s fault. He should have just left it a normal match and he would now be standing in the ring with the Intercontinental Championship, but before Jericho could continue The Radicals hit the ring and demolished Benoit’s opponent for Judgment Day. Jericho was down and out as Benoit locked in his own Crippler Crossface before leaving the “Saviour of RAW” in a horrible heap, obviously just as proud of his finishing manoeuvre.

Eddie Guerrero capped off a successful night for The Radicals as he teamed with Essa Rios to defeat Rikishi and Val Venis. It was clear that there was animosity between all four men ahead of their Judgment Day clash for Eddie’s belt and despite winning the match with a Frog Splash, Guerrero was set upon by his tag team partner after the match. Rios was the only man to walk freely out of the match and take a slight advantage before the Pay-Per-View in two weeks.

In the two Championship matches, the Champions kept their titles in very different fashion. Stephanie McMahon was helped by Road Dogg and X-Pac as she overcame a feisty Trish Stratus. Stratus really went for the victory and was almost successful before the tag team got involved, while The Hardy Boys and their challengers were knocked out cold during their match. Edge and Christian interrupted the match and then left the scene feeling quite pleased with themselves having made it very clear that they wanted their belts back. The ring was awash with limp bodies as the former Tag Team Champions retreated up the ramp.

And finally, Tazz issued an open invite to any challengers that there are in the WWF. The Human Suplex Machine said he was not going to run away from a fight like the other Champions and would instead welcome all-comers. He then added that he looked forward to crushing Stevie Richards after he claimed a title shot on Sunday Night HeAT.

RAW is WAR News

-RAW scored a season high 6.86 rating while Nitro remained on 5.49. The return of Mankind to the ring is attributed to the success of the show.

-Following the show on Monday night, Steve Blackman was sat down by Vince McMahon, Al Snow and good friend Val Venis. The group staged an intervention and Blackman agreed to go into rehab for a problem he has had for months. Vince McMahon has promised both Blackman and Hardcore Holly they will have jobs when they return from rehab.

-It is now believed that Test didn’t go into rehab. The WWF used the excuse to send Test away for a number of weeks development. He is set to return in the coming weeks.

-Mankind and The Big Show didn’t really click in their main event.

-The WWF officials are toying with a number of different possibilities for Judgment Day. There are numerous discussions ongoing about who will walk away with the belt and who will become the contender. The RAW main event between The Big Show and Mankind was a sign that they will not be working together as the match quality was poor.

Thursday 11th May 2000

This Thursday’s Smackdown is shaping up to be quite the evening with only three matches announced for the broadcast.

The Rock will take part in his second match in the build up to Judgment Day by facing off with Kurt Angle. This is The Rock’s chance to send out a message to Mankind after Ted DiBiase banned the pairing from touching each other. The People’s Champion will look to send out a message against the man that he pinned at Backlash to gain one half of the WWF Championship. Whereas Angle will see this as the perfect opportunity to send out a message to his rivals before Judgment Day.

Angle will clash with Triple H, The Big Show and Kane on Sunday 21st May and it can only be assumed that the four will clash on Thursday in some manner. Triple H has had recent trouble with The Big Show and along with D-Generation X, he has clashed with the Big Red Machine and as the WWF arrives in Los Angeles he will look to continue his dominating streak to leave him in the ideal position for Judgment Day.

In two confirmed title matches, two challengers from the Contender Edition of HeAT will take their Championship shots. Stevie Richards was impressive on Sunday as he battled his way past three hardcore specialists and will be looking to take out the former ECW World Champion, Tazz to claim his first piece of WWF Gold while The Godfather will take on Eddie Guerrero. There are sure to be some people with a close on this match namely Guerrero’s opponents for Judgment, Rikishi, Val Venis and Essa Rios however The Godfather is sure to take things one moment at a time and worry about the title belt before looking towards the Pay-Per-View.

We are also set to hear from the WWF Tag Team Champions after their second defence of their titles was interrupted. The Hardys were taking on the Head Cheese duo of Snow and Blackman before Edge & Christian left everyone out for the count. And on Smackdown, we are sure to hear from the Champions on the state on their division.

Plus expect appearances from The Radicals, Too Cool and Chris Jericho on WWF Smackdown!

Confirmed Matches

Hardcore Championship: Tazz © vs. Stevie Richards

European Championship: Eddie Guerrero © vs. The Godfather

The Rock vs. Kurt Angle

Okay...I promised to drop a reply once I got my shit sorted, and here I am. Instead of running through every show, I'll try and condense it all into one post.

For starters, I'm a huge HUGE Foley mark so him being central to the diary for the time being is something that's really gonna keep me coming back and reading more. At first I was a little indifferent to him coming back as a heel, but I've really warmed up to the idea over the past several shows. He and the Rock have an obvious chemistry in the ring, and I'm hoping to see it continue one for quite some time. Speaking of the title, I loved the system you used to whittle down the contenders for the Backlash main event. Although I was surprised to see guys like Show, Jericho, and Tazz go out as early as they did.

The under card is packed at the moment, and you've got infinite possibilities for who to try and push up the card. Austin and Taker's returns will help bolster the main event, and I'm glad to see you're not just going to throw them straight back into the title picture. On Austin, it'll be interesting to see if you go a different route with who ran him over. To say Rikishi being the culprit was a let down would be a huge understatment. This has a lot of potential to be a nice strong feud if the right guy is put behind the driver's seat.

As for the whole DiBiase thing, well I for one like it. I mean sure, in real life he may have already left wrestling but that's half the fun of writing retro diaries. It may take a little time, but I can see him fitting into his role as commissioner eventually.

One of the only things I would change is the colour for heat. On the orangeness skin, it's a little hard to read. Other than that, I like the format you've been using up to this point.

No doubt I'll be back again soon (Y)

Thursday 11th May 2000

Smackdown saw the strangest alliance in the World Wrestling Federation be created and then destroy itself in less than two hours. The Rock opened the show in Jacksonville whipping the crowd into a frenzy and promising that in nine days time he would take half of the WWF Championship from Mankind and make it his own.

That brought Mankind to the stage, who simply described The Rock as a joke. Mankind said that for years he considered him a friend, but only for The Rock’s sake. Mankind knew that The Rock needed his protection to survive in the WWF. The Rock smirked at Mankind’s words but was then thumped from behind as Kurt Angle hit a low-blow on The People’s Champion and then planted him to the mat with the Olympic Slam. The Rock lay out-cold in the centre of the ring as Kurt Angle cheered but by the end of Smackdown, it appeared that the understanding between Mankind and Angle was gone after Angle thumped Mankind with one of the WWF Championships.

The main event match saw The Rock fighting his second Judgment Day warm-up match and really rallied against the Olympic Gold Medallist despite being blindsided at the top of the show. The Rock fought valiantly and managed to pick up the pinfall after a Spinebuster and the People’s Elbow. But as soon as the final bell went the ring filled. Kurt Angle, The Big Show, Triple H and Kane all brawled as Mankind strolled to the stage in happiness. The Rock stalked up the ramp to get to Mankind and almost looked like he would invalidate his WWF Championship by hitting his Co-Champion only for Kurt Angle to bound after The Rock and swing for him, missing and hitting Mankind straight in the face.

In the fight to be named the number one contender for the WWF Championship, The Big Show scored a vital victory over Triple and D-Generation X in a six man tag match. The 500 pound superstar was joined by the shock returning Test and Billy Gunn as the trio combined well to defeat the well oiled machine of D-X. The Big Show then proceeded to chokeslam Triple H at the end of the main event, before trying to chokeslam Kane. Smackdown ended as The Big Show and Kane held each other by the throat, hoping to chokeslam their huge rival.

Chris Benoit made a brief appearance on Smackdown as he stood in the ring and tried to explain what he took to become the Intercontinental Champion. Benoit ran down a few criteria to become the Champion and then decided that Chris Jericho possessed none of those qualities and would never be the Intercontinental Champion again. That brought Chris Jericho to the ring. The two men traded insults as ‘Y2J’ promised to show Benoit that he would be the finest Champion that the Intercontinental Championship would ever know. Benoit sneered at Jericho but then found himself on his back as Jericho rushed The Crippler and proceeded to once again lock in the vicious Walls of Jericho on the Intercontinental Champion.

In the Hardcore Championship match-up, Stevie Richards and Tazz fought in an excellent hardcore match. The two men really showcased the Hardcore division to the fans and put on an excellent match before Tazz ultimately got the victory with a tucked belly-to-belly suplex through a table. Both men shook hands after the victory before being set upon by Bull Buchanan and The Big Boss Man. The corrupt enforcers battered both men with their nightsticks, before leaving the two men down and out, lying around the arena floor.

The tag team division showed no sign of calming down after four teams laid claim to a shot at the belts held by Matt and Jeff Hardy. Edge and Christian repeatedly made “belt” motions during their victory over Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn but after The Hardy Boys hit the ring to exact their revenge on the former Champions, they were set upon by Too Cool, E&C, Malenko and Saturn and the Dudley Boys. All eight men left the Champions down and out before turning on each other and certainly, Ted DiBiase is going to have to do something about.

In the fifth match on Smackdown, Eddie Guerrero came through a defence of his Championship thanks to Chyna. The Ninth Wonder of the World exacted her revenge on The Godfather by costing him his title shot before the three men set to challenge Guerrero at Judgment Day got involved. Rikishi and Val Venis were brutally attacked at the start of the show by Eddie and Essa Rios however, they managed to get their revenge as Val hit both men with his stunning Money Shot.

Thee matches have been announced for Sunday Night HeAT and all are loaded with potential to be an absolute war.

Tazz and Stevie Richards put on a magical match on Smackdown when the pair fought over the Hardcore Championship, even sharing a handshake after the match. The two former ECW alumee showed real respect for one another before being brutally attacked by The Big Boss Man and lackey, Bull Buchanan who have seemingly put their differences behind them. And so we get a tag team match, with the two teams facing off in a match that will be anything but fair.

The other match on the card stems from Smackdown as well. The Godfather was close to winning the European Championship when Chyna stormed to the ring and took the Ho Master out with a vicious chairshot. That really got The Godfather's blood pumping and he immediately demanded someone to take his frustrations out on, on HeAT. Well he got Albert. Something tells me that Albert won't be much of a reciever on the whole "frustration" front and will be looking at the match as a chance to establish himself back in the European Championship division.

And in the final match announced for HeAT, Dean Malenko will battle X-Pac for the Light-Heavyweight Championship. The Degenerate won his shot last week on the first Contender Edition of HeAT and will be looking to upset the Champion in what could be a very enthralling affair.

Plus we will hear from Test who returned on Smackdown to record a pinfall over Triple H... only on WWF's Sunday Night HeAT!!!

Confirmed Matches

Tazz & Stevie Richards vs. The Big Boss Man & Bull Buchanan

The Godfather vs. Albert

Light-Heavyweight Championship: Dean Malenko © vs. X-Pac

Sunday 14th May 2000

Sunday Night HeAT drew to a close by the unlikely image of two men that made their names in the ECW. Former ECW World Champion, Tazz and Stevie Richards stood hand in hand after coming together to defeat The Big Boss Man and his protégé, Bull Buchanan. The WWF Hardcore Champion tagged with Richards after their match on Smackdown was interrupted by the corrupt duo and HeAT was seen as the payback opportunity, payback was certainly delivered as the hardcore stipulation for the match allowed Tazz and Richards to make their opponents truly understand what that means. Bull and the Boss Man were knocked from pillar to post with chair shots, trashcan shots and whips of a belt. Everything they thought they knew was re-written as the pair dominated them and then stood together at the end of HeAT promising to bring a new “reign of extreme” to the World Wrestling Federation.

In the only Championship match on the show, X-Pac left the arena slightly annoyed by the show’s proceedings. While facing off with Dean Malenko for the WWF Light-Heavyweight Championship it seemed as though X-Pac’s innovative mix of high-flying and technical ability may see him through only for Scotty 2 Hotty to cost him the victory. The Too Cool member smashed a chair on Dean Malenko’s head, causing a disqualification by also setting up a Judgment Day match. After the match and having watched proceedings unfold, Ted DiBiase appeared on the WWF screens making sure everyone was aware that it would Dean Malenko versus X-Pac versus Scotty 2 Hotty at Judgment Day for the WWF Light-Heavyweight Championship.

And in the other matches on the card, Crash Holly defeated Funaki and Grand Master Sexay in a crazy, mismatched affair that left everyone guessing. After thumping Funaki with a Hip-Hop Drop it seemed as though Grand Master would take the victory only for Crash to steal in and scoop up a victory; while Albert demolished The Godfather much to the delight of Chyna. The Ninth Wonder of the World watched on as Albert brawled with the Pimp of the WWF before finishing him off with a Football Kick. Chyna then chased off the Ho Train as The Godfather struggled to his feet.

Also on HeAT, Michael Cole held two exclusive interviews with Chris Jericho and the newly reunited duo of Test and Trish Stratus. Cole started by trying to get Jericho to be straight with him on the Intercontinental Championship. Chris explained he was more focused that ever before and promised that in seven days he would crippler “The Crippler” while Test explained to Cole that he was back from injury and at 100%. “The Impact Player” promised that it didn’t matter if it was The Big Show or Funaki, he would use the same irresistible force to ascend the ranks of the WWF starting on RAW is WAR where he promised to exact revenge on D-Generation X for Trish Stratus. Test then proceeded to call out Triple H and Stephanie McMahon to a tag team match, and Test expected to see the happy couple in the ring come Monday night.

-Smackdown drew a 5.39 rating this week, while Thunder scored a 5.09.

-WCW Saturday Night pulled a 1.15 while Sunday Night HeAT continued to impress with 1.84 score for this weekend’s broadcast.

-It seems Albert may have had his WWF career saved by The Big Show. The 7’ monster sees Albert as the man to fill his boots as the next monster of the WWF and wants to work a program with the young athlete. Reportedly, officials simply said they would “look into it” when approached by Paul Wight but wouldn’t commit to anything.

-Tazz and Stevie Richards are not expected to be a constant tag team. Richards is expected to turn on Tazz in the coming months and work a censorship angle that the WWF have been working on for quite some time. The angle will hopefully push Richards into the Intercontinental division.

On RAW is WAR, Mankind will take on his second and last challenge before going to Judgment Day on Sunday. The Co-WWF Champion will go one-on-one with the Big Red Machine, Kane in what could turn out to be the worst kind of preparation for Mankind ahead of his battle with The Rock on this Sunday’s Pay-Per-View.

The People’s Champion will be in attendance on Sunday night, but we are guaranteed he will not be in action. The Great One will most likely use the time to scout his opponent and make sure he is completely ready to become the WWF Champion in his own right at Judgment Day.

However, The Rock will not be the only man watching the main event. Kane’s three opponents for Sunday; The Big Show, Triple H and Kurt Angle are set to battle with the Big Red Machine for the right to named the number one contender to the WWF Championship and no-one will want to let the 7’ Kane get any kind of momentum ahead of Sunday night.

In tag team action, Matt and Jeff Hardy will one again put their belts on the line. The Champions have already made two defences in two weeks and seem good on their promise to be fighting Champions as they accept The Dudley Boys to the ring. Bubba Ray and D-Von haven’t been on the WWF television screens for a couple of weeks, so they will surely come back more focused than ever to reclaim the gold they lost at Wrestlemania.

In a HUGE six man tag match, two matches at Judgment Day will be previewed as the four men in the European Championship match and the two men fighting for the Intercontinental Championship will team together, hoping to make sure of a solid advantage for Sunday. Rikishi will have to team with Val Venis and Chris Jericho as they battle Essa Rios and the Radical duo of Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit. With Guerrero and Benoit having some tag experience, their team will naturally be the favourites, but a team that boasts the 400 pound Rikishi will be tough to beat.

And in the other confirmed match of the night, Billy Gunn, who returned on Smackdown will take on the man that “replaced” him in the New Age Outlaws, X-Pac. The former Degenerate and 1999 King of the Ring will be hoping to exact some more revenge after his six man tag victory on Smackdown.

Plus, Triple and Stephanie McMahon will respond to the challenge of Test and Trish Stratus from Sunday Night HeAT only on WWF’s RAW is WAR!!!

Confirmed Matches

Mankind vs. Kane

Tag Team Championships: The Hardy Boys © vs. The Dudley Boys

Rikishi, Val Venis & Chris Jericho vs. Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit & Essa Rios

Billy Gunn vs. X-Pac

Judgment Day really heated up on RAW is WAR throughout the card as two more matches were announced while rivalries that have been brewing for weeks, stepped up another level of intensity.

In the night’s main event, Mankind showed his hardcore side by just about defeating the Big Red Machine. Early in the match referee Teddy Long took a heavy fall after being squashed by Mankind in the corner and that allowed the Co-WWF Champion to “bend the rules” somewhat using weapons from outside the ring to keep Kane down, but somehow he couldn’t pin him. Well at least until The Big Show and Kurt Angle got involved. The two men that are part of the number one Contendership match at Judgment Day did enough to distract Kane in the end as Mankind locked in the Mandible Claw for the huge victory. Straight after the match, The Big Show and Kurt Angle got into the ring, quickly followed by Triple H but just as the foursome battled it out The Rock hit the ring. The People’s Champion cleaned house, knocking Angle and HHH from the ring before landing The Big Show with a ring-rocking Spinebuster. And just as it appeared he would lash out at Mankind, The Rock stopped and the opponents for Sunday simply stared at each other as the WWF logo appeared in the bottom of the screen.

Triple H had a busy night as he accepted the tag team challenge of Test and Trish Stratus. The Canadian pairing opened the show and Trish immediately called out Stephanie McMahon, the Women’s Champion. Trish informed the WWF fans that with Test back at her side, she had a man she could rely on and therefore wasn’t going to take the abuse she received when she challenged Stephanie for the Women’s Championship. Test then demanded a re-match for “his woman” if they defeated the married couple later in show, but sadly that re-match won’t be coming as Stephanie recorded a second straight pinfall over Trish after D-Generation X used their numbers to their advantage. Test was less than pleased with the result; and in a post-match result he promised to get his revenge on D-Generation X, one by one.

Speaking of D-X, X-Pac pulled off the opening victory of the night as he pinned former member, Billy Gunn. Gunn, who returned on Smackdown looked really focused as he started the match and if not for the appearance of his former tag partner he may have been the victor. Billy was distracted enough by Road Dogg on the apron that it allowed X-Pac to hit his X-Factor for the victory.

In the only Championship match of the night, Matt and Jeff Hardy kept hold of their titles thanks to interference by Edge and Christian. Facing off against the returning Dudley Boys, Matt and Jeff struggled to get going in the early moments; their recent run of title defences obviously the reasoning and it looked as though Bubba Ray and D-Von would regain the Tag Team belts until the former Champions got involved. Edge and Christian were very blatant in their attack on the Hardys, causing the disqualification victory and that brought the Acolyte Protection Agency, Kai En Tai and the Headbangers to the ring as a huge team brawl erupted.

The brawl wasn’t even broken up by referees or officials but instead by the appearance of Ted DiBiase. The Million Dollar Commissioner stopped the tag team brawl and then proceeded to announce a huge WWF Tag Team Championship match at Judgment Day. Ted informed the “fighting champions” that in light of the fact that they represent arguably the most competitive division in the World Wrestling Federation they will be defending their belts against no less than seven teams on Sunday in a tag team gauntlet. Matt and Jeff will stand in the ring and wait for the teams to hit the ring. As teams are defeated, the next team arrive and so on, until all seven are defeated. The Hardys did not look happy at the announcment.

After the first match was made, Ted then decided he may as well kill two birds with one stone, by announcing the first place in the King of the Ring tournament would be up for grabs at Judgment Day. DiBiase said that the King of the Ring Tournament had a special place in his heart, as he was a previous winner and then said that some specially selected men will fight for the first place in the King of the Ring eight.

In the other match on RAW is WAR, Val Venis scored a huge pinfall over the European Champion Eddie Guerrero in a six man tag match that also featured Rikishi, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit and Essa Rios. Prior to the match, Lita wished her man luck with a passionate kiss and that must have spurred Val on as he hit the Money Shot for the victory and a huge momentum boost for Sunday.

Earlier in the show, The Radicals teamed together to take out Chris Jericho. Benoit distracted ‘Y2J’ from the stage as Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn entered the ring through the crowd, taking out the Intercontinental Challenger with a vicious attack until Too Cool chased the pair off, before promising to get some revenge on Smackdown.
