Yeah, it's co-written by Judd Apatow who produced Superbad and wrote Knocked Up. It's nothing like Napolean Dynamite (I hate that movie) so you're in luck. I'd say go see it.

The Elvis part is good too. The "Dark period" montage is hilarious. I don't know the whole movie is really funny, your friend was probably just expecting Superbad 2.

It was your typical Judd Apatow film, so if you thought Anchorman and Talladega Nights and Knocked Up were hilarious, you'll probably laugh at the same jokes this time around.

The Beatles were hilarious, especially Paul Rudd as Lennon. Jack's awful accent was definitely deliberate.

Jack White in his (far too brief) appearance as Elvis was also funny, and the Bob Dylan parody was gold, but the rest of the film was nothing special. I can't imagine what someone who hasn't seen Walk The Line would make of it.
