Favourite Song/s Of The Moment

I'm currently liking:

"Keep Bleeding" by Leona Lewis, which I "discovered" about two days ago, because it reminds me of Marcella Detroit and, by extension, the better Shakespears Sister stuff.

"All I Want For Christmas Is A Dukla Prague Away Kit" by Half Man Half Biscuit, because HMHB are one of the best bands EVAR, and because the lyrics are patently absurd; not in a surrealist way, but more in a "who would think to write this song?" way.

"The Calendar Hung Itself" by Bright Eyes...I've never been a huge fan of Messr Oberst, mostly splitting what limited love I have for him between "First Day Of My Life", "Lover I Don't Have To Love" and "It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends", but I can't believe I neglected this one for so long, it's absolutely fantastic. YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE, MY ONLY SUNSHINE.

"I'm Free From The Chain Gang Now" by Johnny Cash...I've been on an old blues and country kick lately, listening to a lot of Hank Williams, Carter Family, Son House, Leadbelly and Alan Lomax field recordings, and Johnny Cash's more recent stuff has pretty much picked up the tail end of that, and I love "re-discovering" songs off the American Recordings albums that I'd forgotten all about. This one's a keeper.

"Rambling Man" by Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan...as I said, I've been on a big-time country kick, and this is my favourite Hank Williams song...after having fallen in love with The Melvins/Hank Williams III version for a long time, this one is currently my favourite version. Two of the coolest people in music singing one of the best songs ever is always a good thing.

"Economy Parcel Post" by Dokaka, which is just insane Japanese beatboxing and scatting, and just brilliant. Absolutely adore this song right now.

"Mary Mary So Contrary" by Can, because I'm listening to a fuckload of Can lately to get me in the mood for seeing Damo Suzuki live in a couple of weeks.

That's about it for the time being.

"Knights of Cydonia" by Muse

Ever since I heard so many people marking out when it was announced it would make it on Guitar Hero 3, I had to check out what the hype was all about. Now I love it. The video is classic as well. When I finally got my hands on GH3 at a Best Buy demo, I went straight to Knights of Cydonia on Medium. Even though I brutally failed at 60%, I still love the song.
