The Sting

I think this is the first movie I have ever watched in school and thought it was bad ass. It's an old classic starring Robert Redford and Paul Newman, about a bunch of con men teaming up and going for the "big con" against some other guy. It was either watch that, or watch Breakfast at Tiffany's, and more than half the class was like, "We are gonna watch the fucking Sting." I thought it would suck, but it's quite interesting and fun to watch. I barely ever watch old movies, even though my dad always bugs me and tells me to watch them, but I must say this was a fantastic movie, even though we didn't even get to finish the end of it, so I got to watch it some other time when it is on television or something.

The Sting is one of the few classic movies I can watch over and over again and never get bored.

HOWEVER....the sequel stinks on ice and should probably be avoided. The Sting II was made 10 years later, with a new director and cast but the same writer. It has Jackie Gleason in the Paul Newman role, Mac Davis instead of Robert Redford (but I can't remember if its the same character or not), and Oliver Reed as Robert Shaw's character from the first movie. The plot has them rigging a boxing match.

I'd rate the original movie at 4 and a half stars, the sequel at about 1 and 3/4 to 2 stars.

As for awesome Robert Redford movies, I highly recommend The Natural and Brubaker, if you haven't seen either of those.
