I think if they did an anime based on the manga and toned down the incredibly over-the-top things (hi Mitsuko), it would work. Where the manga succeeded was in developing the minor characters like Akamatsu and Hirono and making you actually feel for them, and if done right the anime could be like more of that.

That being said, I'm not sure if I'd actually be interested in viewing Battle Royale for the fourth time in a format that would take up far, far more time than watching the movie and possibly reading either the book or manga.

I'm fully aware of that. Still, making an anime after a live action movie is made seems to run against everything the Japanese entertainment industry stands for.

NANA is another example of a live action film being made before it became an anime.

There is fuck all anime being released here in Australia recently. It's all the poppy girly shit, which teenage boys use as porn since X Rated porn is illegal here.

At least, in a weeks time, they are playing My Neighbour Totoro on a big barge on the foreshore for the International Arts Festival. Such a wonderful movie.

Nah, I heard good things about Geass... still haven't seen it yet though. Still, I'm becoming the biggest Gurren Lagann nerd ever, so I doubt it could possibly top the show for me. I don't doubt it's excellent, but Gurren Lagann's just set the proverbial bar for all animes for me, and that's a bar I doubt will be reached for quite some time to come.

Gurren Lagann is GAINAX. Code Geass is some bizarre CLAMP/Gundam/Deathnote mixture thing. They're not really directly comparable in too many ways. >_>

I dread the Adult Swim dub, of course. As is natural.
