Well you need to get an acapella version of the song you won't to remix. Since it's pretty hard to find (Unless you make your own) acapella versions of obscure rock songs (NO GOLDFRAPP FOR J00, although they're more electronica), you have to do Mainstream pop songs if you're lazy like me. Although I do have a few acapella Beastie Boys songs though

I remember the amount of times I have tried to do remix's but ended up nearly crying over it being hard. Its a bitch when you spend 3 hours on something and then are forced to give up
