Fuck am I excited for this movie. Japanese cinema? Check? The director of two of my favourite Japanese movies? Check? Guns? Check. Swords? Check. Heavily stylized? Check. Spaghetti fucking Western? Check.

Honestly, this looks like it's going to be balls to the wall fun and I can only imagine the violence. I assume it'll be tame in comparison to Audition and Ichi: the Killer, but fuck if it still won't be awesome. It should be very interesting considering this will be in English, too.

Famed Japanese auteur Takashi Miike, who is best known for cult classics such as Audition, Ichi: the Killer, and Children of Lost Souls, brings a fresh new look at the beloved spaghetti Western genre in Sukiyaki Western Django. Two clans, Genji, the white clan led by Yoshitsune, and Heike, the red clan led by Kiyomori, battle for a legendary treasure hidden in a poor mountain town. One day a lone gunman, burdened with deep emotional scars but blessed with incredible shooting skills, drifts into town. Expectations reach a boiling point as everyone wonders which gang the gunman will finally decide to join. Dirty tricks, betrayal, desire, and love collide as the situation erupts into a final, explosive showdown.

I'll watch practically any of Miike's work that I can get my hands on so of course I'll see it. But so far, one of the few clips I've seen of it involved Quentin Tarantino and I, along with many others, maintain that QT needs to get as far away from the front of a camera as possible.

Not too happy with the inclusion of Tarantino, but I am definitely looking forward to the movie.

It's not like Tarantino's gonna be a major character. I can't see him being in the movie for more than like, a half hour at most.

Even if he is a major character, I'll put up with awkward Tarantino for what looks like such a fucking cool movie.

Sorry for the massive bump, but this came out on DVD in November without me even knowing. I found a buttload of copies on eBay, and I imagine if you ask any local video store to order it special for you they'll do so. Also check some smaller, locally-run movie stores that may specialize in carrying foreign movies. Or, eBay.

I have no clue if it's good, but I'm going to expect excellence.

It was okay. I liked the first half but the movie just started to get old after that.

I think the DVD version (at least the one released in the US) isn't the complete movie. Apparently there's an extended cut but I don't know if it has been released or even if it's going to be. I think one of my friends said he got it but I don't know if that meant "rented" or "bought".

90% of Miike's movies are straight-to-DVD bores anyway that only get him coverage cos of the gore factor. He's generally lazy.
