The Mentalist and Criminal Minds are not CSI With....(insert joke here). Both are actually good shows.

Just saying.

I watch both of the shows, but they're pretty much based off of the CSI formula. The Mentalist relies on Patrick Jane solving crimes with his abilities to read people/clues and Criminal Minds solves crimes with an ensemble of members of the BSU using their skills to figure out what the criminal looks or acts like.

One thing that angers me a bit about this announcement is there will be very little change to the late night landscape. If Leno jumped to ABC and Jimmy K. was knocked to a slightly later time to compete with Fallon and Ferguson, It would arguably create a 2 hour ratings war between the networks. Letterman vs Leno has been dull in recent years because Leno started a lead and Letterman has only won on a handful of occasions. Now with Conan coming in, arguably the older demographic may start watching Letterman.

However, it could still be interesting, but it keeps ABC out of the game and CBS had a lesser chance of competing with NBC because CBS isn't changing and if they keep the same ratings and ABC is able to split the ratings with Leno on their network, it could cause CBS to pull ahead and suddenly, everything goes bonkers and the networks start fighting for the ratings.

This move makes sense if you understand the minds that made it. This along with cutting their heads of drama, comedy, marketing, casting (because really, it's been the CASTING that's to blame for the colossal failure of the past two years), the head of the television studio and the EVP of the network really serve no purpose other than to shift the blame from the two places it should land: NBC Universal chair Jeff Zucker and NBC Television chair Ben Silverman. Their abject stupidity over the past two years has scared away proven hitmakers, sullied the network's reputation for quality and pushed the 18-49 ratings down even further. Now they're cutting costs fully realising that the replacement programming will not bring in the same kind of viewers the existing 10pm programming does because, as Zucker says: they're "managing for margins not ratings". None of this will change until Zucker and the golden child are fired.
