EWB's Oscar Awards Nomination Thread

Recommended Posts

Well, it is no secret that here at EWB we do have a lot of movie buffs. For that reason, I thought we could do our own littel version of the Oscars here at EWB. This thread will be the nomination thread, and should last until mid-to late January.

Now, you can nominate any feature film you want in here, so long as it was released in 2008 (January-April included). Also, I ask that you only nominate things that you've seen, not only heard of. Frankly, buzz or not, how can you nominate someone or something that you haven't witnessed?

So anyways, this is how it works. We have the categories, you give your top 5 nominees, in order of 1-5. Nominee 1 being your favorite (worth 5 points) and nominee five being your least favorite of your nominations (worth 1 point). I would like to ask that we have no less than 3 nominations per category, though anything between 3 and 5 is acceptable. For those wondering, Wikipedia has a very complete list of films released in 2008 http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...until=Book+Lady, for those who need a refresher course of what they've seen.

Categories are going to be...

Well there you have it. I look forward to seeing other peoples' picks and favorites as opposed to mine. Frankly, it was a slow movie year for me and most of the ones I've seen have been older released I hadn't had the chance to see before now... Basically my nominations are based on 19 films... Blindness, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Dark Knight, The Eye, Funny Games, The Happening, Made Of Honor, Mirrors, One Missed Call, The Other Boleyn Girl, Prom Night, The Ruins, The Strangers, 10, 000 BC, Untraceable, Vantage Point, Wanted, What Happens In Vegas & You Don’t Mess With The Zohan. I mean not too bad, but some of the ones I haven't had a chance to yet likely (according to the hype) would have been on here...

Go For It!

Heh, I was going to do this too. Except with more categories/categories more interesting than film editing and such. Give it time. Once nominations are out it'll grow.

Or do you mean the race itself? Admittedly it's been a slow year for these movies. Last year I had three anticipated films come out ON THE SAME DAY during December and this year I'm not going nuts on anything other than The Wrestler, which wont be around most people till Jan 6th.

Not just film buffs but I think a few people here actually work in the film business including myself.

It's doesn't always stop the Academy.

Anyways, there are a couple of movies I want to see before making my list.

Will post my list in a few days.
