DS Flash Card question

Recommended Posts

Firstly, does anyone have one?

Secondly, experiences? Are they worth getting? I know that I guess that legally, they aren't exactly kosher, but I also don't really play with the DS often enough to be coughing up £30 a game, especially when a lot of the RPG's they have don't drop in price quickly, or get hard to find after the initial release date.

Apologies in advance if any mods and what not frown upon this, just trying to help out. This type of talk hasn't really caused a problem in the past but it is rare that it comes up.

Anyway, can't say i've ever heard of Fire Card so one could theorise that if it's less popular then you might not have luck getting updates and what not for it. Some quick googling led me to a online store for one and the link to the official site seemed to be a Chinese version of a 404. Plus, general forum posts and what not has it pegged as a clone of another card so that makes me imagine some rip off merchants trying to copy an exisiting card and sell shoddy merchandise. I imagine though that since you've picked this particular brand rather than just saying 'DS Flash Card' in general that you might know someone with one so if their's is OK then fair play.

Like I said, don't have one myself but the general experience is great. For casual, light play you should have no problem. There are certain games that require work arounds but this generally only requires an the use of a cheat code which might require you to update your database. Others require more in depth work but there will be tutorials for it. I've only really come across that once or twice though.

You're right about the price issue with the DS. It doesn't really justify it but the games don't really seem to drop in price the way other games do. Like, you could pick up launch titles for 360 or PS3 for £5-10 but DS games might still cost the £20-25 they cost when they first game out.

Fire Card or Flash Card, I think they are one and the same thing, but it was broached to me as a 'Fire Card'. There just seemed to be several different varieties, and I wouldn't want to fork out money unless I was certain that what I was buying would work first and foremost, and not conk out after a couple of weeks.

I've got one of the TTDS things if it's similar then yes. Very easy to use.

Basically, it allows you to download game files onto a card that you can use with the DS.

And yeah, I think that as long as no links are directly posted in the topic, I think this kinda stuff is ok. If not, apologies.

The most highly rated card seems to be the CycloDS but with any card I think the problem is gonna be finding a reputable place that sells them. There seems to be plenty of sites that do so it's probably worth googling them and seeing if there are any forums anywhere with opinions on their service and what not.

One other thing, not sure if you're aware or not but with most cards you will require a form of memory device on which to store your games. Most take MicroSD or SD. Different cards might only take up to a certain size of cards.

That CycloDS looks good. Might pursue that one, thanks for the help.

However, any other advice on any other alternatives are still welcome.

EDIT: Looking at their website, and considering what you mentioned about memory, I can't seem to work out what the in-built memory for the cards may be.

Amazon got rid of all the flash cart stuff, not too sure when. Sometime between when I got mine last summer and a few months ago when I looked again. I'm not sure on the legallity, I remember a story a few months ago of Police raiding someone who sold R4's.

R4

That is what I bought, and to be honest, it is an amazing little thing. You can obviously download the games using a microsd or sd or whatever, but you can also watch movies, view pictures etc, as well as the ability to upgrade its firmware to add newer features. Highly recommended.

I have an R4 myself but I wouldn't reccomend it at this point. Mine works fine but the people who make the card are long since gone so there is a chance you could get a cheap knockoff instead. You wont get any official firmware updates either.
