So until a year or so ago, my music taste was more or less strictly classic rock. Then I got turned on to the New Pornographers, and they moved me into some other indie stuff.

I still like classic rock - the Beatles, Supertramp, Queen would all be among my top bands - as well as older alternative stuff like R.E.M. and Primus. As for indie, obviously the New Pornos, but a few other bands I really like are Destroyer, Gaslight Anthem (yay EWB!), Dog Day, Human Highway, Sunset Rubdown, Constantines, Animal Collective, AC Newman, Sloan, Joel Plaskett Emergency...

...can anyone make anything out of that mess? What else would you suggest?

You like Sunset Rubdown? You like Wolf Parade Apologies To The Queen Mary! The best Krug album, and probably Handsome Furs. Or Swan Lake, which is the guy from Destroyer and the guy from Sunset Rubdown and some guy from that band I don't really like Frog Eyes or whatever it's called :shifty:.

If you like Animal Collective you might like Panda Bear which is just a dude from Animal Collective doing rad Beach Boys like pop! This is guy from Deerhunter with Panda Bear showing how lovely they are http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QHbOg-Sd1M

Also I think the pop stuff New Pornos do is kinda like Architecture in Helsinki but less weird,

- British Sea Power!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPRdI75XPQE - Phoenix! Check out more of their songs you probably know more or should know more.

If you don't like any fuck you I tried! :shifty:

I'd suggest Sonic Youth, if only because there's a good chance you'll find SOMETHING by that band that you'll adore.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Good The Bad and the Queen, Manic Street Preachers and Rush could also be right up your street.

I'll probably edit this later to include essential albums but this might be enough, it's certainly vague enough to get you to try stuff ¬_¬

You fool. Look at my last.fm profile, Flananananagan! It's musical education!

All of these are sort of stuff that is a lot like stuff you listen to, but there's different dimensions to each group.

I'm stunned if you don't like the Vivian Girls, which is kind of fuzzy garage rock but it's all peppy and happy (for the most part)!

Caribou is all happy electronica (AND CANADIAN!).

Stereolab has not made a blatantly depressing song ever. MOOG SYNTHS! The Bird and the Bee probably also apply to this sound.

Also, being that he's Canadian, he surely has HAD to have heard Rush.

Most of these are pretty well known so chances are you'll already have heard of a fair whack. I felt a bit stupid putting in the likes of the Rolling Stones but Beatles fans quite often seem to overlook them. I did myself until fairly recently. Enjoy! :)

MEG: Already know pretty much anything you'd get from Ringy. :P Can't stand Swan Lake though, it's too obvious that "here's a Dan song, here's a Spencer song, here's a Casey song, etc."

General: Only one I've heard of is Rush but GOOD GOD HOW COULD YOU THINK I DON'T KNOW RUSH?!?...admittedly I mostly only like the singles.

ROC: Later this week, I will spend an entire day going through stuff from your last.fm profile.

metalman: Thanks for the list...already familiar with quite a bit of that (and pretty sure it's only because of me that Gainsbourg was briefly in the EWB mainstream consciousness...), but there's a few there to check out. A lot of it's obvious though...keep in mind that I've listened to the radio regularly since I was like 12, of course I'm going to know the Stones. :P

You might like Visqueen (who will most likely be the band featured in my Song of the Day thing tomorrow beause I saw them live today for the second time and they still rule). They're a Seattle power-pop band and their lead singer has a very Neko Case sound to her (to the point where they played together at Sasquatch a while ago).

These are just a couple random groups I've been interested in. Don't really know where some fall, I suppose those would be indie? but nevertheless, here are some.

Matt & Kim, White Rabbits, Franz Ferdinand, Taking Back Sunday, The bravery, Manchester Orchestra, Cage The Elephant, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Delta Fiasco, Living Things, Phantom Planet, Phoenix, Scenes From A Movie, Valencia, Dear and the Headlights, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, Silversun Pickups, The Sounds, Audrye Sessions, The Strokes, Peter Bjorn and John, and All Time Low.

You've probably heard of most of them, but I figured that it couldn't hurt. :)
