How would giving clubs like Wigan/Hull/Reading/etc take away their ability to compete ?

Look if your talking about flattenning things then where would it stop? 20 teams? 92 teams? Either way you flatten and the stopping point gives you an even bigger drop off than at present. Look at this:

This is what we have at present, I've used 8 teams for the example but essentiall its the same with the 20 EPL teams, by graduating the payment towards the top you see a sliding scale.

Div 1, Team 1 - £40m

Div 1, Team 2 - £30m

Div 1, Team 3 - £24m

Div 1, Team 4 - £19m

Div 1, Team 5 - £14m

Div 1, Team 6 - £12m

Div 1, Team 7 - £11m

Div 1, Team 8 - £10m

Div 2, Team 9 - £5m

Div 2, Team 10 - £5m

Div 2, Team 11 - £5m

etc.

If you flatten that then you get this.

Div 1, Team 1 - £25m

Div 1, Team 2 - £25m

Div 1, Team 3 - £25m

Div 1, Team 4 - £25m

Div 1, Team 5 - £25m

Div 1, Team 6 - £25m

Div 1, Team 7 - £25m

Div 1, Team 8 - £25m

Div 2, Team 9 - £5m

Div 2, Team 10 - £5m

Div 2, Team 11 - £5m

etc.

More competitive at the top but look at the massively increased jump from Div 2 to Div 1? No team outside the flattene bit would benefit at all, they would relatively be much worse off in fact. This WOULD create a closed shop.

Again, that's why I said to take the entire FA Pyramid and restructure it accordingly. I've said it like 3 or 4 times now.

You've only taken one piece of it to work for your example. With a COMPLETE flattening of the system not only would the top tier clubs see a flattened amount, but the lower tier clubs would actually see an increase in this regard. It would make ALL Divisions proportional. At the moment they aren't.

But, just in your example ... the Div2 club is 20m behind the last Div1 club rather than 5m. They're also only 20m behind the first Div1 club, rather than 35m. They get promoted and guess what ? They've got the same shared revenue as the top club in the Division. How is that closed shop ?
