these are always fun. by unlikely pop songs I mean really catchy or poppy songs from really unexpected sources.

One that I think is an excellent example, and indeed the song that gave me the idea for this topic, is "Books About UFOs" by Husker Du (too busy for umlauts >_>) which is so incredibly catchy and tuneful it could have been written by Brian Wilson, yet still all Husker Du.

It's also my favourite Husker Du song cause I love my sugar coated tunes.

So yeah...add your own. Or don't.

Torche's whole 'Meanderthal' album. Some songs less so than others, but really good pop songwriting courses through the whole thing, with a dirty sludgy crust.

I'd say that Electric Six's "Gay Bar" is a somewhat unlikely hit. Or can you count it as a hit?
