MMA Predictions: The EWB Fighting Championships

So, the idea has come to me that to make Japanese card a little bit differnet in scoring (as the Japanese like to be a little bit different anyway). So here's the way it's going to work, and I'll edit it into the first post at a later date.

For Japanese fight cards I want you to choose a "Top 3 picks" from each card, it doesn't matter which order they are, just the 3 you are most certain of. These fights will be subject to a 2x multiplier meaning you get double the score. These three will be marked on your picks like this

Fighter x-KO-2<- Top 3 Pick

thus making it obvious to me and everyone else which they are confident of. Its easy, its simple and anybody can do it... much like Britney Spears :shifty:

No.

A middleweight title fight between Sengoku champion Jorge Santiago (22-8 MMA, 6-1 SRC) and Kazuo Misaki (22-10-2 MMA, 3-2 SRC) – initially expected for this weekend's Sengoku Raiden Championship 13 event – is now targeted for the organization's currently unannounced Sengoku Raiden Championship 14 show.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) first reported the bout in May.

Although initially expected to take place at Sunday's show, it's now likely to headline the Japanese-based Sengoku Raiden Championship 14 event on Aug. 22, a source close to the organization today told MMAjunkie.com.

Sengoku Raiden Championships 13 takes place June 20 at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo. Featherweight champ Masanori Kanehara vs. Marlon Sandro headlines the show.

Santiago and Misaki first fought in January 2009. The fight materialized after Santiago won the 2008 Sengoku middleweight grand prix. He then pushed his win streak to nine fights by scoring a come-from-behind fifth-round submission victory over Misaki. The Japanese fighter refused to tap from the rear-naked choke and went unconscious before the referee halted the fight.

After that title win, Santiago fought highly regarded Polish competitor Mamed Khalidov in a non-title fight. Khalidov extended his undefeated streak to 18 fights and stopped Santiago via first-round TKO at Sengoku Raiden Championships 11 in November.

However, in an immediate rematch in which the belt was up for grabs, Santiago avenged the defeat and stopped Khalidov via unanimous decision at Sengoku Raiden Championships 12 in March.

Santiago next meets Misaski, who's 1-1 since the loss to Santiago. Misaki, who was once ranked as one of the world's top-10 middleweight fighters while competing in PRIDE Fighting Championships, rebounded for a technical-submission win over Kazuhiro Nakamura in August but then suffered a dramatic TKO loss to striker Melvin Manhoef in December.

Yeah, my epic hangover has turned out so epic that until an hour ago I could barely function, your picks have also evened out the numbers so I don't have to hurt my head and predict myself :)

All 3 head to heads will be up in a couple of hours and on Monday/Tuesday I will do a mega results post where I will put results for Strikeforce, TUF finale, WEC and Sengoku :)

Right Strikeforce and M-1 are being quite homosexual and have only released the main card for this event, so those are going to be the four matches that are predicted...

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Fabricio Werdum

Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos vs. Jan Finney (for women's middleweight title)

Cung Le vs. Scott Smith

Pat Healy vs. Josh Thomson

So yeah, 00:00 PST and 08:00 BST is the deadline...

Since the two people I have offered the suprise prize to have been found not wanting the prize (they are MPH and Davidmarrio) I am going to ask a set of 3 questions and if you are the first to answer them right you will win it!

1)Who did Randy Couture face in his first MMA match?

2)Who holds the only official win over Fedor Emelianenko in MMA?

3)What was the name of the 155lb division in the UFC before it was known as the lightweight division?

3)What was the name of the 155lb division in the UFC before it was known as the lightweight division? Bantamweight.

Why wouldn't you just offered it to me. :shifty:

So Powerhart got the suprise Prize, congratulations!

This is a smallish event because of the problems getting the real card in order, no biggie, UFC 116 next weekend should be a barn-burner!

So for some EWB FC news. As you may or may not know I will be going abroad to teach and travel from September to April, and as such will not be able to run this thing from Mid August onwards which means I am targetting WEC 50 as the final event where I will be running this thing.

What this means is that someone from the board could carry this on until i return, they will get all the info and records from me and would be in control.

Or we can call WEC 50 the last event and then you guys betweem you can decide how best to go about organising a different prediction contest. If you are interested in continuing the prediction contest as I run it (Its not too mcuh effort, the spreadsheeting makes it very straightforward) then either PM me or say something in the thread, but I would love for someone to carry this on as I have really enjoyed running it and I would hate to see it go to waste :).

Again its up to you guys, discuss what you would like to happen in the thread.

Good luck everybody, and again, think what you would like to happen I have given you plenty of notice s you can decide what you want to happen with EWB FC when I can no longer run it.
