For a guy who is going to teach English, I don't read a lot. But I'll give this a try, since Skummy is imploring people to do so.

1) 'Sons and Lovers' by DH Lawrence

2) 'Factotum' by Charles Bukowski

3) 'Norwegian Wood' by Murakami

4) 'Catch 22' by Joseph Heller

5) 'The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy' by Douglas Adams

6) 'The Road' by Cormac McCarthy

7) 'One Day' by David Nicholls

8) 'Never Let Me Go' by Kazuo Ishiguro

9) 'Of Mice and Men' by John Steinbeck

10) 'The Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4' by Sue Townsend

Yeah, bit of a hodge podge, and overly reliant on recent books I've read, stuff I've studied, and stuff I'm going to teach.

I also read more non-fiction than fiction, but never choose it for this kinda stuff, for some reason.

1) The Book of Revelation (it is the topic of my PhD, so it's only fair it's fairly high up. If you're going to grapple with any biblical book, you'd do well to approach this with an open mind. But again, I'm biased.)

2) Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie

3) To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

4) Sharp Teeth by... I forgot... but it's an excellent book

5) The Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao

6) The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis

7) The Testament of Gideon Mack by John Robertson

8) The Epic of Gilgamesh (sorry for cluttering this with ancient texts, but it is a phenomenal story)

9) Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susannah Clark

10) Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks.

Okay guys, I'll start compiling this mother at the end of the week, so anyone who hasn't voted yet, get on it. Even if your favourite book is the one you haven't finished colouring in yet.

Okay, so I kind of forgot about this. So I'll give people another week to vote - do it! Next weekend, I will put this thing together, just hoping for a couple more votes.
