    Soap - ABC - 1977-1981

SOAP is the story of two families - The Tate's and The Campbell's. Jessica Tate and Mary Campbell are sisters and the show is basically the story of the two families as a parody on Soap Operas. The show is a comedy that takes different aspects of Soap Operas - Murder, Adultery, Organized Crime, Cults, etc. and puts an outrageous spin and goes way too far with some of it.

The cast is fantastic as it includes: Billy Crystal, Katherine Helmond (Mona on Who's The Boss), Richard Mulligan (Empty Nest), Robert Guillaume, Ted Wass (Blossom's dad) - just to name a few.

The characters that the cast plays are just brilliant. Crystal plays a gay man, Helmond plays the dim-witted Jessica, Mulligan is the wacky Burt, Guillaume is the wisecracking butler, and Wass is 'Tough Guy' early on but later becomes just as wacky as Burt. Other characters are Chuck and Bob - Chuck being Burt's son from a previous marriage and Bob as his dummy as Chuck is a ventriloquist.

  3. The Texans have sent Demeco Ryans to the Eagles for a fourth rounder and they swapped third rounders. I am not sure why a team that does so well would get rid of those pieces that made them so.

I'm ecstatic with this trade. If Ryans is 100% and plays like he did pre-injury, it's a steal for the Eagles. And if not, he's all ready a tremendous upgrade on what we had prior. Plus, he's signed through 2015, with only this year guaranteed. Good move in my mind.

  4. Apparently not "Very Close" anymore. Now officially done:

Bills, Mario Williams agree to deal

The Buffalo Bills have agreed to a deal with defensive end Mario Williams, a source told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

A source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Williams agreed to a six-year contract. Financial terms of the deal weren't immediately known.

The team has called a 1:30 p.m. ET news conference.

  5. Pretty much anyone out of Cranston, Lewis, or Buscemi winning would be awesome. I bet Grammer -- FUCK.

I have to keep reminding myself these awards are the jokey fake ones for Hey, It'd Be Fun to GIve This Person an Award so I don't get mad.

Really? I liked Grammer on Boss.

  6. Is anyone watching this but me and is anyone watching it for any reason to watch the awkward silences after Ricky Gervais says mean (but probably obvious) things?

I have it on as background noise, but only because of Gervais. Is Laura Dern's show any good? I've never heard of/seen it.

  7. Caught up... some thoughts:

    Bringing up Buster

    • "And then there's a kiss, right?" - Hahaha, oh George Michael you poor kid
    • "You've got 3 days." "Hey, if I can't find a horny immigrant by then, I don't deserve to stay here." Hahaha, it gets me every time.

      Key Decisions
      • Ahh, the staircar. "Watch for hop ons, you're gonna get some hop ons"
      • "You call yourself an environmentalist? Why don't you go club some beavers." Lindsay finally gets me to laugh this season
      • Lucille II!

        Charity Drive

        • Buster and Lucille II, such a cute couple
        • Bananagrabber - should have kept the animation rights

        Visiting Ours

        [*]The cutoffs!!

[*]Hahahaha, young George Michael dressed as the Tin Man watching OZ.

And I will second that. Watching the last batch of episodes, I want a frozen banana...

  8. So now that a high profile team like the Steelers lost because of retarded OT rules you think we'll finally get decent OT rule changes this offseason?

Don't think so lint, since the Broncos started with the ball and scored, I don't think it will cause a change. It ended up playing out just like the Sudden Death rules. Now, had the Steelers gotten the ball, marched down the field and kicked a FG, only to have Tebow throw a TD like that to Thomas, THEN there might be an issue.

  9. Not entirely related to the first two episodes, but I've been wondering something about George Sr.'s character.

With Lucille, it's pretty obvious that she'll do anything to manipulate anybody (except George and Oscar) to get what she wants. Even when she's doing a motherly favour for her kids, there seems to be an undercurrent of "I'm only doing this because then they'll owe me a big one".

Is George the same way? Sometimes you get the feeling he has to be, but other times he shows a softer and more tender side (especially with Michael) that's convincing enough it makes me wonder if it's really legit. What do the rest of you think?

I think, generally, George Sr. is too inept to be manipulative, and when he is, it's more out of a misguided morality than anything else - he wants to do the best for the company, and for his family, even if it involves lying and doing horrible things. So it's a little bit of both.

Obviously, there's the possibility that the softer, tender side is just another way of manipulating people - and that could well be true - but I think, especially in later seasons, there's definitely a change in the writing to make George more of a bumbling fool.

Yes. In the early episodes, he is clearly manipulating things (I.E. 'The Flamer' taking out the storage spot), but towards the later episodes he is softer.

  10. It's weird re-watching the pilot after all this time. It's amazing how young George Michael is. And Tobias. Tobias is so fantastic.

As for Top Banana - George Sr. is always great in his prison scenes (NO TOUCHING). I love awkward George Michael and the George Michael/Maeby dynamic always pays off for laughs (I want you to stay on top of her, don't be afraid to ride her. HARD.)

And as mentioned before, re-watching it is interesting the things you don't notice at first that are part of the later episodes.

I dunno how much of a spoiler it is, but for instance in the two shower scenes with Tobias in Top Banana he's in his cut-off jeans. And it hasn't been mentioned yet about his being a never nude. I never noticed it until I just re-watched.

  11. I am thrilled The League made it this high. It has been more consistently funny than Always Sunny this season, in my opinion. I just love the dynamic between the cast and how outrageous some of the stuff is. I'm a huge fan of the show. When it first started I was like 'Why do I want to watch a show about fantasy football', but it's just become so much more than that, and is one of the best things on right now comedy wise.

And The Office being this high disappoints me. It has not been very good lately, save Micheal's Goodbye and this past Christmas episode.

As for the other 3, I don't watch any of them so... meh.
