  1. Doesnt mean anything yet but it does seem like the US is atleast getting more chances down at their end so far but if they dont amount to anything then it is all for naught.

Damn Convey had a chance there but hit it high.

  2. Well I would have to say that altough they havent showed it yet this team is one of the better that we have had, the only thing is that they are still pretty young and inexperinced so that kinda goes against them. Lots of the guys on the team or on the younger team(U-21) right now, 4 years from now could be very good players such as Eddie Johnson, Freddy Adu among other players will hopefully make the team alot better then what it is now.

Also has anyone heard the line up yet? From what I have heard Johnson isnt starting again, and after how he played last game I thought that there would be a pretty good chance he started.

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger could be out of the hospital in a few days and appears likely to play this season after a motorcycle accident in which his helmetless head shattered a car windshield.

    Roethlisberger's injuries

Injuries suffered by Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, according to Dr. Larry M. Jones, chief of trauma at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh:

    • fractures to his upper and lower jaws

    • mild concussion

    • fractured nose

    • fractured facial bones

    • multiple head lacerations

    • multiple abrasions and contusions

    • lost two teeth

    • chipped several teeth

    • no evidence of major structural damage to knees

    • CT scan of brain showed no injury

The Steelers' Super Bowl-winning quarterback was upgraded to fair condition at Mercy Hospital on Tuesday, a day after the scary accident at a busy Pittsburgh intersection left him and his team shaken.

Despite being tossed high into the air after his made-for-speed motorcycle rammed into a car, causing him to smack his head on the car's windshield, Roethlisberger escaped career-threatening injuries.

Doctors did not discuss Roethlisberger's condition in detail, at the request of his family, but the quarterback's only major injuries were to his face: a broken upper and lower jaw, a loss of two teeth, a broken nose, broken facial bones and various cuts and bruises.

Jaw injuries can vary greatly in nature and, because of the rather limited protection provided by a football helmet, have the potential to sideline a player for a lengthy period. But the surgeons who operated on Roethlisberger for seven hours Monday said all of his fractures were successfully repaired.

If that is the case, then Roethlisberger might miss part or most of training camp but could be ready for the Sept. 7 opener against Miami. For the Steelers, who would otherwise go into the season with backup Charlie Batch and rookie Omar Jacobs at quarterback, that is the best possible scenario after an accident that left huge splotches of Roethlisberger's dried blood on a city street.

Dr. Larry Jones, the chief of Mercy Hospital's trauma unit, said Roethlisberger's brain was functioning normally, although the quarterback has a concussion

"He is awake, alert, oriented and is resting with his family by his side," Jones said during a news briefing, which reporters were not allowed to ask questions.

Roethlisberger, 24, the youngest quarterback to win a Super Bowl, was initially listed in serious but stable condition after the accident.

Considering that Roethlisberger wasn't wearing a helmet while riding his 2005 Suzuki Hayabusa, a model that weighs less than 600 pounds but can easily reach 200 miles per hour in a modified state, the Steelers realize how much worse the accident could have been.

Coach Bill Cowher has said nothing publicly since making a hasty return to Pittsburgh from a North Carolina vacation on Monday night, and it is unlikely any team official will comment about Roethlisberger's football future until he is out of the hospital. According to Jones, Roethlisberger could be released in three to five days.

In an additional development, KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh reported Roethlisberger does not have a valid Pennsylvania motorcycle license and that his temporary permit expired in March, though he does have a valid automobile driver's license. The Pennsylvania Department of Motor Vehicles declined to comment on the report.

Nobody has been cited in the crash and police will not release information until an accident reconstruction is complete, Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Tammy Ewin said Tuesday.

Roethlisberger's accident set off debate around the NFL whether teams should take additional contractual safeguards to prevent their key players from participating in hazardous behavior.

A standard NFL player's contract prohibits any offseason activity that can be harmful, but not all players have clauses for activities such as motorcycle riding, all-terrain vehicle riding and skydiving. Roethlisberger's contract apparently did not, probably because the Steelers had no indication he indulged in motorcycle riding before signing him in 2004.

"Maybe the first persons it'll hit is all the quarterbacks," NFL Player Association president Troy Vincent of the Buffalo Bills said Tuesday. "Now all the QB contracts may have something in them and then it might start tapering into the wideouts and into the running backs, generally your high-priced guys."

Vincent said he has ridden motorcycles, but never without a helmet.

In May 2005, Cowher warned Roethlisberger about his riding habits after Cleveland tight end Kellen Winslow was injured in a motorcycle accident. Winslow tore knee ligaments and was lost for the season.

"I wish all our players liked board games or low-risk hobbies," Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage said Tuesday. "Unfortunately, that's part of the reason that makes these guys professional athletes. They have a little bit of an edge to want to do more, seek more. Where's the line? I don't know that."

  4. I am not sure why he didnt start, he may not have been able to score in the last couple of US send off matches but it looked like he was starting to get things turned around after a minor foot injury that he had. Before that foot injury and in the first 8 games he played in for the US he had 8 goals I think it was so he definatly can be a threat. I was kinda surprised when the game started and he wasnt out there next to McBride so the only one that really knows why Johnson didnt start is Arena.

  5. I think most of us hoped that we would atleast pull out the draw in that game since it would have keep us in line to atleast challange to advance to the next round. Now we definatly have to get atleast a draw against Italy and win against Ghana to likely have a chance of advancing. Arena definatly needs to change some guys in the lineup and hopefully he puts Eddie Johnson in at the beginning or things will look pretty grim.

  6. I am not going to go to Dukes extreme but he is right, even if the US does come out and lets say win this 3-0, so they are on the other side of things. There would still be tons of doubters out there saying that they would still be lucky to get to the next round, it may not be people on this board but others that I know would have said that.

  7. Adu went to camp with the team in January but he didnt make the final team, and since he wasnt even playing all the time with his club team it was kind of expected. This was a very dissapointing game, I knew the Czechs were a better team I just expected the US to show more effort and the only one that really gave us any chances was Eddie Johnson in the 2nd half and I hope Arenas see's this and starts him next game.

  8. I really cant wait for this game to see who we can compete with the Czechs. I like the midfield group that they are playing with since Convey has been playing well in the past couple matches. If the US is looking for a goal at halftime they will probably throw another forward up top in Eddie Johnson and move back to a 4-4-2, but that is just my opinion. I also remember back to the last Mexico game when I think it was Onyewu that tottaly bossed Borgetti around and shut him down, I hope that he can do that again today against Koller.

  9. I cant wait till monday when the us faces the Cxechs beause that should the game that decides ho wt the us will likely perform for mos of the tournament cause it is likely the way they will perform for most of the tournament. If theny when then I think that they can possibley when the group.

  10. Is there any way England can play the USA in the World Cup? We never play them in major competition and they need showing how good European football actually is rather than them getting to being ranked 4th in the World by beating Mexico, Canada and Venezuela every now and again.
  11. I looking forward to seeing how the US does this year, they have a ways to grow but I am hoping that they can make it out of group stages again this year and anything after that is going to be tough espesially finishing secound in the group would likely draw Brazil in the next round. The warm up games to the WC for them were nothing special so I am hoping that they were just resting rather then just not performing well.

  12. I am not going to take anything away from the Tigers cause they are definatly playing good baseball right now and thier record shows that, if they are still contending after the all star break then I would say that they are contenders for the playoffs. It has helped them that Cleveland and Minnesota havent been playing that well this month either which the Tigers have taken advantage of. Now atleast it looks like the Indians have turned the corner and are back to the form they had in April and will hopefully play atleast half as well down the strech as the did when they went on a mean streak last year. Minnesota is more of a question mark, there pitching has really showed up much this year and that is what they were really counting on so we will see if they are able to turn it around or not. All I know for sure is that come September the AL Central will be very competive between whomever is near the top.

  13. I had to work from 3-10 but I was able to sneak back to the break room for alot of the game so I was able to see the Cavs game. Lebron really took over the game, he scored some early and then when he started getting double teamed he found the open man and those guys were hitting most of there shots. If the bench guys play as well for us as they did tonight along with the other role players then I would be surprised to see the series go past 5 games.
