  1. Yes, but you have to take into consideration that in games Turner has had to deal with the box being stacked against him and such. While I believe Matt Ryan has been phenomenal and will continue to develop and prosper as a quarterback, a fair bit of his success can be attributed to Michael Turner opening up the passing game and giving Ryan the option to hit Roddy White on the playaction, something we've seen produce touchdowns time and time again this year.
  2. Most definitely not. Matt Ryan has been spectacular as a rookie and played well, but you have to give Michael Turner a plethora of credit for opening up Ryan's passing game. Michael Turner, to me, has been much more valuable to Atlanta than Matt Ryan.
  3. That just seems stupid to me. Kid's got some skill and is going to be the starting QB next year. Now instead, he'll be sitting out. Horrible idea by Devlin.
  4. While I agree if internationals flood the MLS then the focus of the American player goes down, but on the flip side, apart from having more talent in the league, the more development the American players can have. If they can bring in enough international talents to help develop the players while keeping the ratio balanced, then I can see it being successful. The American soccer players are not as skilled as the premier soccer nations. When we played Spain and England, we were outclassed on every level. We need the younger MLS players to get tutelage from Beckham, Blanco, Schletteo, and other international players with more skill and knowledge of the game, while players overseas (Dempsey, Guzan, Bradley, Altidore, Adu, Edu, etc.) can learn from the vast amount of skilled and experienced players there. The salary cap, I agree, has been vital to keeping MLS afloat in its early stages. But as the league grows more profitable and successful, lesser restrictions need to be put in order. Before this can happen though, all the teams need to have private, financially fit owners. Right now, I believe MLS still owns 2 of the active teams (no clue which two, can't remember at all), but once those 2 teams have owners that have some money to them, then, lesser restrictions so there is more of an equal playing field. The thing I still think MLS needs the most is better TV coverage. I know they get a guaranteed Thursday night game on ESPN 2 and a Saturday night game on Fox Soccer Channel. They might have a Saturday or Sunday game on ESPN2, but I'm not sure. However, FSC is only on certain satelite/dish deals, so that isn't easily and openly accessible to people; not a lot of viewers there. ESPN2 gives them access, but not enough. Apart from Thursday, they need to push to get a guaranteed timeslot for Saturday (mid-afternoon or early evening) and Sunday (Sunday early-afternoon). More coverage, more revenue, more profits, more prestige. MLS is finally getting paid for coverage instead of having to pay for their games, which is awesome (just ask Paul Heyman). However, despite it being a monumental step, it's only the first.
  5. Bradley lit it up last year at Heerenveen, and while the the Netherlands League isn't an elite league, it is respectable. He's only 21 and does have some talent, to be fair. For the MLS, the first thing they need to do is get rid of the tight restrictions on the salary cap. That is a terrible idea, in my opinion. It's not bad to have a salary cap, but theirs is too strict. Football is a business, and if players can't get decent wages, they won't want to come to America to play. Also, they should not put a limit on the amount of international players that a team can have. That's a terrible idea to have. It restricts non-Americans from coming into the MLS, and it prevents the league from getting more mainstream and worldwide exposure. The designated player is a good idea and a step in the right direction, as has been said, but will eventually have to be done away with in time once more talented stars want to come. Also, they need to get a better TV deal. They get, what, one game a week on ESPN2? Not very good for mainstream viewership, if you ask me.
  6. That may be a good thing for the college kids, depending on how you look at it. The Lions, since this is the team we're talking about, has a host of players who already "made it" to the big league, are getting comfortable contracts, etc. The college kids are there on scholarships, playing for a school's pride and tradition, and the chance to get to the NFL. The college team would have more passion, more fight in them than a lowly team like the Lions. You don't have to be the best team to win a football game, and sure, talent wise, the Lions probably have better overall talent than Texas, Oklahoma, or Florida. But those 3 teams have more heart and team chemistry than a team like Detroit. That could easily help them on their way to victory. Also, the Lions... can't play defense well to save their lives. Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy would be able to rip that secondary apart, imo.
  7. The Eagles have been absolutely dominating the Giants all day, and yet, I sadly doubt they're going to end up winning. McNabb has been pretty good all day, especially since he's without his top 2 wide receivers, again; Westbrook has been a work horse today and is playing great. The offensive line, however, is doing excellent. No sacks given up, and blocking well. The defense, again, excellent. They've shut Manning down, and are doign enough to stop the run. And of course, the beloved special teams. Akers can hit a 51 yard field goal, but can't hit two easy field goals. ...Oh shit, and just like that, 17-7! McNabb pulls a play out of his ass, and Westbrook burns his man. Whew.
  8. Florida's up 11 with under 3 minutes to go, and it looks like they're heading to the National Title. You gotta love Tebow for the inspirational effect he has on his team, and he has played a damn great game, but my God am I sick of these CBS announcers jerking off to him. Tebow is an excellent quarterback, and the leader of the team, but he has a great cast around him. He's made some excellent throws today (see that last drive on the fade to Murphy), but his guys have played wonderful (see Hernandez's leaping catch on the next play and subsuqeuently holding onto the ball while taking a good hit, and Nelson's catch for the first TD).
  9. How can you even mention ugly footballers from Argentina and not mention Maschereno? He looks like the spawn of an orge and a goat.
  10. Even when healthy, Gabbidon isn't of value. Collins and Davenport both would be given playing time before Gabbidon. Neill isn't a bad back, but he's too expensive and Zola doesn't seem to want him, dropping him out of the squad even when healthy. So long as you keep Noble and Bowyer, Mullins is exendable, although it could be debated which man is of more value, Bowyer or Mullins. As for Cole, I just think he's a waste. He's so frustrating to watch, and just horrid. I'd rather see Freddie Sears get playing time than Cole. If Zola is going to sign Di Michele and Tristan, he should use them for now and sent Cole packing. You are right about Ashton; he's too injury prone. However, I love him and he's solid when he's fit. I have a soft spot for him thanks to FIFA
  11. I am definitely fearing this January for West Ham. I'm not sure if the financial situation has improved at all since the last month or so, but I highly doubt it. I know Rob Green went to the owner to plead with him not to sell a bunch of the players & keep the team together, but I can definitely see it happening. Green, Upson, Parker, Bellamy, and Ashton are 5 players I could all see leaving either in January or the summer. And if that happens, Championship here we come. What we need to do is trim the fat like Hayden Mullins, Gabbidon, Boa Morte, Carlton Cole, and Lucas Neill. Will any of that happen? I highly doubt it.
  12. I don't what team he goes too, so long as Podolsi comes to England, I'll be happy. I think he's a great player and has been shafted at Bayern. I just want to see him in the EPL and in a regular starting role.
  13. While most teams rank them #1 in the power rankings, read their actual columns. If you ever read a NFL column at sportsline, the Titans are constantly labeled as an unproven team, and the Giants are the best team in the NFL; hell, one guy just wrote that the Titans would lose 30-10 to the Giants on a neutral field. Fact is, the Titans don't get their due, and people fail to see that their style is not to blow teams out. It's a sound defensive effort, solid special teams play, and mistake free offense that wins them game. That is not a formula for a high-scoring team. Also, what are people's thoughts on Herm Edwards' call to go for 2 against the Chargers? I've seen it both praised and brutally criticised by the media, but I think it was the right call. You're 1-7, and if the Chargers get the ball first in OT, you're probably going to lose the game. And finally, it is time for Andy Reid to be fired. His playcalling and decision making is horrific. Last night as the second game he cost the Eagles by trying to run the football instead of putting it in McNabb's hands with the game on the line. He blew the Bears game, and when the Eagles had a chance to drive to victory, Reid killed them. He had a great run, but he has slipped up so much in recent years that he needs to go.
  14. I am truly hating Zola's appointment as manager. I think we're 2-1-5 since he took over, and the players look so unmotivated on the pitch. They looked and played a lot better under Curbs, in my opinion. Against his pushing for Tristan as well; wasted money as there's no need for another striker, especially one who is already 32. Add on that his 4-3-3 is failing miserably, and meh, we're falling down the shitter.
  15. Dubb Spoiler: Click here to viewI believe we are just to assume that The Company found a way to do so (or Parkman did himself) after the Company sedated him and tagged him back in S2. We know that he was in Level 5 before the mass escape, so uh... yeah. That's all I got for it.
  16. So can anyone update me on the West Ham situation? I know the owner lost somewhere along the lines of potentially 230 million pounds from Iceland's 2nd bank getting taken over by the government and his ensuing sack, but what about the Tevez ordeal with Sheffielf United, and the chances of the club going into administration? Is the club definitely for sale? I'm having a hard time getting a clear picture of what's going on, so I figure the boys who know the most about footy and have more coverage of it, can let me know what's going on. I really hope that the club gets sold, only because the owner we have now has a name that's impossible to spell... and he's a right douche.
  17. Spoiler: Click here to viewHowever, Angela already stated her power is that she can see the future through her dreams. I can't see a connection between those two powers, or how an evolution of her power could lead to that. I hope she isn't actually his mum. Otherwise, it'd be silly to the level of a soap opera.
  18. Spoiler: Click here to viewI saw A LOT of awesomeness last night, although I do have some storylines that I'm not too fond of. For the positives, I do like seeing Future Scar-Peter back in the Heroesverse. That 5 Years Gone episode was bad ass on so many levels, so yeah, him back = mega ratings. Plus, he makes Present Peter look the pussy he truly is. Oh, and Sylar has been boss so far too. After meeting Zachary Quinto back in March, I became that much more a fan of him, especially since he openly blasted his character's storyline in Generations. I am loving his storyline this season, although him being the son of Angela Petrelli... it just seems lame and totally unneeded. Seems like it was done more for shock value than anything else. I love the Nathan/Linderman storyline too. When Linderman showed up out of nowhere, I was totally confused, although it was revealed he's just a figment of Nathan's imagination. What pops up into my mind now, is how was Nathan actually saved, and if Linderman is appearing to Nathan as a ghost/figment of his imagination, or if Linderman's appearance is Candice's power being used by Future Peter or someone else. Kristen Belle needs to gain regular status too. Elle's character & power is so excellent, and Belle does the role magnificently. The "formula" storyline seems totally gay. A formula that will destroy the world? No, not buying it. Right now, I don't care what the formula means or is about, I just think it's totally lame. It comes off as far too simplistic and childish. I hope the writers make this storyline better than what it started off as. I'm intrigued by Claire's storyline of immortality and simply not feeling anything. It has promise, but so far, Claire comes across as far too whiny. It gets old, repetitive, and obnoxious. However, her mom (Melanie? I forget her name now) being back was surprising and nice to see. Mohinder's storyline with the ability to create powers is really intriguing in theory, but not executed well so far. Seeing Ando have a power in the future was awesome, but with Mohinder, just no. As said above, he reminded me of Peter Parker under the symbiote of the black suit in Spiderman 3. Just don't go there, Kring, just don't. However, if you let that get out - regular people being able to have powers - I think it kills the entire angle of our Heroes being extraordinary. It essentially kills the show, in my eyes. That is not something that can be let out. Oh, and another intrirguing storyline so far is Tracy Strauss, only if she is Nikki, which I think we all assume she is. I don't know if she is or not, since I've stayed away from spoilers. However, if she is Nikki, I love it just because it's another personality having a different power than what Nikki has. If her different personalities could have different powers, then that'd be pretty nifty.

    Chuck

Yes, new episodes start the 29th. Heroes gets 3 hours on the 22nd, so no Chuck on the opening week. I do believe that a central storyline this year will be NSA going after Chuck, as I think either a trailer for the new season or one of the last episodes said that they had a new intersect, so it's time to get rid of Chuck Bartowski. However, I could be wrong.

    Chuck

So yeah, is anyone else a fan of this show? Like the subtitle says, I would always catch the last 5 to 10 minutes of each episode because Heroes came on after it, and it always seemed like a good show. I didn't get into it until after the new episode stopped airing, but I read the recaps and watched several of the episodes, and well, I think the show is amazing. The acting is solid, the writing is hilarious, and Agent Sarah Walker is friggin' hot. So yeah, and Chuck fans and up for Chuck discussions?
  21. Neill can play left back, as can Spector. And if we do sign Ferreria as the rumor says from a couple pages ago, then Neill would need to switch to left back anyways.
  22. Although Bellamy is injury prone as of late and will probably be a non-factor for West Ham this year, I don't want to see him go, in hopes that he actually will produce for us. Apart from Dean Ashton, we have no decent striker, so we kind of need Bellamy (when healthy). However, West Ham are cheap bastards, so they'll probably sell him to Man City if they make a bid.
  23. Now I know that's probably senseless optimism but I've always grouped West Ham with Middlesbrough and more recently Newcastle as teams who are pretty much immovable in the premiership. Neither of the three are ever going to win the league and they aren't gonna get relegated anytime soon. They're kinda in limbo as far as the EPL stands and usually you see the three end up 11th,12th and 13th retrospectively. Just not 10th And DEFINATELY not 6th It is senseless optimism, but hey, I can dream And of course, the other team I do support, is in that middle of the road tier as well, Newcastle. Man U just needs to up and get rid of Ronaldo alredy. That way I can finally support a big team
  24. You bite your tongue! West Ham is not being relegated this year, only because I would cry otherwise. West Ham did incredibly well (for their standards) with Bellamy, Parker, and Dyer out for most of the season. If West Ham can actually *gasp* stay healthy, they'll make another top half finish, but hopefully in the 6-8 range instead. Man U (if Ronaldo does stay.... you never know with that cunt) will probably win another Premier title, although I'd like to see Arsenal or Liverpool win it this year, just for something new again. However, it will probably be Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, and then Liverpool. Teams to get relegated... Stoke, Fulham, and either Bolton or Hull.
  25. Sky Sports Looks like Ronaldo may be heading to Real Madrid after all...
