  1. 21. Michel François Platini

    platini2.jpg

    Country of Origin France

    Teams AS Nancy, Saint-Étienne, Juventus

    Style Captain Dribble

    Description

Platini was always viewed as a big talent but a failed medical test at his favorite team FC Metz prohibited young Platini from ever going there. Instead he started his career at AS Nancy were struggle against relegation was normal. After seven years Platini was brought into Saint-Étienne who were looking to extend their big successes of the early 70's. This didn't work out completely and Platini was transferred to Italian side Juventus. After a rather bad start at the team, the media was all over Platini putting him down whenever they could, a change in tactics suggested by Platini and teammate Boniek caused Juventus to play supurb and in five seasons Platini and Juventus won 8 trophies including the Italian League and the European Cup.

Platini was a tactician, he absorbed the game and read it like no other. Combine that with an excellent dribble, the finishing of a great striker(scoring 312 goals in 580 games) and free kicks out of this world (and into the goal) and you can understand why Platini was feared by all opposition.

And did I mention he became European Champion with France in 1984, and that that could be largely contributed to him being top scorer with 9 goals? I did now!

    Video

Fact When he was young, Platini was believed to have serious heart problems and that he could never play football professionally.

    20. Gianfranco Zola

    zolaDM2506_468x448.jpg

    Country of Origin Italy

Teams Nuorense, Torres, Napoli, Parma, Chelsea, Cagliari

    Style Technical Hitman

    Description

Zola's big breaktrough came when he went to play at Maradona's Napoli, sweeping the title and becoming Maradona's protogé. It wasn't long before the young player from Sardinia attracted the attention of other big European squads. but Zola chose to go to Parma where he won the UEFA Cup in 1995. In 1996 Zola, already 30, made a move to Chelsea where he would shine like never before. Chelsea wasn't the filthy rich club it is today but the team that played during the seasons Zola was there is still amongst the fan's all time top favorites. Zola was a key player with his technique and ability to direct the play. He was a fan favorite and an Icon for the club.

Video Is it Maradona? No! Is it Ben Stiller? No! It's Gianfranco Zola!

Fact He has been voted Chelsea's best player of all time!

  2. Yay, I got it, didn't pre-ordered it so the first store I walked into I was about 10 seconds to late as they only had one copy and the guy in front of me bought it, but I went to another store and they loaded up on it. Almost everybody in line had a copy in his hand.

Have to go to school in a couple of hours but after that I got a holiday until Monday so I can play non-stop if I want :D

The game looks great and the amount of little details stuffed in it is amazing. Flies hovering over garbage bags, newspapers flying around and stuff like that. Now I'm gonna play online for a while see how that works.

  3. 23. Paul John Gascoigne

    gazza_2.jpg

    Country of Origin England

Teams Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspurs, Lazio Roma, Glasgow Rangers, Middlesbrough, Everton, Burnley, Gansu Tianma, Boston United

    Style Brick Sniper Rifle Clown

    Description

I think Paul Gascoigne resembles what most non British people picture when they think of a typical Englishman. This guy looks like he sits in the pub from sun rise till sundown and if he didn't became a professional footballer he probably would've. The only difference is that Gazza was blessed with sensational skills. For a man of his posture he showed incredible technique and flair, becoming an instant fan favorite whatever team he played for.

Suprisingly, Gascoigne never won the English national championship in his career. The only two national titles he picked up were the Scottish national championships in 1996 and 1997 during his time with the Rangers. Besides that he won the 1996 Scottish Cup, the 1997 Scottish League Cup with Rangers and the FA Cup with Spurs in 1991.

Not to take anything away from the Scottish League, but despite the lack of any real big success in his career, Gazzamania was running wild during the early nineties, Gazza even made #2 in the UK Top 40 with the song Fog on the Tyne. Gascoigne was a man of the people, someone you could relate to. Take away the social problems surrounding him and you'd end up with a enormous talent and a heart of gold.

    Video

Fact In 2004 Gascoigne announced that he would liked to be referred of as G8 to cement his new TV persona

    22. Kevin Beattie

    beattie_kevin_0001.jpg

    Country of Origin England

Teams Ipswich Town, Colchester United, Middlesbrough, Sandvikens IF

    Style Englandicana

    Description

I'll be honest, I don't know much about this guy. I'm sure he rwached a James Dean like status in Brittain but outside of the island he is never regarded as one of the best players ever. From what I hear he could've been a household name worldwide but like so many, injuries made him retire from professional at the age of 28 . His best days were at Ipswich where he won the UEFA Cup in 1981. Despite playing a huge part in getting Ipswich to the finals, Beattie never got a winners medal. Luckily some people still have a sense of cult and it has been announced Beattie will receive his medal this year.

And when Sir Bobby Robson calls you the best English born player he has ever seen, you know you're not just some guy who used to kick a ball around!

    Video

Fact Despite being an awesome defender, Beattie only played 9 caps for England

  4. Well I don't know when exactly but about 10 years ago I was at a Ajax - Willem II game and Ajax were just champions the week before but they played an away game so after the match all sorts of celebrations erupted, that was really fun.

Oh and I went to Spain - Norway on Euro 2008 which was a dreadful match but still special since it was a European Championship!

  5. No I have a point system, if a player gets voted #1 once and another gets voted #10 twice the one who got voted #1 once will end up higher on the list.

Hopefully a possible future list will have some more votes so it gets more reliable. For now I'm just having fun with what I got.

  6. So without further delay, here is the list starting with the last two in the list:

    25. Ronaldo de Assis Moreira AKA Ronaldinho

    nike-ronaldinho.jpg

    Country of Origin Brazil

    Teams Gremio, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona

Style Antelope crossed with a seal, mothered by a juggler.

    Description

Like so many young Brasilian footballers, Ronaldinho started his career playing on the beach. This combined with a love of futsal made Ronladinho into the technical master that he is today.

At the age of 21, Ronaldinho made the move to Europe, after several bids from English Premier League sides being rejected by his club Gremio, Paris SG managed to sign the little Ronaldo (what Ronaldinho means).

Ronaldinho has always been acknowledged for his talent but after the 2002 World Cup his market value sky rocketed and PAris SG wasn't able to hold on to him. Ronaldinho signed with Barcelona and lead them to victory in the 2006 Champions League.

As well as being incredible footballers, Brazilian players are also known to, shall we say, live their life to the fullest and Ronaldinho is no exception. Criticism is rising as people close to Ronaldinho reveal he much rather parties all night then show up in time for practice. A leave from Barca seems imminent and his agent revealed that Ronaldinho has come to terms with AC Milan. Barcelona has yet to deny or acknowledge this rumor.

Video Friendly advice, turn off the sound!

Fact Ronaldinho brother and agent was a big talent himself, playing at Gremio, but after an injury he had to stop playing.

    24. Roy Maurice Keane

    p1_keane_2_1118.jpg

    Country of Origin Ireland

Teams Cobh Ramblers, Nottingham Forrest, Manchester United, Celtic

Style Berserker with a golden touch.

    Description

If anything Roy Keane is an icon in Irish sports history. Known for being a hot headed rebel in and outside of the field but always remembered as a brilliant director on the midfield of one of the best Manchester United squads this side of the second world war.

As a child Roy Keane became a great admirer of Bryan Robson, little did tiny Keano knew that he was going to be standing in his footsteps at Old Trafford winning seven Premier League Titles, 4 FA Cups and 1 Champions League.

Keane was an amazing footballer but also wasn't afraid to speak his mind. During his career he had numerous altercations with his managers. This eventually led to his departure from Manchester United and his retirement from the Irish national team.

    Keane currently manages Sunderland

Video There is only one Keano!

Fact Roy Keane originally supported Tottenham Hotspurs!

Stay tuned for the next two in the list tomorrow!

  7. So I'm once again installing this game but I want to play it without getting bored quick. Last couple of times I started a game, went for 2 days of in game time and then just didn't look at it again. Anyone got any advice as to how to keep the game fresh and interesting (without cheating)?

  8. I like playing online but I'm kinda getting sick of constantly playing either man utd, arsenal, liverpool, chelsea or barcelona. On the other hand I did beat Liverpool with Darlington and Man Utd with Motherwell. Ahhh good times. Oh if anyone wants to play me my gamertag is DutchAnimal!

  9. I really like this game, play at least two songs every day.

Hardest one so far has been Klaxons - Magick on elite, that was just impossible but loads of fun.

Funnest one has been The Hives - T.H.E.H.I.V.E.S. with the constant speed changing.

Oh I'm Animal666 on there if anyone wants to find me!

  10. First of all, if this is in the wrong forum then, my bad please move to wherever it belongs!

Now to get started, after seeing all the top 100 lists on the Ring and the Movies and Music forums I thought, hey why not a top 100 footballer list. Just post your top 10 in order and a week from sunday I'll start adding up the points and start a result thread. You can choose footballers from all time!

    Here's mine

    1. Dennis Bergkamp

    2. Jari Litmanen

    3. Paolo Maldini

    4. Johan Cruijff

    5. Marco van Basten

    6. Raúl

    7. Thierry Henry

    8. Edwin van der Sar

    9. Roberto Carlos

    10. Ryan Giggs

Now get voting you footie loving EWB'ers!

  11. I really really want this game, the last baseball game I owned was Triple Play Baseball 1998 or something for the psone. And now that my psone is sold I've mainly been playing Ken Griffey on the SNES (still an awesome game tho). As soon as I see this is the stores somewhere I'm picking it up.

How is the fielding in this game, cause that tends to suck in most baseball games?

  12. Slight update on this: Jonah de Guzman has been called up for the Dutch squad pre-selection, not for certain that he is gonna make the main squad but chances are big that will happen.

Also in an interview with a newspaper de Guzman said that while Canadian football is definitely on it's way up he doesn't want to end up like Litmanen or Giggs and never be able to play a world cup or european cup. (i have a source for that but it's in Dutch, for Dutchies wh owanna read just searh the AD site)

    Don't shoot the messenger!

  13. Ok this seems cool, I'll have a go at it!

    1. Red Hot Chilipeppers - American Ghost Dance

Old school funky RHCP song. I just wish that they would play songs like this more often on gigs. You can really hear that George Clinton produced the album this is on (Freaky Styley)

2.] Alamo Race Track - Black Cat John Brown

Ahh yes Dutch pride here. Alamo Race Track is an awesome band and they have made a name for themselves in other countries aswell. This song was used on an episode of Grey's Anatomy and was a big youtube hit. Band members are nice blokes.

    3. Jolly Goods - Girl move away from here

Hmm I got this one trough an indie/rock playlist. They sound kinda like Be Your Own Pet on Valium. Nothing special I think.

    4. Ozzy Osbourne - Not Going Away

From the new Ozzy album. This song basically states what we all thought. Ozzy is still crazy. One of the more acceptable songs on the album as it has a good guitar riff in it. I just prefer Black Sabbath over Ozzy's solo stuff any day.

    5. Pixies - This Monkey's Gone to Heaven

Pure awesomeness. This song is just brilliantly put together, from Francis' melodramatic singing to the semi jolly chorus and from the screeching guitar to the extremely simple but effective baseline. I bet that if you play this song while falling asleep you'll get some crazy dreams.

    6. The Cribs - I'm a Realist

I"ve nbever really gotten into the Cribs, they make the music I like but it just doesn't do anything for me. This song has a nice sound too it tho.

    7. Dinosaur Jr. - It's Me

I actually got into Dinosaur Jr. thanks to you, EWB! I think it was EWB III where I posted a thread about grunge music and one of you recommended Dinosaur Jr to me. (Kudos for that person) I've been hooked ever since.

    8. Simian Mobile Disco - Sleep Deprivation

Ahh such a good club track. I can never sit still when this track comes on. Then again I'm usually the one who puts it on. No vocals in this track just an awesome beat accompanied by electronic sounds. What more do you need?

    9. Kanye West ft. Adam Levine - Heard 'em Say

But this album on the "3 good singles" rule and I haven't been dissapointed. This song in particular is my favorite of the album. It has a nice flow and seems quite relaxing to be honest.

    10. Nizlopi - Wash Away

SO the first time I saw Nizlopi was at Lowlands (a big festival in Holland) and the tent they were playing in was stacked. But this was mainly because it started raining like the world was ending. I couldn't get in anymore and only had my t-shirt on. So this nice girl from Manchester let me stand under her umbrella with her and some other people gave me a raincoat. Ahh those tender moments you think mankind isn't doomed. Anyway that is my memory of Nizlopi and I also bought their album.

    This was fun!

  14. Just because of this thread I decided to dust off my old copy off Driver (the first) on monday and I finished it, the final mission took me about 5 hours to complete, damnit that last level is hard, I must've tried it about 100 times, maybe more.

  15. 4/10 Props for Jefferson Airplane, Muse and Bon Jovi but I don't like the rest of it so yeah...

    ok here's mine

Bush - The Chemicals Between Us

The Lawrence Arms - Lose your Illusion 1

Alice in Chains - Heaven Beside You

Arctic Monkeys - When the Sun goes Down

MAnu Chao - Rainin in Paradize

Hootie and the Blowfish - Goodbye Girl

    Butthole Surfers - Whatever

Alamo Race Track - The Northern Territory

Funeral for a Friend - The Diary

Green Lizard - All you have

  16. I heard Akroyd and Ramis will write the story for the game as a sort of "3rd movie"

I have a source but it is in dutch so i'll look for another one...

Ahh yes here is a source "click" but I don't know how reliable it is. I do know the dutch site is reliable Here is the Dutch link for anyone who knows Dutch or is interested in learning it.

  17. Full Voting List
