  1. Anyone else think the Hurricanes cheerleaders are awesome? They are the only NHL team that I ever notice has them (shown on TV, anyway).

Buffalo/Philadelphia was one of the better games I have ever seen. I knew Philly made a good choice in Esche, as I always liked him (based on 2004 World Cup).

  2. -I had a feeling this would open up the show. Good match.

-Hmmm, Edge joins the Canadian Alliance by the end of the show. You heard it here first … unless someone else already said it.

-Goldust is a huge disappointment, just because I hate him.

-Goldust winning is even more of a disappointment.

-Good to see the Dudleyz retain.

-Awesome to see Jericho win and Edge join the Canadians. Edge vs. Austin either at No Way Out or at WrestleMania will be great.

-Royal Rumble Match: Dreamer’s trashcan full of weapons is pretty cool, I would have liked to see him last longer. Undertaker looking like a bad ass is awesome. :D Faarooq eliminating Bradshaw is funny. APA laughing though seems weird. Payback’s a bitch, Edge! I believe that is the first time the #30 has ever won a Rumble. Now I can’t wait for Jericho/Rock at WrestleMania.

Overall thoughts on the show, Edge/Rob Van Dam was good, but predictable, Undertaker/Flair was solid, Jericho/Austin was good and The Rock winning was pretty good. Goldust winning just plain sucks, IMO, but I can't have my way all the time.

It was a good show, above average, but not by too much. Between **3/4 and ***.

    30 Man Royal Rumble Match:

Winner Faces the Undisputed Champion @ WrestleMania X8!

    The Rock

***** Rock and Jericho, both being so charismatic, would be an awesome WrestleMania match IMO.

    Undisputed Title Match:

Chris Jericho © vs “Stone Cold” Steve Austin

***** Jericho won't lose now. He just won't, a two month reign would be horrible.

    No Holds Barred:

    Undertaker vs Ric Flair

***** Flair gains nothing to win, but if there is a rematch later on, Flair will win this time. But as of now, Taker wins.

    Tag Team Title Match:

Dudley Boyz © vs Kane & Big Show

***** Had the Dudley Boyz to retain, but heels were going to win the rest of the matches. So KBS win.

    Grudge Match:

    Rob Van Dam vs Edge

***** Non-title and RVD has already won twice. Edge has to win.

    European Title Match:

    Christian © vs Mystery Opponent

Edit - How funny would it be if it was Lance Storm or Test?

    Prediction Contest:

1 point for each correct match

    Bonus Questions:

Which match will open the show? (1 point) European

Who will be in the final four of the Royal Rumble? (1 point for each correct participant) Angle, Triple H (I think he will return), Rock and Kane

Who will Christian’s mystery opponent be? (3 points) British Bulldog

Which match will get the best star rating? (1 point) Jericho/Austin

  4. -Good way for Undertaker to lose the title, gives his match with Flair more meaning down the line.

-I think it would be awesome if Test cost Scotty 2 Hotty’s spot in the Royal Rumble, because Test also did it during the Immunity battle royal at Survivor Series. It could be a cool No Way Out match.

    -You have Angle spot on.

-Just a little quirk, but I think it is Jonathan Coachman, with two “a”’s and one “o”

-With no Intercontinental title on the line, I’d say Edge will win because of already losing twice.

-When I first read that Angle won, I was upset, but because of the interference, it is alright.

-What was Jericho saying? Unless it spoils the main event, you should have told us.

-Austin shaking hands seems a little weird.

-I hate when two-on-one’s end with the single man winning. Just makes the other team look weak.

Another good show, but I didn’t like some of the decisions.

Just a question, if a wrestler wrestles earlier in the night, are they eligible for the Royal Rumble?

  5. -Hopefully the Big Show and Kane victory here means the Dudley Boyz will win at the Rumble.

-I love Jericho, but where was the Canadian Alliance? They should have been with him as a stable.

-I forgot about the cruiserweight division honestly. Hopefully you put some angles into that side as well.

-I wonder if the Canadian Alliance will get in Edge’s way. I seriously do.

-I predict Booker will cost Angle the main event.

-Nice Canadian Alliance segment, good way to get me pumped for the match.

-Awesome to see Taker actually do something! It should be a great match for the Rumble.

-Awesome main event. Would have been sweet to see on TV.

    Looking forward to the Rumble!

  6. -Hopefully the Dudleyz retain.

-Christian will retain at the RR … right?

-Nice to see the Cda. Alliance being your classic heels.

-That was Undertaker that did that, right? If so, AWESOME. If not, well, it is still pretty cool.

-I just don’t like two “holy shit” moments (Flair and Edge) straight after each other, but the ending was still good. I was wondering why Flair/Vince wasn’t the main event segment, but this showed why.

  7. -I’m hoping Big Show and Kane do not team for too long. I’d rather see the Brothers of Destruction come back.

-I’m actually upset that Edge versus Rob Van Dam is on Smackdown and not the Royal Rumble.

-As I have said before, hopefully these Undertaker bouts eventually lead to something.

-Well, I absolutely LOVE Canada. ;)

This was a solid show, Smackdown should be that much better.

  8. -Hopefully Undertaker moves onto something else soon, as these random matches are just … random.

    -I love Jericho.

-The tag match was kind of the same as Undertaker’s matches.

-Heh, this Hurricane/Rock team should be great. Reminds me of the Rock n’ Sock.

-I’d love to have Kane win cleanly, because I mark for him, but Jericho really couldn’t suffer the loss, so this match served its purpose.

-Hmmm, hopefully this match leads to an RVD push. And an Edge push, for that matter.

  9. This is awesome. I love everything so far.

-Don’t like the opening squash for Jericho, but he had to do something with most of the main eventer’s gone.

-The Rock’s promo was very good

-Hopefully Undertaker loses the Hardcore title soon and goes back to the main event scene

-I like non-title wins for champions

    -Great angle by Christian/Vince

-Obviously Christian/Storm won’t be winning if Christian has to defend his title at the RR

    -Surprised Edge/Test was just *

-Looking forward to RVD/Edge, that should be great

-I initially wanted Rock to win, but now hopefully that sets up a Rock/Jericho WM18 match.

Technically, the wrestling was sub par until the main event. But it was well written. I love the short write-ups, I am assuming you will include more for PPV’s, but if you didn’t, I’d like that just the same. Another thing, the font kicks ass.

  10. Korea 3 versus Japan 2 in the final game of the pool. Both teams advance to the next round.

I think this tournament is going to be great. Canada and Mexico is the game to watch, for me, because the Americans do seem to be taking it seriously, and should advance with ease. But hey, Japan was supposed to beat Korea, too.

  11. Another good show. Edge and Val Venis are your future. Assuming that it was Eric Angle attacking? I was thinking Eric would run away and somehow Kurt Angle attack one of his Backlash opponents or something. Hopefully Billy & Chuck will see some better days. Did Kane have a new mask?

Good show, leaves me wanting more.

  12. This is great so far. Awesome opening segment between Flair and Austin. Val Venis’s new gimmick looks cool. I love Morgan Dudley, something different than the regular Dudley Boys. I think it’d be cool to see D-Von and Spike team together on Smackdown. Again, Undertaker and Triple H are written perfectly. Austin rebelling against Flair is great. The mask coming off was a nice touch, too. The nWo is an awesome stable, so far. Looking forward to Smackdown.

  13. You are a fantastic writer. Every character seems to be portrayed perfectly. I absolutely loved William Regal. The Storm and Christian angle seems to be pretty cool. Hopefully it somehow leads to a Tag Team championship run. I am surprised that Triple H - Jericho was as bad as it was.

Good diary - Morgan Dudley, though. Is that Matt Morgan?

  14. Congratulations, this is very well done. Your backstage/creative decision (for lack of a better word) pieces are very well written, and enjoyable to read. The struggles you face are a lot of fun to read. :P I enjoyed your Nitro style better than your Thunder. The main thing that threw me off of Thunder was the blue for the quotes.

None-the-less, a very good start to what should be a very good diary.

  16. After the Jays recent sluggish road trip, the news wasn't any better.

Roy Halladay will miss the rest of the season. :'(

I'm not giving up hope because I never will, but things aren't looking good. Hopefully Lilly can return and give them a few good starts to give them a chance.

Commentators: Mike Tenay & Scott Hudson

    A Fabulous Attack

Before Mike Tenay and Scott Hudson even open the show up for the television viewing audience, we go right to the backstage where “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner is walking like a madman with a lead pipe in his hands.

Scott Steiner: Booker T – I know you’re back here somewhere.

As Steiner turns around a corner, Booker T is talking with road agent Johnny Ace. Steiner drills him from behind in the back with the pipe. Steiner drops the pipe and throws Booker T into the wall before laying him out with a thunderous right arm clothesline. Steiner picks Booker up and hangs him out to dry on a crate backstage. Booker tries getting up, and is on his knees, but Steiner kicks him in the ribs.

Johnny Ace is speechless through the whole time.

Scott Steiner: Just gim’me the title right now, boy.

Steiner almost whispers before he leaves.

Johnny Ace: We need some help … quick! HELP!

Mike Tenay: I don’t believe it. Ladies and gentlemen we just witnessed the most heinous attacks in WCW history.

Scott Hudson: No doubt about, you gotta wonder if Booker T will be able to wrestle this Sunday in the Caged Heat match. As much as I hate to say it, I don’t think he will.

Mike Tenay: And Scott, Booker T may have made a huge mistake challenging Steiner to the Caged Heat match. I’m sorry you had to go through with that fans at home – we will update you on the condition of Booker T as we get the information, but for now lets go to the ring.

Big Vito (with Johnny The Bull) versus Sean O’Haire with Chuck Palumbo

Tenay informs us that the Mamalukes – Big Vito and Johnny The Bull, will take on Palumbo & O’Haire at the Great American Bash this Sunday for the WCW Heavyweight Tag Team titles. O’Haire had the advantage until the five-minute mark of the match when the Bull got on the apron. O’Haire walked into the Implant DDT from Vito for the win.

    Winner: Big Vito

After the match, Johnny The Bull hits the Fuhgettaboutit on O’Haire before Palumbo gets in the ring to chase them off.

Many Things Could Happen This Sunday

A hype video appears for the Diamond Dallas Page, Jeff Jarrett and Sting triple threat match that will happen at the Great American Bash. It showed highlights from Spring Stampede’s tag team match and Slamboree’s six man tag team match. In the end it has Page, Jarrett and Sting splitting the screen three way with, “Who Will Win?”

A Challenge For the Great American Bash

Lance Storm comes out to the ring and has a microphone.

Lance Storm: If I could be serious for a minute … Hugh Morrus, you are right – this is No Laughing Matter. It seems you want in on this battle between Mike Awesome and myself. Well then why don’t you team up with Mike Awesome and Rob Van Dam this Sunday to take on Team Canada?

Hugh Morrus wastes no time coming out.

Hugh Morrus: Lance Storm, I can tell you that we definitely accept your offer. But I’m ready to kick your ass, right now!

    Lance Storm: You’re on …

    Hugh Morrus versus Lance Storm

Morrus gets into the ring and the brawl is on. After a good brawl, Morrus chucks Storm into the corner and hits three shoulder thrusts into the gut before putting Storm on the top rope. Morrus superplexes Storm, and Storm lands a bit weird. Morrus goes for the No Laughing Matter, but Storm moves out of the way. Storm locks on the Canadian Maple Leaf. Morrus battles it out and makes it to the ropes. Storm waits for Morrus to get on his knees to attack, but it was a costly mistake – Morrus picked Storm up when he got near and slammed him down for a spinebuster. Morrus hits the No Laughing Matter for the win.

    Winner: Hugh Morrus

Chavo Guerrero Jr. comes out to the ring.

Chavo Guerreero Jr.: Now that I know that I have a three way Cruiserweight championship shot with Crowbar and Shane Helms at the Great American Bash on Sunday, I need a warm-up match. I’m challenging any Cruiserweight backstage to a match.

Billy Kidman comes out with Torrie Wilson as he accepts the call.

WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team champion Billy Kidman (with Torrie Wilson) versus Chavo Guerrero Jr.

Nothing was wrong with this match at all, it was a standard match with each guy getting his advantage in, but nothing stood out, and the crowd showed that, not into the match at all. In the end, Kidman hit Guerrero with a flipping DDT, and went to the top rope. He went for a Shooting Star Press, but Guerrero moved out of the way at the last second! Kidman got to his feet and was smacked with the Brainbuster, giving Guerrero the win.

    Winner: Chavo Guerrero Jr.

    Goldberg versus Johnny The Bull

Goldberg didn’t know who his opponent was, but it didn’t phase him the least bit when Johnny The Bull, a rugged fighter as it is, came out. Johnny ran at Goldberg and hit a flying clothesline, knocking Goldberg to the mat. The Bull goes crazy with punches, but Goldberg phases them off and tosses Johnny onto the mat before hitting a gorilla press slam. Goldberg lines him up and crushes the Bull with a spear. Jackhammer, and Goldberg wins.

  18. Primal Urge was pretty good.  There's only one thing I don't really like so far and that's Steve Corino in Team Canada, he just doesn't look like he'd be in that kind of stable.  I'd like to see him turn on Storm and move on to feud in a while.  Other than that, the Booker/Steiner stuff was good, and the matches are pretty nice.  This seems like it's going the right direction, keep it up.

  19. PRIMAL URGE RESULTS

The first edition of Primal Urge drew a great 1.8 rating, a number that both WCW and the USA Network are extremely pleased with.  With the announcement that Goldberg will be at the next show, WCW hopes that the rating will stay at the same level.

Attendance was just over 3,000 and ticket sales were over $90,000.

  20. WCW Primal Urge

    June 4, 2001

    Orlando, Florida

Commentators: Mike Tenay & Scott Hudson

Mike Tenay: There is no war tonight, but WCW returns to Monday night television here on the USA Network. Welcome to Primal Urge, I’m Mike Tenay, here as always alongside Scott Hudson, and Scott there is no better way than to return to television with Mike Awesome teaming up with his new-found friend Rob Van Dam to take on Lance Storm’s Team Canada – the “King of Old School” Steve Corino and Test.

Scott Hudson: It is Mike, but the amazing thing is that is not all the action we have for you tonight! Crowbar is the new number one contender to the WCW Cruiserweight title, he will get his shot tonight against Helms.

Mike Tenay: But fans we don’t have any time to waste, Booker T has a new challenger for his WCW World championship, and he is coming out here to speak to you fans and to Scott Steiner!

“Don’t Hate the Playa’, Hate The Game!”

Booker T does come out to the ring to the delight of the fans in his dressy Hawaiian shirt with his championship draped around his shoulder.

Booker T: Boo yah! Booker T is in the house dawg! And it looks like the Bookerman has got a little challenge from “Big Poppa Pump!” Steiner, it looks like I’m on top of you. Since I won the title, I beat’choo at Hallowe’en Havoc, Night of Champions, Spring Stampede and you … you beat me at Mayhem. So I got NO PROBLEM kickin’ your ass one more time, but when you are on your back looking up at the lights, and when the smoke clears and I walk out as WCW champion … I want you to SAVE THE DRAMA FOR …

Sirens blare through the arena as Scott Steiner wastes no time and walks out to the ring.

Scott Steiner: Booker T, you may think you know what you’re getting into, but the truth is you have no clue. “Big Poppa Pump” is a reenergized man, and that’s not a good thing considering I’m the man with the largest arms in the world … and I’m the man that put you on the shelf for three months because you can’t handle a little pain.

Steiner, wearing his black shades shows no emotion on his face as Booker looks to the crowd.

Booker T: You think that’s so, don’tchya Scott. Well I have news for you. You see, this is why I’m here. I’m here to tell you that in 13 days we will have a rematch … from last November at Mayhem. It’s gonna be Caged Heat Steiner. It’s gonna be a straight jacket hanging from the top of the cage … and when you’re sittin’ at home this time after I put you out, DON’T HATE THE PLAYA’, HATE THE GAME!

This prompts Steiner to attack Booker T, but security are right on them before they have any chance to do anything.

WCW Cruiserweight championship: Crowbar versus “Sugar” Shane Helms ©

Crowbar is the number one contender after winning a match against former champion Chavo Guerrero Jr. Shane Helms defeated Chavo for the title at Green in March, retained it at the Night of Champions and at Spring Stampede before Crowbar defeated Guerrero at Slamboree. The cruiserweight division delivered another solid match as Shane Helms retains his championship with the Nightmare on Helms Street.

WCW United States Heavyweight champion Chris Kanyon & the Double A Team (Alan Funk & “Above Average” Mike Sanders) versus WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team champions Filthy Animals (Billy Kidman w/ Torrie Wilson & Rey Mysterio Jr. w/ Tygress) & Vampiro

From the looks of things it looks like we have two more matches for the Great American Bash pay-per-view. Mike Tenay confirms it, saying that Kanyon will defend his championship against Vampiro and the Double A Team will get their second chance at the Cruiserweight Tag Team champions Filthy Animals. Hence, we have a six man tag team match to build for the event. The crowd wasn’t too high on the match as the Double A Team are still new for them to adjust to as a team, but they should be taken seriously as Mike Sanders nails the 3.0 on Rey Mysterio Jr. for the win.

Team Canada are backstage. No interviewer, but Lance Storm has a microphone.

Lance Storm: I told Mike Awesome at Slamboree that there would be the real Team Canada showing up by the end of the night, and I … we, did not disappoint. Rob Van Dam wants to mess with our business, so tonight, the real Team Canada makes our debut. Steve Corino, the “King of Old School,” and my personal bodyguard, Test, will teach Van Dam and Mike Awesome what it costs to stick your nose in our business.

And this brings us to Shane McMahon in his office with some announcements to make.

Shane McMahon: What’s up WCW fans? I’ve somewhat kept in the dark over the last month or so, because I feel that it is up to the wrestlers to put the show on, after all, this is WCW, not the Shane McMahon show. However, I do feel the need to step into for certain situations, such as this. Next week, Goldberg will make his return to the ring!

The crowd roars in appreciation to this comment.

Shane McMahon: But that’s not all. Since Bagwell has left, Jeff Jarrett is without a partner to challenge his current enemies Diamond Dallas Page and Sting. Instead of a handicap match, we will be putting the three wrestlers in one triple threat match at the Great American Bash, with the winner becoming the number one contender to Booker T’s WCW championship … assuming he holds onto the belt passed Steiner in 13 days. For now, I do not have any more announcements, but stay tuned to Primal Urge tonight and next week for more!

Mike Awesome & Rob Van Dam versus Team Canada (“King of Old School” Steve Corino & Test – with Lance Storm)

Before Rob Van Dam even gets out to the ring, Awesome goes to attack both Corino and Test. Test and Corino take the advantage early as Van Dam gets to the ring to even the odds. But with a big boot from Test, Van Dam is taken down quickly himself. Corino tosses Awesome out of the ring and Test punishes Van Dam in the corner. Test nails Van Dam with a superplex. Test tags in Corino. He and Van Dam go at it for a while, but Corino ends up nailing a superkick right to RVD’s face. Awesome begs for a tag as Corino waits and hits a Northern Lights bomb on Van Dam! Awesome breaks up the pin and this is when the chaos happens. Awesome and Test go toe to toe as Van Dam hits the Van Damninator on Corino. Awesome knocks Test down and kicks Corino in the gut and hits an Awesome Bomb. Storm gets on the apron and distracts the referee, and no pin happens. Awesome knocks Storm off the apron as Van Dam goes to the top and hits the Five Star Frog Splash on Corino. He can’t make the cover and Storm and Awesome are verbally fighting. Test attacks Awesome from behind as Hugh Morrus runs in and throws Storm into the barricade! Van Dam hits a flying dropkick to Test, knocking him down as Awesome covers him for the win.

A six man brawl erupts right as the match ends. Within moments, Awesome knocks Corino out and Van Dam whips Test over the ropes. The two Canadian members can’t go back inside, or will be attacked, and can’t pull out Storm! Awesome hits Storm with the Awesome Bomb. Van Dam is on top and nails the Five Star Frog Splash, and finally Hugh Morrus hits the No Laughing Matter moonsault on Storm and the three faces celebrate as the show comes to an end.
