You could fight those guys, who are just called Mutants in the game...but they damn sure look like they could be cyborgs, zombies, or a mixture of the two.

Zalera would be one of your best bets, but you'd have tyo make sure you've got the Barheim Passage key so you can get back into Barheim through the alternate door. Plus, Zalera has some nasty level based attacks so you'd need to be a certain level (43 or 47) to avoid them. If you're at Sochen, then the next storyline esper (Shemhazai) isn't for some time. So I guess it's a toss up over whether you'd want to go through the annoyances to get the key (if you haven't already) or just carrying on through the game until you get to the Great Crystal.

I'm currently on the way to getting them all, just got Ultima and Zodiark left to go. Of them all, the only one's I'd say were challenging to fight would be Zalera and Cuchulainn. The former wasn't so hard, but mroe annoying due to the time limit. Cuchulainn however was a complete bastard thanks to the hp draining field effect AND the fact that he could cause sap AND his little spawning Foobars.

The only reasons you should go after the elementals is to complete the bestiary, or if you're going to try and buy the Tournesoul. Elementals can drop Feystones (with the Sage's Monograph I think) which are needed to get High Arcanas, which are in turn needed to get Emperyal Souls from the bazaar.

Anyone else using the simple tactics of giving Basch haste and berserk and watching him tear apart nearly every boss character the game has to offer?

I fucking love this game, definitely one of the highlights of FFVIII for me. I remember finding the site quite a while ago, but kinda drifted away from it. But now I've signed up again, the awesomeness has come flooding back. Listening to 'Shuffle or Boogie' while playing, just completes the experience. ^_^

Ugh, I was hoping to never have to get another PS2 game once I'd got FFXII...

Not surprisingly for me, the FF series are the ones I've got my money's worth out of the most. Collectively I've spent thousands of hours playing them, and to this day I can still pick any one of them up and happily play it again.

I'd been a firm Sony supporter for years, but it's stuff like this that makes me look at my 360 and smile.

I usually don't give a toss about these, but I was really happy to see Forest Whitaker and Hugh Laurie win awards.
