We should have persued Owen before Crouch. Yes 18 mil is silly money, but Rafa should have acted sooner

In the first game against Betis, Crouch and Pongolle looked like they could have made an effective partnership. I wish they would've been given more of a chance though.

Sinama-Pongolle is a lively player, always looks likely to make something happen. I'm of the opinion that he'll leave in the summer though, as will Cisse (who'll hopefully have a good World Cup with France so that the club can get most of the £14m back) and Morientes and Crouch will stay.

I don't see Pongolle leaving just yet, Benitez seems to give his strikers a decent chance before shipping them out (which is why I think Cisse and Nando will go). I think that we'll be left with Crouch, Fowler and Pongolle, with Mellor, Cisse and Morientes going.

The sad thing is that if Cisse doesn't perform in the right wing position he was playing in, Benitez isn't likely to keep him on. On Five Live, he basically said Cisse had his chance, and if he couldn't take it, he'd probably be leaving.

At the start of the season Crouch was our best player (alongside Gerrard). Nearly all of our attacks revolved around him holding up the ball, and linking up with everyone around him. It's the reason why fans didn't start getting on his back when he didn't score, because he was doing so much more for the team. Like the rest of our players though he's tired (and looks it), he needs a decent rest.

Personally, I've seen him play better on the right than I have in attack. He's got the pace to beat defenders, and his crosses are usually quite good (which is much more than can be said for his finishing). He's had plenty of opportunities in attack and has failed to deliver, and was never worth £14 million. Another typical example of Houllier playing way to much for an untried & untested player.

I think Andy Gray summed it up during the Utd/Liverpool game, if Liverpool had Van Nistelrooy and Rooney then the title race would be very interesting.

Also, Wigan will be a tough game. Strong team to beat when they're at their best, and while on paper Liverpool should beat them, I don't expect it to go down like that. Wouldn't be surprised if they caused an upset actually. Should be a very good game. I take it Gerrard is back for this one?

Thoroughly deserved win. Glad Gerrard's missed penalty didn't come back to haunt us (even though it wasn't a penalty), I had a horrible feeling that we'd concede in the last minute. Morientes played well, so I expect he'll be shit for the next three or four games >_>

Man U tomorrow then. I hate games against them, there's just too much at stake. Even if we're winning I can't enjoy it until the final whistle. We are due a win over them though, so hopefully tomorrow will be our day.

Not even the most hardened United supporter would have predicted a 3-1 victory at Anfield, given the closeness of recent games and Liverpool's defensive record. Only someone who has next to no knowledge about football would.

I really think I'd rather see Liverpool win stuff than Chelsea or Man United (if it's not gonna be us of course).

It's one thing about Liverpool I like, they don't carry the arrogance of Chelsea/Mourinho or United/Ferguson.
