Who Can Become The Number One Contender

Last week on WWE RAW we saw Chris Benoit defeat Chris Jericho to earn himself a shot at the number one contendership for the WWE Title as he faces off the same opponent as last time, Chris Jericho. Last week the number one contender, Chris Jericho, tapped to Benoit’s crippler crossface meaning his contendership would be on the line against the same person next week! One person who wasn’t too thrilled with Benoit getting a chance to become number one contender was Triple H. After the match last week Triple H came down to ringside and proceeded to hit Benoit with his patented Pedigree. Can Benoit overcome Jericho or will last weeks attack prove a distraction in his mind?

Also last week we saw a sickening act from Shelton Benjamin, a usually nice, energetic wrestling showed his dark side when he proceeded to cut off his former best friend’s wristbands that he wears in memory of his brother who died of a heart failure on December 15th 2001. Charlie Haas broke down in the centre of the ring but not after demanding a 30 minute Iron Match against Shelton Benjamin. It’s been no secret that Charlie Haas hasn’t been in the right mindset as of late costing him and Benjamin tag matches and Benjamin the Intercontinental title but what Benjamin done last week was a violent and unnecessary act. What will Charlie Haas have to say on the matter?

Speaking of in the Intercontinental Title, the holder, Carlito ‘Caribbean’ Cool will once against host his ‘Carlito’s Cabana’. Last week his guest was non other than the WWE Champion himself, Batista where Batista and Chris Jericho got into a heated argument. This week Carlito Cool will be interviewing the British superstar, William Regal who is a former Intercontinental champion and has held the now defunct European title and held the Tag team titles each on four occasions winning the tag titles with three different wrestlers - Lance Storm, his pupil Eugene Dinsmore and most recently Yoshihiro Tajiri twice. Regal is not short on accolades, that is for sure and will prove a tremendous guest on the Cabana this week.

While on the topic of tag teams and Yoshihiro Tajiri, he will be in tag team action himself tonight as he teams up with Eugene Dinsmore to take on the team of Billy Kidman and Simon Dean. Tajiri and Kidman have been at each others throats for weeks with Billy Kidman taking a pinfall victory over Tajiri in singles action but Tajiri does hold a pinfall victory over Billy Kidman when he pinned him in tag team action. Once again the two meet on opposite teams with the chance to go at it in the ring.

Also two weeks ago Maven defeated Rob Van Dam when he brought a steel chair into the ring and got it kicked in his face. The victory may have been a disqualification but a victory over RVD should never be overlooked. Maven and Rob Van Dam will meet again inside the ring once again but thrown in the mix this week will be Edge and Shawn Michaels as these four men meet in tag team action.

Carlito’s Cabana With William Regal

The credits have rolled following a ‘flashback’ video of last weeks happenings on RAW. We cut to the stage where we get a quick hello from Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler and then we go straight to the ring where Carlito’s Cabana is all set out. The Intercontinental champion then makes his way to the ring, he smiles as he rubs his title, the crowd are less than pleased to see Carlito. After he has got in the ring he announces his guest as a former Intercontinental champion, a four time European champion and a four time Tag Team champion with three different opponents. William Regal then makes his way down to the ring and climbs in, he holds a black briefcase in his hand as he shakes hands with Carlito. They begin doing an interview as Carlito speaks of Regal’s relationship with Eugene Dinsmore and Tajiri. Regal says that Tajiri is a good friend and great wrestling partner and that Eugene was his pupil and a great wrestler. Carlito then asked what Regal had in his briefcase and Regal opened it up to reveal the European title, the crowd looked confused as Regal announced that Eric Bischoff had deactivated the Women’s title and had given Regal permission to reinstate the European title. Regal said that the European title stood for honour and a different class of wrestling, that it stood for technical brilliance and grace and that Eric Bischoff had entrusted him to create a tournament for the newly reinstated European title. Carlito told Regal to back it up a minute…there was no more Woman’s division? Regal said that that is just what Eric Bischoff had told him. Carlito then said how the European title wasn’t nearly as good as his Intercontinental title and William Regal dared Carlito to put it on the line against him at SummerSlam! Carlito got uptight and accepted the challenge as the Cabana ended in a stare down and a mew match for SummerSlam!

Edge & Maven versus Rob Van Dam & Shawn Michaels

RAW started off with a tag match featuring two of the biggest names in Wrestling today, one of the best wrestlers ever and a future star. Edge and Rob Van Dam started out, trading holds in the centre of the ring but Edge got the advantage, he goes behind with a waist lock and hits RVD with a suplex, the crowd boo as Edge holds on for a two count as he and RVD get up and go face to face again. RVD goes for a right hand, but Edge blocks it, Edge tries the same but receives the same treatment as RVD, RVD fakes a right hand and then clocks Edge with a left hand who hit’s the mat but gets up instantly looking annoyed. He holds his cheek where he was hit and tags out to Maven, the original Tough Enough winner hops over the top rope and ducks a clothesline from RVD and hit’s a dropkick to the chest of Mr. Monday Night. RVD staggers back into the turnbuckle as Maven follows up by running at RVD and squashing him in the turnbuckle, Maven mounts the second rope and begins a ten punch on RVD but RVD slips underneath Maven though and dropkicks one of Maven’s legs off the rope causing him to slip and crash to the floor. RVD tags out to Shawn Michaels who gets a good reaction as he gets in the ring and takes down Maven with a clothesline, then another. Edge gets in the ring to come to his partners aid, he aims for a spear but Michaels dodges it and sends Edge crashing into the turnbuckle post! A sickening thud can be heard as everyone watching cringes as RVD watches Edge slump to the floor on the outside holding his shoulder, back in the ring Maven gets up and turns around, he manages to just duck a Sweet Chin Music and take down Shawn Michaels with a dropkick sending him through the ropes. Maven then turns around and gets took down by a cross body off the top rope from RVD but Maven rolls through and pulls RVD up, he wearily goes to the edge of the ring to throw RVD out of the ring but Michaels trips Maven and RVD lands on him in a pinfall position, the referee refuses to count citing that Michaels is the legal man and not RVD. Michaels slides in the ring and taunts Maven to get up, Michaels is tuning up the band as Maven groggily pulls himself up, he turns around but Edge has managed to grab onto Michaels foot. As Edge holds onto Michaels, Maven throws RVD over the top rope and Michaels manages to kick Edge’s grip from his hand, he succeeds and goes for a Sweet Chin Music but misses by a mile, he regains his footing and turns around into a Butterfly Powerbomb from Maven. Maven covers, 1...2..3! Maven got the pinfall over Shawn Michaels! Maven rolled out of the ring and pulled Edge up with him as the two backed up the ramp as Edge held his right shoulder, clearly still in pain. Meanwhile RVD rolls in the ring and helps up Michaels to his feet as the two teams stare down.

SmackDown! Rebound

We first see John Bradshaw Layfield’s WWE Title ceremony, it shows him parading around the ring with his title. Then we see Hardcore Holly looking at Scotty 2 Hotty in disgust and leaving him in the ring. After that we cut to the screen showing Chris Master’s returning video. Following this we see Rene Dupree look on in shock as he is told he will face John Cena next week on SmackDown! and finally we see John Cena cut a bit of his promo and flash the ‘Word Life’ symbol as the SmackDown! Rebound comes to an end.

The Heart Throbs Make Their Voices Heard

We go backstage where we see The Hurricane and Rosey dressed in superhero gear talking, there are a couple of backstage workers also standing backstage talking to them. Suddenly the workers run off screaming as the Hurricane and Rosey look around as to why but go crashing to the floor, the camera pulls back to reveal Antonio and Romeo, the Heart Throbs holding chairs. They each single out a wrestler and drive the chairs onto their backs before finishing off by powering the rim of the chair into the spine of each worker causing them to cry in pain. The Heart Throbs do a sexual pose at their opponents and walk off laughing while dressed in neon pink clothes.

Billy Kidman & Simon Dean versus Eugene Dinsmore & Yoshihiro Tajiri

Billy Kidman comes down by himself first as Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler discuss what just happened concerning the Heart Throbs and the Tag Team champions, Rosey and The Hurricane. After Billy Kidman’s entrance it is time for Simon Dean to make his appearance. Dean hit’s the ring in his tracksuit while holding a protein shake in one hand, he takes a drink and then offers it to a fan on the way down, the fan has his hand outstretched but Dean takes it away from his hand and rubs his fingers as if signalling for money. He laughs and comes down to the ring as Eugene Dinsmore and Yoshihiro Tajiri make their way to the ring together. The match starts with Tajiri signalling for Kidman but instead Dean attacks him onto the mat, and drops some elbows onto Tajiri. Tajiri pulls himself up to his feet and tags in Eugene who does some mat wrestling with Dean. The two exchange holds and take part in some great chain wrestling as Eugene gets the advantage with a trifecta over German suplexes. Dean tags out to Kidman who hops in the ring and misses with a clothesline on Eugene, Eugene kicks him in the gut and snap suplexes Kidman, Eugene turns the hips Eddie Guerrero style and hits another quick suplex and then finally holds up Kidman in a stalling suplex as Tajiri ascends the top rope! Tajiri leaps off with a dropkick to Kidman as Eugene drops down with the final suplex and covers, 1...2...save from Dean. Dean attacks Eugene and Tajiri at the same time ducking a double clothesline and coming back with one of his own. After Kidman finally gets up and hot tags in Tajiri we finally get the feuding workers in the ring but not for long as Kidman tags out to Dean. Tajiri takes down Dean with a big vicious kick to the head following several to the legs, Tajiri tells Kidman to get in the ring but Kidman jumps off the apron and backs off up the ramp with Tajiri looking puzzled, Tajiri is about to go running after him but Eugene goes instead and hits Kidman from behind, Kidman turns around and ducks a right hand and throws Eugene into the barrier. Tajiri turns around, and Simon Dean squirts his protein shake in Tajiri’s eyes! Dean goes for a dropkick and sends Tajiri staggering back off the ropes, he rolls him up on the rebound, 1...2..Kickout. Simon Dean can’t believe it as he pulls up Tajiri and throws him off the ropes but Tajiri hit’s a cartwheel, handspring elbow sending Dean off the ropes and back into a roundhouse kick! 1...2...3! Tajiri picks up the victory for his team. Tajiri immediately leaves the ring and runs off up the ramp to check on Eugene.

SummerSlam Will Be 30 Minutes Of Hell

We cut to somewhere outside, it is clearly dark as the only source of light comes from a lightened ‘Anarchy’ sign that is burning brightly, in the middle of the burning symbol is a man with a hooded top on, the hood covers his face as he takes it down and we see Charlie Haas. Charlie Haas says that what Shelton Benjamin done to him last week was in a way a good thing, since then Haas claims he has broken out of the shell of his former self and is now more dangerous than ever, of course, that’s not a good thing of Shelton Benjamin. Charlie says that other than his dearly departed brother, Shelton was the only person he could trust, well now he no longer had anyone he could trust and it was plaguing his mind, now his mind had become a dark, mysterious and cavernous place where even he daren’t go. Shelton Benjamin’s despicable actions had done nothing but unleash Charlie Haas and now that Haas was only beside himself, SummerSlam would be thirty minutes of hell for Shelton Benjamin.

Matt Morgan versus William Regal

Carlito’s ‘bodyguard’ went up against Carlito’s SummerSlam opponent in this match. Regal started out on top of the match, knocking back Morgan with some staggering uppercuts sending Morgan back into the ropes, Regal whips Morgan across the ring and applies a sleeper hold as he returns, Morgan flails his arms momentarily but manages to elbow his way free from the move, Morgan runs across the ring and comes back off the ropes with a clothesline attempt however Regal ducks it and as Morgan rebounds off the opposite ropes Regal dropkicks the foot of Morgan sending the big man crashing to the floor, Morgan quickly pulls himself up to one knee as Regal moves behind his opponent and places one foot on his back and pulls back on Morgan’s arms applying a surfboard stretch. Morgan wriggled his way to the ropes and slung his foot over the bottom rope meaning Regal had to break the hold, Regal let go of Morgan who fell onto his back complaining of his back and shoulders hurting. Regal executed a near flawless Northern Lights Suplex as the referee counted the following pinfall, 1...2...kickout. Morgan showed good resilience there but couldn’t manage to get up by himself, Regal hit some strong stomps on Morgan to refrain him from getting up but then pulled him up to his feet himself. Regal kept the advantage for a short while but Morgan poked him in the eye with his thumb and hit a devastating German suplex to show that the big man isn’t all punches and kicks, Morgan covered Regal but only managed a 2 count. He pulled up his English opponent and violently threw him into the turnbuckle, he followed up with a big clothesline causing Regal to just fall flat on his face Morgan elbowed Regal in the back three times or so and then climbed onto the second rope he jumped off and tried to land with both feet on Regal’s back but Regal rolled to the side and underneath the ropes. Morgan quickly grabbed Regal and tried to pull him up but Regal valiantly held onto the ropes, Morgan managed to use his brute strength to yank Regal off the ropes and lay his head over the top rope, Morgan backed off to the other side ready to run and crush Regal but the referee intervened. As the referee stopped Morgan a man with a hooded top on jumped over the barrier, the hood was up to conceal his identity as he jumped on the apron and hung Regal over the top rope, as he jumped down from the apron his hood came off to reveal Carlito Cool as the perpetrator, the crowd booed as Carlito gave an extremely cheesy thumbs up sign and hopped back over the rope, Regal staggered around and got kicked in the gut and nailed with a Powerbomb from Morgan for the 3 count. Morgan got up and celebrated as Carlito Cool came back over the barrier and got in the ring, he pulled up Regal and got in his face as Morgan held him up. Carlito unloaded some body shots to Regal and then hit him with a swinging neck breaker, the Intercontinental Title challenger was down and out as Carlito and his ‘bodyguard’ left.

Triple H’s Message

Triple H is backstage with Jonathon Coachman ready to do an interview. The Coach says how he is standing with a true living legend, a ten time World Champion, the founder of the greatest faction ever - Evolution, and perhaps the greatest wrestler in the World. After Coach has finished putting over Triple H he asks why Triple H done what he done to Chris Benoit last week. Triple H said that he told everyone why he done it, because should be the number one contender and Chris Benoit doesn’t deserve a chance to become number one contender because he didn’t win the battle royal. When Coach inadvertently says that Triple H didn’t either Triple H becomes agitated and says that he shouldn’t have to because of his credentials, he’s a ten time World champion and Triple H has done more for this company than anyone else could possibly do and that that was his motive behind his assault on Chris Benoit last week. Coach then made Triple H seemingly even more angry when Coach announced that Eric Bischoff had declared Triple H was barred from getting involved in this match. At first Triple H was livid but suddenly he settled down and smiled, he asked Coach to repeat what he said and Coach complied “Eric Bischoff has declared that you, Triple H, are barred from physically getting involved with the match between Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit” the smile on Triple H’s face grew more broad as he replied “Yeah, that’s fine…that’s just fine.” He walked away with Coach looking puzzled.

Tag Title Match Next Week

Backstage we see Eric Bischoff in his office, the door barges open and in prance the Heart Throbs, Antonio and Romeo. They ask what Eric Bischoff wanted them for as Bischoff looks slightly disgusted with them, he demands that next time they come in they knock and await being called in. After his brief lecture Bischoff says that what Antonio and Romeo done earlier to the Tag Champions, The Hurricane and Rosey was unacceptable and he would not tolerate it. However he knew that the Heart Throbs were new and perhaps didn’t know the right way to go about things, he knew that they wanted a title shot. They nodded in agreement as Eric Bischoff waited a minute, he then said that next week we would see The Hurricane and Rosey defend their titles against The Heart Throbs. As the Heart Throbs left Bischoff reminded them next time they should just come see him instead of attacking people, and knock!

Chris Benoit versus Chris Jericho

Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho lock up immediately, Jericho finds himself in a waist lock hold from Benoit but Jericho counters it and puts Benoit in a full nelson lock, the two struggled for a few minutes in an all out technical affair. They managed to keep the crowd relatively interested but then Benoit busted out two consecutive German suplexes and the crowd began to cheer, Jericho attempted to stop the third suplex by locking his leg around Benoit’s to prevent the move. Jericho swung forward and planted Benoit with a bulldog to the mat and leaped to the ropes, he came off the second one with a lionsault attempt but his gut was introduced to Benoit’s knees as the crowd cheered once again. Benoit quickly got up and attacked Jericho with a double axe handle the back of Jericho taking him to his knees as he was slowly getting up. Benoit applied a front face lock and hit a snap suplex on his ailing opponent who quickly got up but staggered around the ring, Benoit done his signature takedown when he bundles them to the mat with close contact. Benoit quickly covered Jericho but only managed a three count, Benoit was the leading wrestler in this match with Jericho struggling to get much offence as Benoit held up Jericho for about fifteen seconds before dropping him with a Brainbuster pin! 1...2...kickout, Jericho rolled his shoulder off the canvas but Benoit hardly seemed bothered as he rolled Jericho onto his stomach and mounted him with a camel clutch! Jericho struggled, his legs flailing and his hands desperately trying to free Benoit’s grip but Benoit’s arms were locked in tight, Jericho’s arm actually raised as if he was about to tap but Jericho slung his foot over the bottom rope to break the hold. JR and King discussed how Benoit’s arms were so strong because not only was he an expert submission wrestler but all those Crippler Crossface’s he puts on people give him wicked arm strength. Jericho pulled himself closer to the ropes to recuperate as the referee stopped Benoit from attacking him. While the two were at a cease fire, JR and King discussed RAW’s SummerSlam matches. Batista versus either Jericho or Benoit, Carlito versus Regal and Haas versus Benjamin were the three matches with one or two more still to come. Jericho had fully recovered now and sneakily pushed Benoit into the referee, meaning the referee was sandwich between the turnbuckle and Benoit. Benoit nailed Jericho with a forearm sending him to his knees and moved out of the way of the turnbuckle. The referee turned and leaned over the ropes gasping for air as Jericho connected with a low blow to Benoit and ran off the ropes, Benoit stood still but ducked under a Jericho clothesline but he was still in pain and Jericho spring boarded off the second rope and came back with a back elbow shot to Benoit taking both men down. Jericho was the first man up, albeit not immediately, and he attacked Benoit with some stomps. As Jericho pulled up Benoit, Benoit had a sudden burst of life and opened up with some big shots to Jericho, rocking him backwards and Benoit took down Jericho with a Crippler Crossface! Benoit has the Crossface locked in tight! However Triple H is making his way down to the ring to jeers from the crowd, as he got to the ring though the referee leaned through the ropes and tried to order him to the back saying that if he didn’t go immediately Jericho would forfeit the match and Benoit declared winner. Triple put up his hands innocently and began to walk backwards up the ramp but the damage had been done! A man of black origin had made his way into the ring through the crowd and as Benoit wanted to see what was happening, the man nailed Benoit in the back with the rim of a chair. Benoit hit the mat in a slump as Jericho got up holding his injured neck, he made his way over to the fallen Benoit and locked on the Walls of Jericho, Triple H instantly turned and left as the referee turned round to see Benoit in the Walls of Jericho. It was soon clear Benoit wasn’t responding and the referee ended the match, giving the victory to Jericho. Jericho collapsed to the floor and rolled out the ring as Triple H reappeared at the top of the stage.

The Salt In The Wound Before SummerSlam

With Jericho facing Batista for the title at SummerSlam, Triple H had accomplished his goal, or at least the man who can only be associated with Triple H had accomplished Triple H’s goal. As EMT’s came down to the ring to check on Benoit, they began to get a red backboard out for Benoit but Benoit pushed it away and slowly pulled himself up to his feet. Benoit staggered to the ropes and fell on them as EMT’s and referee’s surrounded him ready for if he fell. Benoit used one hand to nurse his back and the other to point at Triple H and shout at him. Triple H smiled smugly, he didn’t speak but he had everything planned out. He began slowly walking to the ring and stopped at the bottom of the ramp, Benoit motioned for him to get in but Triple H simply shook his head. As he did the man from earlier pulled all the EMT’s and referee’s to the mat and out of the way, he turns around Benoit and then lifts him onto his shoulder so Benoit’s face is hanging down the front of the man’s body, the man then throws Benoit onto his back with a move called the Emerald Frosion*, he gets up and raises his arms in the air as Triple H joins him in the ring with a microphone and declares that he may not have been allowed to get physically involved but he didn’t, he let his newest accomplice do that instead. Triple H told Benoit he’d see him at SummerSlam in singles action, as for Triple H’s newest accomplice, you can call him Skipper, Elix Skipper. Triple H posed above Benoit’s body, Skipper smiled, JR and King went crazy over Benoit versus Triple H at SummerSlam! As the show came to an end.

WWE SmackDown! Preview - August 11, 2005

WWE will be at home when they head to their home city of Connecticut. The Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The WWE fans who do not attend better watch on Television because SmackDown! will be off the hook!

This week on WWE’s edition of SmackDown! we will see RENE DUPREE take on JOHN CENA in one round of the Number One Contenders Tournament. This match was made by Theodore Long following Rene Dupree’s uncalled for interference at the Great American Bash where he viciously attacked John Cena with a chair which resulted in John Bradshaw Layfield capturing the WWE Title. This match is not just a tournament match though, it is a match of hatred between these two men and it can surely only escalate from here. Can Rene Dupree back up his actions from the Bash and his words from last week? Or is the former WWE Champion going to defeat the man who’s interference cost him his title at the Great American Bash?

Of course, this isn’t the only match in the Number One Contenders Tournament, the winner of Rene Dupree versus John Cena will take on the winner of this match between the Big Red Machine KANE and Latino Heat EDDIE GUERRERO . Eddie Guerrero ended his bloody feud with Rey Mysterio in tag team action as he and his nephew, Chavo, defeated Rey Mysterio and his partner Juventud on a high note as he pinned Rey Mysterio in a bloody and brutal affair at the Bash. One man who did not feature at the Bash was Kane. Kane was traded from RAW in the Lottery Draft but failed to make a giant impact upon his arrival, he will look to change that by defeated a former World Champion in Eddie Guerrero for a chance to become Number One Contender.

REY MYSTERIO will return to the ring for the first time since his bloody, feud ending match against the Guerrero’s at the Great American Bash when he teams up with the HARDCORE HOTTY CONNECTION to take on the Tag Team Champions, MNM and their partner, a man who has been on a mission recently - MARK JINDRAK . Jindrak has used his devastating move known as the Jindra-Driver as well as an Implant DDT from the top rope known as the Reflection of Perfection. Jindrak has been getting his way as of late but could all this change in the six man tag match on SmackDown!?
