What? I expect your post to be deleted because it makes no sense. ANYWAYS, about the diary, I know which direction you are roughly going in so I look forward to seeing how yu play that out. Not much of a shame with Hall and Bagwell going and I think it could be a blessing in disguise to have them gone already before they mess up plans you might have had for them and mid-through they ruin them. Looking forward to seeing how the Gauntlet goes down, hopefully Shamrock is a major player in this TNA too and Jarrett doesn't hold the title from the start.

TNA, to me anyway, seemed to get off on a very bad start. It seemed like they were trying to get the guys that the WWE didn't want from WCW. Guys like Bagwell, Hall, Nash, Savage and they seemed to be falling into the same trap WCW did. With this diary, and Hall and Bagwell already out it might be a very good deal.

I have to disagree with Colt on the Shamrock part. I think that TNA should be written like it was built for in the beginning, giving the young guys the credit they deserve. Shamrock has gotten his fame, as has Jarrett and while they should be key players, I think they need to stay out of the main events.

They've just started showing Classic TNA on TWC(The Wrestling Channel) and I can say it was a lot better then than it is now. Alot of people may disagree with me but it was more of a WWE alternative back then than a WCW Jr. that it is now, I mean six-sided rings, Monty Brown getting a major push, countless title shots and still NO gold. I watched either the second or third TNA show ever on TWC the other week and it was Jarrett/Killings vs Hall/Sexay and it was a great match aswell as watching Malice(RIP) destroying everyone in his path. He was a great wrestler and almost did get a shot at greatness. Lets hpe you do the same with some other superstars.

NWA:TNA on Pay-Per View

June 19th 2002

Live from the Von Braun Centre; Huntsville, Alabama

The first ever NWA:TNA Pay-Per View opens up with a fast-paced video montage highlighting all the greats from the NWA over the years, including the likes of Ricky Steamboat, Larry Zbyszko and Dusty Rhodes. We then go LIVE inside the Von Braun Centre, where JOEL GERTNER is standing in the middle of the ring! Gertner, who has toned down his act quite a bit in order to appear on the Pay-Per View, welcomes us to what he calls “a new era in professional wrestling.” He then hands us over to our commentary team, a man he calls “the voice of wrestling” MIKE TENAY and DON WEST! Mike Tenay said it was an “honour and a privilege” to be here witnessing the birth of Total Non-Stop Action, claiming that TNA was fresh competition for the WWE. West was in 100% agreement with Tenay, screaming that this was going to be an “unbelievable night of action!”

Tenay then took us down to ringside, where he introduced none other than RICKY “THE DRAGON” STEAMBOAT to the screaming audience. Steamboat thanked everyone who was in attendance tonight for making the trip to Huntsville, and everyone who was watching at home for ordering the Pay-Per View. He went onto say that the NWA World Heavyweight Title was the most prestigious in the world of wrestling EVER, and that tonight it would be up for grabs in the best possible way – a “Gauntlet for the Gold” Match. However, he was interrupted by JEFF JARRETT, who walked out onto the ramp with a microphone in hand. Jarrett claimed that TNA was “his own playground”, and he shouldn’t have to go through a stupid Gauntlet to win the title. Steamboat retorted by saying that Jarrett was everything that’s wrong with Wrestling today, with people like Jarrett using their power and their egos to dictate what goes on. Jarrett began walking down the ramp and slid into the ring as “The Dragon” promised that just because Jeff’s daddy owned the company, he wouldn’t be getting any special treatment. Jarrett looked extremely pissed off, and suddenly smashed his guitar over the head of Ricky Steamboat! Shards of guitar flew everywhere as Steamboat crumpled onto the floor, as Jarrett put his sunglasses into his pocket. Jarrett vowed to show Steamboat just what he could do later on in the Gauntlet tonight, by winning the NWA World Heavyweight Title!

After all the commotion had been cleared from the ring, Mike Tenay built NWA:TNA’s first ever match up as “what TNA is all about.” He said that the two competitors, JIMMY YANG and SONNY SIAKI. Yang was a member of the Yung Dragons during WCW, whilst Siaki had been trained by the WCW PowerPlant as well as “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes. The match soon started after both men had been introduced, and the fast paced opening was quickly replaced by a slower style, which suited Siaki down to the ground. He was able to keep Yang off the ropes and used a variety of power moves on his smaller opponent. Siaki locked in a sleeper hold and almost choked Yang out, but the youngster fought back to his feet and managed to break free, before knocking Siaki down with a Spinning Heel Kick! Yang then headed up top and signalled for a move that Mike Tenay called YANG TIME, but Siaki was able to force himself into the ropes and crotch Yang on the top rope! Sonny then joined him on the turnbuckle and tried to set Jimmy up for a Superplex, but Yang knocked him back down into the ring before hitting Yang Time! Yang quickly scampered on top of Siaki and hooked the leg, and the referee counted the one two three! Yang got to his feet and his hand was raised by the referee, before the victor celebrated on the turnbuckle. Sonny Siaki then got to his feet and offered his hand to Yang, which the victor graciously accepted. The fans applauded Siaki’s show of sportsmanship, when suddenly Siaki took Yang down with a vicious Clothesline! Siaki looked down on Yang before pulling him up, and then hitting the SIAKILYPSE! Sonny looked extremely pleased with himself as he headed to the back, to a small number of jeers from the fans.

Next up was a tag team match, pitting the team of BRIAN CHRISTOPHER and DAVID YOUNG against the team of AJ STYLES and LOW-KI. Mike Tenay said that David Young was “the master of the Spinebuster”, whilst AJ Styles is one of the most promising wrestlers in the world. Meanwhile, Brian Christopher is a veteran tag team wrestler and knows “all of the tricks of the trade”, so Styles and Low-Ki would have to be on their A-game to keep up with Young and Christopher. The match started with Brian and Low-Ki in the ring, with the former WWE tag team Champion dancing around the ring. His opponent Low-Ki didn’t take to kindly to his antics however, and nailed BC in the leg with three stiff kicks. Christopher quickly began to take things seriously as he charged at Low-Ki, only to get knocked down with a big kick to the face! The fans cheered ‘Ki as he looked around before making the tag to AJ Styles as Christopher tagged in David Young. Things started off brightly for AJ as he showed his skill with his feet, kicking away at Young’s legs. However, David didn’t go down and grabbed hold of AJ’s leg, before pulling him towards him and hitting a Spinebuster! AJ clutched at his lower back as Young went to work, before tagging in Christopher. This pattern continued, with Young and BC tagging each other in and out, isolating Styles and keeping themselves fresh. However, AJ was able to stop the pattern with a Tilt-a-Whirl Backbreaker on Christopher after catching him coming off the ropes! Styles made the tag to Low-Ki who entered the ring, but wasn’t able to prevent David Young from being tagged in. However, Low-Ki’s kicks were enough to give him the advantage over Young before Brian Christopher got involved, attacking Low-Ki from behind. The numbers advantage soon took their toll, until AJ Styles was able to take David Young out with a Cross Body from the top! AJ got to his feet and was charged by Christopher, but was able to backdrop his opponent to the outside! AJ followed it up with a Somersault Senton to the outside, causing the referee to turn his attention to the outside. Low-Ki moved in for the kill on David Young, but was stopped in his tracks with a low blow! He was then sent full pelt into the ropes, before getting crushed with a devastating SPINEBUSTER by Young! He covered Low-Ki and the referee turned around, before the counting the three! Young went to the outside and helped Brian Christopher to his feet, before the two made their way backstage leaving AJ Styles looking disappointed, and Low-Ki in pain on the mat.

David Young & Brian Christopher def. AJ Styles & Low-Ki (Young p. Low-Ki)

As Low-Ki was helped to the back by TNA officials, we were taken backstage where “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” KEN SHAMROCK was shown standing by with NWA:TNA Reporter; Jeremy Borash. In a brief interview Shamrock claimed that he was here for only one reason – and that was to win the NWA World Heavyweight Title. He said that the NWA is the biggest and best wrestling organisation in the World, and it was only fitting for the best – and most dangerous wrestler in the world to represent it.

Back in the Von Braun Centre, former ECW star STEVE CORINO was making his way to the ring. Corino got on the mic and said that is was nothing but a shamble that he wasn’t in the ‘Gauntlet for the Gold’ tonight. However, there was a man in the match that didn’t deserve to be – and he was out here to challenge that man for his sport in the Gauntlet tonight! Corino paused, before yelling for JERRY LYNN to accept his challenge! It didn’t take long for “The New F’N Show’s” music to hit, and Lynn came sprinting down the ramp! He slid into the ring and was met with some kicks from Corino, but Lynn managed to get to his feet and nail the “King of Old School” with some forearms to the face. The match began to lean towards the more technical side of things with both men countering the others’ holds, but things soon degenerated into a brawl when the match spilled to the outside. It was here Lynn took control, battering Corino around the outside before heading back into the ring. Lynn covered but only got a two count, before setting Corino up for the CRADLE PILEDRIVER! However, Corino managed to power out and flip Lynn over before attempting a Superkick, but this time Lynn avoided the move and ducked. Lynn went for the Cradle Piledriver again, but Corino again managed to weasel his way out of the move – and this time nail Lynn with some OLD SCHOOL EXPULSION! Corino covered Lynn and got the three count, and will now replace Jerry Lynn in the ‘Gauntlet for the Gold’ tonight!

Steve Corino def. Jerry Lynn via Pinfall

No interviews or backstage happenings occurred next, as we went straight to our penultimate match of the night. This three-team elimination match saw THE SHANE TWINS (Mike & Todd), CHRISTIAN YORK and JOEY MATTHEWS and THE HARRIS BROTHERS (Ron and Don) all compete to be the last team standing. Mike Tenay briefly explained the rules, saying that anybody could be tagged in by anyone else, but as soon as one of your team is pinned you’re out. Ron and Todd start things off, as both men try to one-up the other by using their strength. However, things end in a stalemate so Mike Shane and Joey Matthews are tagged in. Matthews charges at Mike only to get easily taken down with a shoulderblock by Mike, before a cover gets a two count. Joey Matthews was bounced around the ring for a bit before managing to tag in Don Harris, and more power was put on display. Somewhat surprisingly however it was the Harris Brothers who were the first to be eliminated, as Mike Shane managed to hit a SAMOAN NECKBREAKER on Don Harris, and Ron was blocked off from making the save by both York and Matthews. The two smaller competitors then rushed Mike, but were no match for the powerhouse as he shrugged them off with ease. He tossed Joey Matthews to the outside leaving Christian York as the legal man by default. York was battered by both of his opponents, but Joey Matthews soon tried to interject himself into the match. His attempts at turning the tide were short lived however, as Todd Shane entered the ring, lifted him onto his shoulder and dumped Matthews to the outside! At this point Christian York was left with no hope, and his misery was ended when Mike Shane’s Samoan Neckbreaker connected for the second time tonight, and was followed by the academic three count.

The Shane Twins def. The Harris Brothers and York & Matthews

As Mike and Todd celebrated, Mike Tenay and Don West went over the rules for the Upcoming Gauntlet one more time. Once everything was in ready and in place, we were taken to the ring. Joel Gertner was out in the ring again, this time to introduce the first two competitors in the Gauntlet for the Gold! The first man to enter was none other than KEN SHAMROCK, who would now have to go through nine other men to win the NWA World Heavyweight Title! Out next was a man by the name of Chris Harris, who tried to jump Shamrock straight away but was put down by the World’s Most Dangerous Man. Two minutes eventually passed with Shamrock dominating continuously, and the next man made his entrance – CHRISTOPHER DANIELS! Daniels tried to pry Shamrock away from Harris but only to get a belly to belly for his troubles, and Shamrock continued to look dominant as he began to work over both men. Just before the next man entered, Shamrock managed to eliminate Chris Harris as he picked him off the mat following another belly-to-belly, and throwing him over the top rope! The next man out was Steve Corino, who had won his right to compete in the Gauntlet in his match against Jerry Lynn earlier on in the evening.

Order of Eliminations:

1. Chris Harris by Ken Shamrock

2. Norman Smiley by Ken Shamrock

3. Christopher Daniels by “The Wall” Malice

4. Elix Skipper by Steve Corino

5. Steve Corino by Jeff Jarrett

We rejoin the Gauntlet with; Ken Shamrock, Jeff Jarrett, The Wall and RICK STEINER left in the ring, slugging it out. Steiner and Shamrock are double-teaming Jarrett in the corner, whilst Malice is catching his breath in the opposite corner. The counter counting down to the final superstar to enter the Gauntlet is at 1 minute 11 seconds. Steiner and Shamrock began to try and eliminate Jarrett from the ring, but Malice got back to his feet and pulled Steiner back into the ring before hitting him with a CHOKE SLAM! The Wall then dragged Steiner back to his feet and threw him over the top rope, eliminating him from the match! Malice then began to go after Shamrock, but The World’s Most Dangerous Man exploded with a flurry of left and right hands, before putting him down with a quick Snap Suplex! Shamrock then went looking for the Ankle Lock, but Jeff Jarrett broke up the move. The former UFC fighter managed to shrug Jarrett off with an Irish Whip into the corner, before stumbling back into the ropes out of tiredness. Malice got to his feet and charged Shamrock, but got back body-dropped to the outside! As the clock hit ten Shamrock stared at Jarrett, who begged for a ‘time out’ but didn’t get it, as Shamrock charged at Jarrett! He began to bundle him over the rope, and almost had him eliminated when suddenly SEAN O’HAIRE slid into the ring as the clock hit zero! He pulled Shamrock away from Jarrett and spun him round, before lifting him up onto his shoulders and hitting a CRUCIFIX POWERBOMB to the outside! O’Haire roared at the top of his voice before turning and facing Jarrett, slowly walking towards him with a menacing look on his face. Jarrett cowered in the corner, before O’Haire stopped and began to… smile? Jarrett grinned in turn, and raised his hand to high-five the former Natural Born Thriller. O’Haire then hopped over the top rope and onto the apron, before hopping down onto the mat eliminating himself. The bell rang as the last man was ‘eliminated’ and O’Haire re-entered the ring, this time with the NWA World Heavyweight Title. Mike Tenay and Don West were livid, saying that Jarrett had aligned himself with the tenth man to ensure victory. As the first ever NWA:TNA Pay-Per View came to an end, Jeff Jarrett made the referee attach the belt around his waist before climbing up on the turnbuckle in celebration.

I'm liking the show, it worked for what was needed and here are my thoughts on each match/angle/segment/whatever...

- Having Steamboat there is always nice for this sort of thing due to the fact that he has the respect of the fans and helps the segment when introducing a title such as he NWA World Heavyweight Title.

- It's alright I guess the way you are going to go with this recap style of doing shows, so the first match is a good one with Yang and Siaki, I had hoped they would be teaming up but at least they made it onto the pay per view. I was going for a Siaki win with him being more of a TNA talent than Yang because Yang started in WCW and may get snapepd up, but it's alright, good match.

- Despite knowing the reasoning to you having Styles lose to Young and Brian Christopher, it doesn't make me any happier. Although at least make it go somewhere, with possibly Young and Ki getting a match in the future to settle it in a one on one type match. Anyways, oince again a good moving forward match that worked, good stuff again.

- Shane Twins win here, nothing to see >_>.

- MAIN EVENT TIME! I really liked this match, I was suprised to have you go with Shamrock being the first entrant as I was hoping he would have won the title but alas. Malice was strong in this match which was good, and the ending was weird and bizzarre but I guess it worked for the cause and that is to have 'Planet Jarrett' being able to have backup whenever he needs it and having the sort of influence that the companies top heel should have. Jarrett wins the title, nothing to see except good writing of a pay per view and a good show to boot.

Good stuff, looking forward to the other titles being decided and what lies ahead for Shamrock/Jarrett and a Jarrett program.

TNA NEWS – FIRST PPV BUYRATE, MORE ON HALL + BAGWELL, X-DIVISION AND MORE…

Excerpts from the June 23rd WrestleFest Newsletter

Early reports are suggesting that NWA:TNA’s first Pay-Per View drew a 0.19 buyrate.  Whilst this is a decent number, both Jeff and Jerry Jarrett are keen to increase this number over the coming weeks.

Scott Hall has gone on record as saying that “he won’t work for the NWA again” after being released from his NWA:TNA contract, after claiming on WrestleFest’s very own radio show that TNA was relying on smaller guys to much, when they should be using more big names like himself.  Hall has also stated that he’s currently in talks with the WWE about returning to the promotion, although most see this to be quite unlikely.

However, former WCW star Buff Bagwell still seems to have a future with NWA:TNA.  Bagwell was checked into rehab after admitting to TNA officials that he has a drug problem, is expected to be kept on with the new company once he has got himself clean.  However, how much of an asset he would be is questionable.

The second of TNA’s Pay-Per Views will mark the beginning of a tournament to crown the first X-Division Champion.  The eight-man tournament will begin with four matches next week, followed by the semi-finals and final in a fortnight’s time.  Some of the name’s expected to be involved are; AJ Styles, Low-Ki, Christopher Daniels and Jimmy Yang.

Staying with AJ Styles, TNA officials are said to be extremely high on the former WCW youngster.  However, any pushes planned for him may be on hold, as he’s scheduled to join New Japan Pro Wrestling on tour for the entire month of July.

Ken Shamrock is also scheduled to join NJPW on tour, which has apparently left TNA sweating on their main event scene.  With Buff Bagwell in rehab and Scott Hall no longer with the company, the only person that is currently in a position to ‘lead’ the company is Jeff Jarrett, and he has no foreseeable competition.

Great start here. I really liked how the gauntlet main event was done, with some detail about the beginning, and then a quick round-up of eliminations and then the end of the match. Yeah, so good start, I'm looking forward to the next show (Y)

Not a bad "restart" at all. Jarrett winning the title was perhaps not the best choice, but I understood the motivations behind it.

For the record, a Gauntlet For The Gold Match is a standard timed Battle Royal until the final two men are in the ring, at which point the Battle Royal rules exit and the match becomes a standard one on one match.

Good start, and I give the opening show a grade of C+.

How exactly? I didn't watch TNA from the beginning, but I do know that Ken Shamrock was the first ever TNA Champion, yet in this diary Jeff Jarrett won it. Sean O'Haire wasn't in the real life gauntlet. There's another thing that's different.

NWA:TNA on Pay-Per View

June 26th, 2005

Live from the Von Braun Centre; Huntsville, Alabama

NWA:TNA’s second PPV kicked off with the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion JEFF JARRETT in the ring, along with Sean O’Haire. Jarrett, who had a smug smile on his face said that last week he proved to everyone – especially Ricky Steamboat that he was worthy of the title. He went on to say that he didn’t need any special treatment – because he was the best wrestler in the company. He’s also the smartest – because he ensured that he would win the Gauntlet when he got the man standing next to him – Sean O’Haire on his side. At this point, Jarrett was cut off by RICKY STEAMBOAT, who stepped out onto the ramp with a big plaster on his forehead as a result of Jarrett’s attack last week. “The Dragon” said that Jeff Jarrett was a disgrace to the NWA – and he cheapened the belt last week when he got Sean O’Haire to eliminate himself. However, Steamboat had a plan, and announced that he was bringing in someone next week who would teach Jeff Jarrett a lesson! But that wasn’t all. Ricky Steamboat also signed tonight’s Main Event – making a match between KEN SHAMROCK and SEAN O’HAIRE! Steamboat headed to the back whilst Jarrett tried to calm an irate O’Haire down, before eventually going to the back as well.

Jeremy Borash came into the ring and announced that the NWA X-Division Title Tournament was about to officially begin! He briefly went over the rules, saying that the semi-finals and final will be head next week on Pay-Per View! he then exited the ring, and the two men who would compete in the first match came out to the ring; CHRISTOPHER DANIELS and JIMMY YANG! Tenay claims that Daniels is “the best kept secret in professional wrestling”, and that we may recognise him from WCW. The match began with a back-and-forth technical battle, before Daniels managed to gain control after applying an armbar. He then switched his focus to the body of Yang, and hit a Sideway Slam before going for a Complete Shot, but Yang was able to block with elbows to the back of the head before knocking Daniels down with an Enziguri! He then went up top and signalled that it was YANG TIME, but Daniels was able to roll out of the way before impact! Yang got to his feet sheepishly, before Daniels booted him in the gut and connected with a spinning sit-out Pedigree, known as the ANGEL’S WINGS! With Yang set up in the perfect position, Daniels springboarded up onto the top turnbuckle before connecting with the BEST MOONSAULT EVER, followed closely by the 1-2-3! Daniels refused to allow the referee to raise his hand, before snatching a microphone. He said that he was “The Fallen Angel”, and he was going to conquer the X-Division – and that wasn’t a promise, it was gospel.

After Yang had gone to the back under his own power, LOW-KI made his way to the ring ready for the next match in the X-Division Title Tournament! His opponent was then introduced as PAUL LONDON, who Mike Tenay said had been brought in from Ring of Honor to compete especially in the X-Division! The match began and Low-Ki went straight for the legs of London with his trademark kicks, but London fired straight back with some kicks of his own! Low-Ki managed to stop London with a double-overhanded chop that sent London backwards into the ropes, before attempting to Clothesline London to the outside. However, he was backdropped to the outside by his opponent, before London took a couple of steps back and charged at the ropes, hopping up onto the top one and launching himself into a Shooting Star Press straight into Low-Ki! London was able to get back to his feet relatively quickly, and did so amidst a large number of cheers from the appreciative fans. London dragged Low-Ki to his feet and rolled him into the ring, followed and went for the cover but ‘Ki managed to kick out on two. London went about trying to put Low-Ki away at every possible opportunity, but was unable to keep him down for the three count. Following a trio of Snap Suplexes, London clambered to the top turnbuckle and went for a Shooting Star Press known as LONDON’S CALLING, but Low-Ki stuck a boot up straight into the face of London! ‘Ki got to his feet as Paul staggered backwards into the corner, and then got hit with a Rolling Kick from Low-Ki! London staggered forwards this time, straight into a KI KRUSHER ’99 from his opponent! Low-Ki covered London and hooked the leg, before the referee counted the academic three count! Low-Ki got to his feet and celebrated, but waited for London to get to his feet before offering his hand. London didn’t hesitate to shake it, and then went to the back whilst Low-Ki remained in the ring and celebrated.

The penultimate match in the first round of the X-Division tournament was up next, with SONNY SIAKI going one-on-one with “The Insane Luchadore” SUPER CRAZY! Tenay and West hyped up Super Crazy, obviously reminding us of his days in ECW. The match began and Crazy ran rings around Siaki, and almost scored the quick win following a Sunset Flip as Siaki went for a back-body drop. However, Siaki gained control with a sneaky thumb to the eye of his opponent when he was backed up into the corner, before almost taking his head off with a clothesline! Siaki arrogantly began to work over Crazy, hitting a variety of power moves. Siaki eventually placed Crazy on the top rope and joined him, looking for a Superplex. However, Crazy was able to push Siaki back down into the ring before hitting a Hurricanerana! Siaki rolled to the outside but there was no respite for the “Ace in the Hole”, as Crazy climbed out onto the apron and flew into Siaki with an Asai Moonsault! The action soon headed back into the ring, and Siaki had managed to fight back and was now going back and forth with Super Crazy. Crazy looked to be gaining control as he knocked Siaki to the ground, before heading over to the corner as he signalled for the Trifecta of Moonsaults! However, Siaki quickly got to his feet and cut Crazy off, pulling him back into the ring and hitting the SIAKOLYPSE! Siaki covered Super Crazy, and got the three count! Siaki picked up the upset win over the former ECW superstar, and wasn’t in a hurry to leave as he celebrated his victory in front of the fans – and Super Crazy.

As Super Crazy made his way to the back a video was shown, recapping last week’s ‘Gauntlet for the Gold’. The main point of the video however was to remind everyone of Jeff Jarrett’s deal with Sean O’Haire, which saw the former WCW man enter as the tenth entrant, quickly eliminating Ken Shamrock – and then himself to give Jarrett the NWA World Heavyweight Title. a graphic was then put up promoting tonight’s main event, which will see Ken Shamrock take on Sean O’Haire!

Back in the Von Braun Centre, AJ STYLES and JERRY LYNN were ready to compete in the final match of the TNA X-Division Title Tournament’s first round. Tenay and West put over AJ Styles as the match got underway, claiming that he had a bright future ahead of him in TNA. In the ring, Lynn was in control after managing to reverse a headlock from Styles by pushing him into the ropes and then hitting a dropkick. Lynn used his wealth f experience to remain in control, causing Mike Tenay and Don West’s claims to loo unfounded. However, AJ was resilient enough to survive numerous near pinfalls, as well as claw his way to the ropes whilst locked in a half-Boston crab. The match then swung in Styles’ favour, as he stopped Lynn mid-Hurricanerana and countered into a Powerbomb! Styles kept hold of Lynn and then began to pull him back up, as West yelled that “the Styles Clash was on its way!” Styles was unable to hit the move however, as Lynn managed to keep his arm free and sit up, clubbing AJ in the head! Styles fell backwards and Lynn hopped off as AJ got to his feet, before booting him in the mid-section! Lynn the lifted AJ up and cradled his leg, before completing the CRADLE PILEDRIVER! Lynn rolled Styles over and made the cover, and advanced to the semi-finals! After the match Lynn and Styles shook hands, before AJ took a microphone and said that he was heading to Japan for a month or so – but when he comes back he’ll be better than ever and be ready to take the X-Division by storm! He left to mild applause from the crowd, who didn’t seem overly interested in Styles’ promise.

Jeremy Borash then entered the ring to introduce the competitors for tonight’s main event. In a match made earlier by Ricky Steamboat, SEAN O’HAIRE will take on KEN SHAMROCK in singles action, as Shamrock attempts to gain some revenge over O’Haire for eliminating him in last week’s Gauntlet for the Gold. O’Haire entered the ring without Jarrett at his side, and Tenay speculated as to why the champ wasn’t out there. Don West put it down to “Jarrett being afraid of Shamrock”. The match began and O’Haire tried to intimidate Shamrock, but the “World’s Most Dangerous Man” was having none of it as he quickly began taking out his frustrations on O’Haire. Shamrock was relentless as he pounded away on O’Haire, throwing him all around the ring – inside and out. As the match wore on it looked like Shamrock couldn’t lose, but as he was about to apply the ANKLE LOCK following a Release German Suplex that dropped O’Haire on his neck, JEFF JARRETT slid into the ring and blasted Shamrock in the head with a Guitar Shot, in full view of the referee! The bell was rung for disqualification immediately, but Jarrett stomped away on Shamrock as O’Haire got to his feet. Jarrett then slid to the outside and pulled a table from underneath the ring, before setting it up a couple of feet away from the apron. He instructed O’Haire to “finish him off!”, and O’Haire lifted him onto his shoulders, and sent him to the outside and crashing through the table with a CRUCIFIX POWERBOMB! Jarrett laughed and re-entered the ring, this time with a microphone in hand. As TNA on PPV went off the air Jarrett told Steamboat to bring in whoever he wants – because you have just seen “what’ll happen to ‘em!”

Damn, Jarrett is definitely sticking it to everyone in TNA right now and standing on top much sooner then he did in real life. Liked the series of X-Division matches and the tourney seems to be going really well. Siaki is one man I thought could have done awesome in this division in real life, hopefully someone uses him right *nudge, nudge*

TNA NEWS – BUYRATE DROPS + JARRETT’S CHALLENGER

Excerpts from the June 30th WrestleFest Newsletter

The buyrate for NWA:TNA’s second weekly pay-per view fell .05 points to 0.14, which has been met with a feeling of “massive disappointment” by TNA higher-ups, according to our source. Many people feel that the drop is because people aren’t prepared to pay money each week to watch a promotion that is generally perceived as second rate to the WWE. Others feel that it’s because Jeff Jarrett simply isn’t seen as someone to ‘lead’ a company, with many fans seeing Jarrett as “that guy who sings country music.”

TNA officials are hoping that this week’s ‘mystery challenger’ brought in by Steamboat to face Jarrett will give ratings a boost, although claims by sites claiming that it will be “Sting or Goldberg” are simply untrue.

AJ Styles’ decision to leave for Japan instead of staying with TNA has apparently seen the youngster slip down in the eyes of management. Some insiders believe that Styles has the potential to be a true homegrown talent for the NWA, and was in line to win the X-Division title on this week’s PPV before deciding to work NJPW’s tour.

Dark Match: Cassidy O’Reilly def. Elix Skipper with a Super Kick.

NWA:TNA on Pay-Per View

July 3rd 2002

Live from the Von Braun Centre; Huntsville, Alabama

The Pay-Per View opens up and after we’re welcomed to the broadcast by Mike Tenay and Don West, we go straight into the action as “The Fallen Angel” takes on Sonny Siaki in the first semi-final of the NWA:TNA X-Division title tournament. As the action got underway Mike Tenay gave us a brief history lesson about Daniels, once again calling him the best kept secret in professional wrestling. However, this obviously didn’t affect Siaki as he took control of the match and looked to pick up the win, nearly securing a three count following a Superplex from the top rope. Daniels began to fight back though, and managed to fight his way out of a sleeper hold before knocking Siaki down with a step-up Enziguri. Daniels then signalled for the BME, but Siaki was aware enough to roll to the outside. However, as he tried to catch his breath The Fallen Angel leapt to the outside and took Siaki down with a Springboard Moonsault! The match eventually headed back into the ring, and despite Sonny Siaki’s best efforts he was eventually hit with the ANGEL’S WINGS, before being put away for the three count with the BEST MOONSAULT EVER. Christopher Daniels will face the winner of Jerry Lynn vs. Low Ki for the X-Division title!

The current NWA:TNA Heavyweight Champion JEFF JARRETT made his way down to the ring, and was accompanied by his enforcer SEAN O’HAIRE. Jarrett took a microphone and said that tonight he would retain his title against whoever Steamboat had chosen to face him, and that he had “a little reminder” of what happened to the last person that tried to take his title. On the large video screen at the top of the entrance ramp, a video played showing the ending to last week’s PPV broadcast, where Sean O’Haire put Ken Shamrock through a table with a Crucifix Powerbomb. Sean O’Haire rubbed his hands together and smiled as Jarrett old us that Shamrock wouldn’t be back in TNA anytime soon, all because of “The Great One”. Jarrett was cut off by the music of RICKY STEAMBOAT, who was met with a loud chorus of cheers from the TNA fans! The Dragon promised us that Shamrock WILL be back in TNA, and has already told him that he’ll be going straight for Jarrett! Steamboat, who was face to face with the champion was suddenly knocked down from behind by Sean O’Haire, with a clubbing forearm to the back of the head! Jarrett and O’Haire stomped away on Steamboat before Jeff instructed O’Haire to pick Steamboat up, and go for the Crucifix Powerbomb! Just as O’Haire had the Dragon set up for his finishing manoeuvre though, CURT HENNIG came sprinting down to the ring – steel chair in hand! Jarrett quickly rolled to the outside as O’Haire dropped Steamboat and did the same, before the two retreated up the ramp. Hennig helped Steamboat to his feet, before the Dragon told Jarrett that tonight he’d be facing Hennig with the NWA Heavyweight Title on the line!

Next up was the match to decide Christopher Daniels’ opponent in the match for the X-Division title, as JERRY LYNN took on LOW-KI. The match started with a handshake between the two competitors before a tie-up officially signalled the start of the match. Lynn looked to take control with a series of holds, but was quickly sent retreating by some stiff kicks and chops from the mysterious Low-Ki. Lynn again tried to assert his authority on the match, but was put down on the mat with a devastating kick to the head. Much to everyone’s surprise he continued to dominate the match, keeping the veteran Jerry Lynn from getting any offence in at all. However, the former WWF Light Heavyweight Champion seized upon a mistake by Low-Ki when he took to much time in going to the top rope, and was thrown back down to the mat by Lynn. Lynn quickly grabbed hold of Low-Ki and used to ropes for leverage as he took him down with a Tornado DDT, before picking him up once more. This time Jerry put Low-Ki down for good, slamming his skull down to the mat with a CRADLE PILEDRIVER. The three-count inevitably followed, and Jerry Lynn advances to the final of the X-Division title tournament to face Christopher Daniels!

We’re taken to the backstage area where RICKY STEAMBOAT is standing next to CURT HENNIG, with Jeremy Borash standing to his left. Borash asks Steamboat why he brought Hennig in to take on Jarrett, and the Dragon said that it was simple. He thought long and hard about who would be the best option to wipe “that smug smile” straight off of Jarrett’s face, and there was only one person in the race – Curt Hennig. Curt smiles as Borash turns his attentions over to the man that will face Jeff Jarrett later on tonight, and asks him why he’s so confident of beating the champ. Hennig says that there’s only one reason why Jarrett is the champion – Sean O’Haire, and tonight Ricky Steamboat will be accompanying him to the ring, to make sure that O’Haire doesn’t get involved!

We cut back to inside the Von Braun Centre, where CHRISTIAN YORK and JOEY MATTHEWS are set to take on THE SHANE TWINS. Much like their first encounter in the triple threat match a couple of weeks ago, York & Matthews were unable to take Mike or Todd off their feet, which lead to a very one sided affair. However, the two managed to resist the three count with a number of near falls, despite Joey Matthews falling victim to a devastating Samoan Neckbreaker. However, despite the Shane Twins’ domination it was York and Matthews that came out on top, thanks to former ECW valet FRANCINE. “The Queen of Extreme” distracted the referee – and the Shane Twins just long enough for York and Matthews to grab steel chairs from ringside, and nail Mike and Shane on top of the skull! Todd rolled to the outside whilst Christian headed to the top rope, and nailed Mike with a Frog Splash! Francine dropped back down to the floor and the referee turned around, just in time to make the three count! After the match York & Matthews lifted Francine onto their shoulders and carried her to the back, as the Shane Twins looked on angrily.

In a brief backstage segment, “The Fallen Angel” CHRISTOPHER DANIELS was shown having a conversation with STEVE CORINO before shaking his hand and walking off – with a smile on his face.

Back at ringside JERRY LYNN was already in the ring, as CHRISTOPHER DANIELS made his entrance. Once both men were inside the ring the referee raised the X-Division title belt, a gold-plated belt with a large red X on the front, into the air. This match was quite a slow-starter, which Mike Tenay put down to the fact that both men had already been in action earlier on tonight. Most of the match degenerated into an all-out brawl, with the action frequently spilling to the outside. Jerry Lynn was almost counted out after getting Suplexed into the crowd but managed to slide back into the ring just in time, much to the annoyance of Christopher Daniels. Tenay and West began to speculate as to what Daniels was talking to Steve Corino earlier, as “The Fallen Angel” worked away on Lynn – and almost got the victory following a Sidewalk Slam. Lynn managed to mount a comeback late on in the match, but a misplaced forearm put the referee on the mat, allowing STEVE CORINO to hit the ring, steel chair in hand! Lynn turned around after checking on the referee straight into a blistering chair shot straight to the skull, immediately laying him out flat on the canvas. Corino quickly brought the referee back to his senses as Daniels, who had been recomposing himself in the corner quickly sprung back into action, and hit the unconscious Lynn with the BEST MOONSAULT EVER! The still-groggy referee made the three count, and Christopher Daniels was crowned the NEW X-Division champion! Steve Corino handed “The Fallen Angel” his newly won title and raised the first ever X-Division champion’s hands up in the air, before rubbing salt into Jerry Lynn’s wounds with a couple of kicks to the head.

Christopher Daniels def. Jerry Lynn via Pinfall

Daniels is the new X-Division Champion!

After Lynn had been helped to the back by NWA:TNA officials, it was time for the main event! Jeremy Borash entered the ring and introduced CURT HENNIG, who was accompanied to the ring by Ricky Steamboat! “Double J” JEFF JARRETT then made his entrance, title belt around his waist and guitar over his shoulder, as well as Sean O’Haire by his side. In the ring Hennig made a title motion around his waist, and let the champ know that he’d be going home with the title. The match got off to a quick start as the two men’s hatred for each other began to pour out, with lots of straight up brawling. Sean O’Haire looked to get involved as often as possible, taking cheapshots as Jarrett threw Hennig to the outside and then distracted the referee. However, the numbers were quickly levelled up again as “The Dragon” pulled O’Haire away from Hennig, and turned his chest beet-red with six or seven knife-edge chops! After turning back into a one-on-one contest, the match soon fell apart again with O’Haire entering the ring and going after Hennig, but he saw it coming and connected with some right hands! Jarrett tried to come to O’Haire’s aid but he was quickly taken down by Steamboat, as O’Haire reversed an Irish Whip attempt from Hennig and walloped him with a Big Boot! With Steamboat concentrating on Jarrett the 6’6” monster was able to come up behind the TNA Director of Authority and hit him with a Low Blow! At this point the referee called for the bell, but this didn’t stop Jarrett and O’Haire for one minute as the still NWA Champion instructed O’Haire to pick Hennig up. As he did so Jarrett went to the outside and took his title belt, before getting back into the ring. He held the title right into the face of Hennig, and told him that he would never get his hands on it. Jarrett looked to be done and turned away, but quickly snapped back round and drilled the metal belt straight into the skull of Curt Hennig! The former WWF Intercontinental Champion slumped to the floor, and a close-up revealed a trickle of blood starting to run down his face. Jarrett placed the title belt in the centre of the ring and took hold of Steamboat, before setting him up for THE STROKE! Jarrett looked into the crowd and laughed before slamming The Dragon down into the title, and as TNA on PPV went off the air it was Jarrett and O’Haire who had once again stuck it to TNA!

TNA NEWS – HENNIG + PPV RATINGS + CHRISTOPHER DANIELS

Excerpts from the July 4th WrestleFest newsletter

Despite the finish to this week’s NWA:TNA pay-per view, many expect Curt Hennig to stay with the company. TNA officials were impressed with the reaction Hennig got from the live audience, and a quick poll conducted via their website showed that 88% of fans wanted to see Hennig get another chance against Jarrett.

Word is that TNA management are still unhappy with the ratings for the weekly Pay-Per Views, despite a slight rise up to 0.15. Last night’s show was considered to be TNA’s best yet, with the X-Division tournament final and the main event scoring the highest amongst viewers. Officials are hoping that the show will encourage more people to tune in next week, as they aim to improve on the ratings.

The reason for Steve Corino being paired up with Christopher Daniels is said to have been because of feedback received from focus groups TNA ran. A couple of weeks ago it seemed like Corino didn’t really have a place in TNA, but after last night it seems like he will be part of one of TNA’s main storylines.

NWA:TNA on Pay-Per View

July 10th 2002

Live from the Von Braun Centre; Huntsville, Alabama

The PPV kicks off and we’re welcomed to the show by Mike Tenay and Don West, who briefly run-down what we can expect tonight; which includes Sean O’Haire taking on Rick Steiner and finding out why Steve Corino helped Christopher Daniels out last week. However, before any of this we’re taken to the ring where PAUL LONDON and SPANKY, a wrestler making his TNA debut, are standing in the ring. Tenay gives us a brief background check on Spanky, who is apparently the WWA Cruiserweight Champion. Despite the fans’ lack of interest in the match, it was clearly the best match of the night as the two youngsters put on a fast-paced, frantic contest. Paul London eventually came out on top after pushing Spanky down to the mat as he went for Sliced Bread #2, before hitting him with a Shining Wizard. From there he went up top and finished his opponent off with a Shooting Star Press known as the LONDON’S CALLING, which was closely followed by the three count. Once Spanky had got to his feet the two men shook hands before Spanky made his way to the back, as London celebrated his victory.

Paul London def. Spanky via Pinfall

After the match we cut to the back where JEFF JARRETT is standing with Sean O’Haire on one side and ‘JB’ Jeremy Borash on the other. With the NWA World Heavyweight Title proudly on display around his waist, Jarrett went straight into addressing Ricky Steamboat; saying that no matter who the Dragon brought in, there was “no way in hell” that Jarrett would lose HIS title. Jarrett dared Steamboat to bring in another “legend”, but promised that they would suffer the same fate as Curt Hennig did last week. Jarrett’s attentions then switched to O’Haire, who would be facing Rick Steiner later on tonight. “Double J” said that he knows Steamboat is just trying to eliminate O’Haire from the picture, but surely he can do better than Steiner? Then again, judging by the last two idiots that Steamboat’s brought in, maybe not.

We cut back to the ring where FRANCINE is pacing back and forth, with a microphone in hand. She precedes to call out Mike and Todd Shane, asking them if they wanted revenge for what happened last week – when she helped “her boys” Joey and Christian embarrass them in this very ring. It wasn’t long before THE SHANE TWINS’ music then began to play, and out came Mike and Todd looking especially unhappy. They entered the ring and looked to corner Francine, but were quickly attacked from behind by YORK & MATTHEWS! Francine quickly left the ring as Todd was thrown to the outside, leaving Joey and Christian to double team Mike Shane. Soon after a referee hit the ring and called for the bell, and it looks like we’ve got an impromptu match on our hands. Having gained the advantage with their ambush, York & Matthews “cut the ring in half” and isolated Mike from his partner Todd, but still couldn’t get the pinfall. Eventually Mike managed to make the ‘hot’ tag to Todd, who came in and cleaned house – until a blatant low blow right in front of the referee from Francine caused the referee to call for the bell. The Shane Twins were awarded the victory thanks to disqualification but as Joey, Christian and Francine retreated up the ramp, the Shane Twins were clearly fuming at the outcome.

The Shane Twins def. York & Matthews via DQ

Another match quickly followed, and this time it came from the highly rated X-Division as CHRISTOPHER DANIELS, accompanied by Steve Corino made the first defence of his title against the somewhat surprising choice of JIMMY YANG. However, the youngster from Hollywood showed that he clearly deserved his shot as he took the fight to Daniels early on, and nearly caught the champ off guard with a smart inside cradle as Daniels played to the crowd. Daniels went to the outside and tried to discuss tactics with Steve Corino, but Yang hit the top rope and launched himself into both men with an amazing Moonsault that got the crowd on their feet. Yang dragged Daniels back into the ring and went looking for a pin, but Daniels avoided losing his title by inches as he managed to kick out of a Michinoku Driver variation. Eventually Yang’s inexperience cost him the match, as he went up top looking for Yang Time, but Daniels managed to get his knees up. The ANGEL’S WINGS quickly followed, and Daniels made his first defence of the X-Division Title a successful one.

Christopher Daniels def. Jimmy Yang via Pinfall

As soon as Daniels was handed his belt STEVE CORINO entered the ring holding a microphone, and demanded that everyone “shut their holes” and give him the respect he deserves. Corino said that everyone had been asking him why he attacked Jerry Lynn last week, and why he joined forces with the Fallen Angel. Corino claimed that it was simple – he had been overlooked by TNA management when they didn’t put him in the Gauntlet for the Gold, and it was left to him to get a spot in the match. Then, on the next Pay-Per View, he wasn’t even BOOKED! So when he was sitting at home, he made a decision – to make it impossible for NWA:TNA officials to overlook him, and make an impact. He then explained why he’d joined up with Christopher Daniels – because he was another man that had been criminally overlooked throughout his entire career. Last week was just the first step – Steve Corino and Christopher Daniels are taking over TNA! Corino dropped the mic and looked to leave, but JERRY LYNN suddenly stormed the ring and took it to Daniels and Corino! Lynn looked unstoppable as he took it to the two men who had cost him the X-Division title – until the King of Old School threw a white powder into his eyes. Blinded, Lynn stumbled around the ring aimlessly until he was nailed between the eyes with a shot from the X-Division Title by Christopher Daniels! The two men raised their hands over the motionless Lynn, but Tenay and West claimed that this issue between the three men was far from over.

The final match of the night saw SEAN O’HAIRE take on RICK STEINER. O’Haire was accompanied to the ring by Jeff Jarrett, but he was able to simply sit back and watch as O’Haire dominated from start to finish. Jarrett’s ‘backup’ looked to be enjoying himself as he threw Steiner around the ring, before eventually pinning him following a Crucifix Powerbomb. It looked like the PPV would end right there, but Jeff Jarrett had something else to say. Once again he told us that this is what would happen to anyone that tried to stand in his way – whether it’s Ken Shamrock, Curt Hennig, or Ricky Steamboat himself. However, the Dragon’s music soon hit and the DOA made his way out to a thunderous reception, and told Jarrett that if he was so confident of being able to beat anybody, then he wouldn’t have a problem with the match Steamboat had lined up for him next week! Jarrett looked intrigued, as a smile began to creep over Steamboat’s face. In 7 days’ time, Sean O’Haire will be BANNED from ringside, as Jeff Jarrett defends his title in a Falls Count Anywhere match… against the HOMICIDAL, GENOCIDAL, SUICIDUL SABU! In the ring Jarrett almost froze with fear, as the broadcast faded to black!

NWA:TNA on Pay-Per View

Preview for Wednesday 17th July

Last week on Pay-Per View Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat dropped a bombshell on NWA World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Jarrett, when he booked the champ in an ‘Anything Goes’ match for the Heavyweight Title, against none other than the Homicidal, Genocidal, Suicidal Sabu! However, that wasn’t all – Jarrett’s ‘insurance policy’ Sean O’Haire will be BANNED from ringside! Has Steamboat finally found the man to take the title from Jarrett?

News has just been passed to www.nwatna.com that Steve Corino and the X-Division Champion Christopher Daniels will face Jerry Lynn and Low-Ki on this week’s Pay-Per View! The match comes about after Steve Corino and Daniels once again beat Jerry Lynn down last week, and Lynn asked TNA officials for a chance to take out the two men. However, NWA:TNA management decided that Lynn wouldn’t be allowed to compete unless he could find a partner – and Lynn chose Low-Ki. Apparently Lynn was impressed with the youngster after their match in the X-Division title tournament, and decided that he was the best man to partner him against Lynn and Corino!

Finally, four young X-Division up-and-comers will get to showcase their talents; as Spanky takes on “Primetime” Elix Skipper and Paul London goes one on one with TNA newcomer “The American Dragon!”

Well, we have AmDrag in TNA for the first time. Interesting to see what Jarrett will do without O'Haire there to help him out. I don't really like the pairing of Corino and Daniels against Lynn and Low Ki but it works I suppose.
