Hostel movie

Is this movie as scary as they say it is? I'm hoping to go see it tomorrow if I hear any good remarks about it. Is it as gory as it looks from the previews? Did anyone pass out like they said some did in the test screenings?

Agreed on the boobie comments, as they were everywhere. Felt bad for the girl who was with us...

It was gory, but nothing overboard. I think the whole "paramedics on call" thing is BS, as I don't recall flinching once.

You know a movie isn't too great when you end up thinking about a charactor's missing passport more than anything else in the movie.

I think the reason a lot of people didn't like this was 1) They thought QT directed it instead of forking over moeny for the movie and then "sitting in a chair and eating donuts" as he puts it, 2) The fact that the plot wasn't blatantly explained, 3) The fact that nobody got the homage to Miike by him having a cameo in the damn film.

This is like Miike goes American, I enjoyed it because of that.

Went on Friday and saw this with a group of people. It's full of tons and tons of blood, vomit, violence, and tits.

Tarantino didn't direct it, as damshow pointed out, but you can definetly tell that he had an influence on the film, based on how it was like many of his other films. Tarantino never does anything in order.

Top notch stuff.

There was an interview where Miike actually said the film was too gory for his tastes. Which Eli Roth loved. (Y)

He's mellowed out. Ichi the Killer has far more blood than this.

THERE IS AN ENTIRE ROOM COVERED IN INTESTINES FOR GOD'S SAKE

I'm willing to bet the Hostel shown in theaters is cut and stuff. From what I've read, the version shown at some festival was extremely gory.

Yeah, I've heard that the "real" version, as well as the theatrical version, are slated for individual DVD release.

I thought it was, for the most part, terrible. The first 45 minutes or so is borderline softcore porn, both in content and quality of storyline, just full of bad acting and ugly women with plastic tits. None of it's actually scary, but a couple of the torture scenes made me flinch a bit, which is an achievement in itself.
