I think Peter Angelos is spending more of his time and energy trying to fight off the Nationals than actually putting a better product on the field.

He always bitches about them. He spent 2 years crusading about how they'd steal all his fans and money. And then he spent money on ADVERTISING to make sure fans stuck with the O's.

He's due to sell the team in a few years though, and Baltimore shall rejoice.

Wow, All Star break and AJ is healthy. Hopefully Ted gets #8 tomorrow.

The Red Sox would REALLY help the Blue Jays if they lost, you know, at least once in a while.

Seriously, Halladay / Burnett / Lilly is a pretty strong top 3, while Jannsen's future looks safe.

Wonder if the Jays will trade for another arm?

ESPN baseball analyst Peter Gammons stricken with brain aneurysm

June 27, 2006

BOSTON (AP) -- Peter Gammons, an ESPN analyst and a member of the writer's wing of the baseball Hall of Fame, underwent brain surgery Tuesday after he was stricken with an aneurysm near his Cape Cod home.

The 61-year-old Gammons was resting in intensive care Tuesday night following the operation, The Boston Globe reported on its Web site.

Gammons was taken to a Cape Cod hospital Tuesday morning and then airlifted to the Boston area. The newspaper said he's expected to be in intensive care for 10 to 12 days.

Several ballplayers called the press box during Boston's game against the New York Mets for updates on Gammons' condition.

"Peter is one of the Hall of Famers we have on TV, and everybody has a lot of respect for him," Mets pitcher Pedro Martinez said in the visitor's clubhouse after the game. "I wish him well."

They may, but they shouldn't. They're going to do more damage if they think this is the year than they will if they are patient over the next year or two.

With a healthy Burnett, the Jays do have one of the top starting rotations. But this is not the year for them to win the division. If they are in the hunt for the Wild Card in late August, then awesome. But next year is the goal for the team.

Guest Mr. Potato Head

So I was at today's Toronto/Philly game (GREAT seats, fourth row behind home plate...probably on TV, in a grey Roots Canada T-shirt and sunglasses).

Pitching looked terrible, Gibbons stuck with everyone for about two batters too long. Burnett wasn't even close to his last start.

Philly's Valentino is one fast motherfucker, makes routine ground balls look close.

Umpiring was, of course, terrible. Inconsistent strike zone, strike 3 on a foul ball...we got a few breaks our way too though, a play at the plate where I *think* the Toronto runner was swiped, but he flopped around a bit and got to the plate before Fasano.

And seriously, who rallies in the bottom of the ninth with two out?

If Nomar and Liriano don't win the final vote I might just not watch the All-Star game.

Also, the one player for every team rule is bullshit. Just give the host city a player and that's all. Mark Redman? Are you kidding me? Nothing about that guy screams star at all.

It's sad when Kansas City's best player is Mark Redman. PIT with Freddy Sanchez.

They suck huge.

Shitty line-ups. The AL reserves and NL starters, mainly.

I can't believe the only player the Reds got in there is Arroyo, and there are too many Mets starting.

HOW THE FUCK do the Braves get 3 reserves in there, when the team is shit?
