RK's Wants Music

:)

I have decided to use it to increase my knowledge of music/bands, 'cos I'm like that.

Basically, what I'd like is for you good people to recommend me a band that you think I might like/I should like/are freakin' ACE~!/whatever, with 2 or 3 songs of theirs to 'sum them up' for me to get off Limewire, from which I can sort of decide if I wanna hear any more of their stuff, etc.

So you have a reference of what I like, I'm into good indie music, classic rock'n'roll, punk, new wave, folk music, grunge, and a good hearty selection of past masters. Favourites include Bob Dylan, The Clash, Muse, David Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, QOTSA, and The Jam, amongst a host of others.

I've been trying to expand my knowledge of early punk, later new wave stuff, metal (some experiments with Metallica have left me more open-minded to it as something other than shouty thrashing), and grime, as well as dance music, electro and stuff like that - I like Massive Attack and Goldfrapp, anything along those lines would be cool I suppose.

Recommend me music, EWB!

I'll be a faggot and give my usual recommendations of metal...

Trivium:

A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation

Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr

30/30/150

Hell And Consequences

This is simply a list of less extreme songs I have. Anyone who knows me would know I listen to death metal, and 90% of the board and the world doesn't like death metal. The songs I listed are just songs I've been listening to of late.

I second the In Flames love, since if you are open to a bit more metal, they have a great mix of melody/thrashy stuff. Add Soilwork to that, of which I will recommend "Overload", "Rejection Role" and "Downfall 24/7" (I know they are all off the same album, but I'm more into In Flames than Soilwork.)

Also, Children Of Bodom may also be a good in-road into heavier stuff, as they have a nice mix of heavier stuff and synthy stuff that makes it quite accessible. Try "Needled 24/7" and "Sixpounder"..they also do a few decent covers that may be worth looking at.

Also, as you mentioned metal/dance/etc etc, try some middle-era Paradise Lost, where they went from doom metal to some kinda doomy Depeche Mode. "One Second", "Mercy" and the "Host" and "One Second" albums are the best showcase for that.

Oh, and add "Scent Of The Obscene" and "Pussyfoot" to the SikTh recommendations.
