Chelsa Vs MLS

Good victory for the MLS, but let's see them do that against a full strength Chelsea team.

They'd probably be able to hold their own for like 20 minutes, then the class would take its toll. Chelsea would beat an MLS All Star team relatively easily.

For those curious:

------------------------ Carlo Cudicini -------------------------

Gérémi -- Paulo Ferreira -- John Terry © -- Wayne Bridge

---------------------- Michael Essien ----------------------------

SWP --------------- Michael Ballack ---------- Frank Lampard

---------- Didier Drogba -- Andriy Shevchenko --------------

Hilario, Carvalho, Cole, John Obi Mikel, Robben, Kalou, Diarra and Jimmy Smith came on as subs (most of them at half time. Cole was brought on at half time and then taken off again seven minutes into the second half :\).

So it's not like it was their 59th-choice 11. Sure, subbing almost your entire team (only Terry, Geremi, Lampard and Essien played 90 minutes) and playing without your #1 'keeper and your first choice right-back is bound to hinder your performance. I'm not saying it was anything like a regular Premiership Chelsea side. But it's still no mean feat to beat them. Even in a friendly.

Edit: Besides, even if it was Chelsea's 59th-choice 11, it's still CHELSEA's 59th-choice 11. I'd still've put money on them :P

Still a respectable side to beat, but a 1-0 win in preseason really means nothing. 3-0+ then maybe, but 1-0, meh.

Even 7-0 would mean nothing. We're talking about Chelsea using this game to try out strategies to use against teams in the Premiership. What is a loss for them out of actual competition? They're winners if a tactic clicked and then it translats well to the Premiership...

Technically it was not the MLS best team either two of their teams are playing in a game today so Twellman, Dempsey and a few others were not there. The announcers did a good job of pointing out Chelsea were not in mid season form. Good win though, it’s a cheap all star team in mid form vs a expensive all star team a month removed from the world cup.

Regardless of who played, its a big win for MLS. While people who are used to EPL and watching footy on a regular basis won't look at it too much, it is a boost for MLS who also were signed for an ABC/ESPN Deal. First time anyone has payed to show a season of MLS. So the World Cup has had a bit of an effect, and the win yesterday helps.

This was a fairly significant win for the MLS guys, and perhaps could generate more interest all the way around for American Soccer.

Go to big cities and you'll see masses of youth soccer being started across the nation. Quite interesting to see if they'll continue on the path once they hit high school or if they go to out Football, Basketball, or Baseball.

I have noticed this over the recent years and it can only be a good thing for our future on the international scene and the MLS.
