SNL Cuts Announced

Question: Is Tina Fey going to appear on "30 Rock", or is she just working as a writer on it?

Both. She's the star and main writer on it.

As for the show, it seemed like they were headed for a radical change. Too bad the big problem with this is that Seth Meyers is still head writer after last season. The writing staff is really what needed shaking up and it appears there isn't much that did get shaken up after all.

In fairness, under Meyers SNL has seen the debut of the Digital Shorts, the best thing about the show since the Will Ferrell days. The only problem is the rest of the show. >_>

There was plenty of low-key stuff from last year that was good, just nothing blew up like the Digital Shorts did. The submarine sketch on the Scarlett Johansen episode was one of my favourites. As much as I don't like him Dane Cook was really good in the sweater sketch when he hosted. The entire Julia Louis-Dreyfus episode was good. The Needlers was a really good recurring sketch. Johansen was good again the send-up of My Super Sweet Sixteen. The Anderson Cooper celebrity hurricane relief sketch was good. Bill Hader did some great impressions, Vincent Price notably. Smigel continually brought it with good TV Funhouse stuff. I could go on. Rewatch the two seasons prior to last, it'll give you newfound appreciation for what they were doing last year.

I'm holding out hope because I always want to believe that it's going to get better. Last season was an improvement and you could see a pretty sizable shift in the writing, probably due to Meyers taking a larger role in it. I HATED Fey and Poehler as a team on Weekend Update and have always thought the Meyers was made for the job, so perhaps he can turn that part of the show around as well - it was definitley one of the weaker points of last season. I'm not bothered by the cuts, really, the cast had to get trimmed and they trimmed the people that have had enough time to establish themselves and didn't.

EDIT:

Technically that makes him a part of the only noteworthy part of last season.

There were other really good Digital Shorts that he had nothing to do with, though.

Yes. The peyote short with Samberg and Forte was (in my mind) just as funny as Lazy Sunday.
