Jasper Fforde's books are quite good from what I've read...even if what I've read has only been the first half of The Eyre Affair.

Snow Crash is a sci-fi novel but there's a lot of humor in it and the humor is fucking fantastic. So I wouldn't outright call it a "funny book" in the sense of it being a book you would consider to be made for laughs, but it is certainly very funny and damn good all around to boot.

Also, I love "Assassination Vacation" by Sarah Vowell but I'm also a minor history geek and I heavily doubt it would appeal to someone who isn't interested in US history.

In that case there's Katzenjammer by Jackson Tippett McCrae, it's more sarcastic then funny, but there is some humour.

"The Unauthorised Autobiography" by Lemony Snicket. I only read it today, I've never read anything else by him, but it's absolutely fantastic, really funny, and a quick read.
