ESPN Who's Now

ACCBiggz

Recommended Posts

Throughout July, "SportsCenter" will air "Who's Now," a daily series in which viewers will help ESPN determine the ultimate sports star by considering both on-field success and off-field buzz. Based on fan nominations, ESPN Research selected 32 finalists to square off in a single-elimination bracket. The winner of each matchup will advance based upon fan voting (70 percent) and ESPN's three-person panel (30 percent). In the first round, the panel consists of Michael Wilbon, Kirk Herbstreit and Keyshawn Johnson.

These are my predictions. I know I have Barry Bonds going a lot deeper than most expect, but the reason for that is 70% fan voting and later this month he will break the most hallowed record in baseball. I think that being plastered all over ESPN will sway the voters. Same with having ARod and Jeter going deep. Obviously ARod was going to go deep anyway, but considering he is all over tabloids with him and his wife and such I think that will help him get votes in this tournament.

If Chuck Liddell gets past Junior in the first round I havea good feeling about him beating Peyton. Yes he is the Super Bowl winning QB and so forth, but it's the offseason, we rarely hear anything about Peyton off the field, and Chuck is current with the fastest rising sport with a huge internet following. I think Chuck could pull off that upset.

In my opinion this idea is ridiculously stupid and unnecessary and is part of the reason why I can't stand to watch ESPN.

That said, Tiger Woods should win.

Sidney Crosby should come in second. :shifty:

Why? It's just something fun that ESPN is doing. It has no real merit and we are in the middle of one of the most boring sports months. All that is really going on is baseball, including the All-Star break, and NBA Free Agency. I like it when ESPN does stuff like this, it's just a fun little thing that fans can interact and share opinions on.

I enjoy poker on ESPN, but I say that I'm sorry for him that he judges ESPN like this. They also provide good game coverage by showing early rounds of majors in both Tennis and Golf, NFL Monday Night Football, NASCAR, MLB Games, NBA Games, etc. They also show many other programs that offer insight and good debates (PTI, ATH, M&M, Baseball Tonight, etc). and they are the Entertainment AND Sports Programming Network. They only covered Dancing with the Stars by showing highlights of people who were in the sports realm anyway. The ESPY's are usually fun to watch even if the fans are morons who won't vote for Federer last year :shifty:. It's an all-around good network that covers many things, and this is one of the things I like to see them do. There isn't much important going on to waste time on, and while this has no real merit or anything it's something fun and enjoyable for people to discuss and watch for those... 4 minutes they are talking about it on Sportscenter.

I just think, regardless of the people's opinion, who is on ESPN more often then Barry Bonds? Who attracts more attention in town then Barry Bonds? I think the man breaking one of, if not the, most amazing records in sports should get the nod.

... but he won't.

50.8 to 49.2.

*sigh* This really should not have been close. Beckham should have ran away with this. He's a bigger world star than LT and the other part of this Who's Now is off the field buzz.. LT has 0 off the field buzz surronding him while everyone talks about the Beckham family.

Anyone who thought Beckham or Serena would win (even thought they SHOULD have) is forgetting the meathead factor of the voters. Federer won't get far either. I wouldn't be shocked if Jeff Gordon beats Bonds in the 1R either. Just pick the chalk until the 2nd round.

2R

Tiger 65-35 over D-Wade

LT 67-33 over Nash

Dale Jr 52-48 over Peyton, NASCAR fans will vote like this means something

Kobe 54-46 over A-Rod in a battle of the A-holes

Gordon 51-49 over King James, again NASCAR fans will vote like this means something

Jeter 78-22 over Bush

Brady 55-45 over Hypeapova

Shaq 62-38 over Federer

----

QF

Tiger 77-23 over LT

Dale Jr 56-44 over Kobe

Jeter 71-29 over Gordon

Brady 50.5-49.5 over Shaq

----

SF

Tiger 54-46 over Dale Jr

Jeter 51-49 over Brady

----

FINAL

Jeter 54-46 over Tiger (ugh)
