Denmark's best-selling pop band ever is expected to announce that it is getting back together

Pop band Aqua, owners of the 2001 hit ‘Barbie Girl’, plans to announce on Friday that it is getting back together, reports Danish music magazine Gaffa.

Aqua is Denmark’s biggest-selling pop band ever, unofficially having sold some 30 million recordings. The band broke up in 2001 after releasing only two full-length recordings, and the love-it or hate-it ‘Barbie Girl’ remains one of the biggest international pop hits of all-time.

Aqua’s manager would neither confirm nor deny the reunion rumours, but MSN Gossip has got the information from several reliable sources that the band is slated to release a new CD and play 30 concerts next year. A greatest hits release is also reportedly on the way.

The band members were also seen together for the first time since the break-up at a party for producer Thomas Troelsen, formerly leader of the band Superheroes.

Claus Norréen, the band’s keyboardist, told B.T. newspaper that he would not comment on the situation before Friday.

‘We’ll have to wait and see what happens come Friday,’ said Norréen.

The band is considered Danish because three of the four members are Danish and their recordings were made, financed and produced in Denmark. But Aqua’s lead singer, Lene Nystrøm, is Norwegian.

Sweden’s ABBA is still Scandinavia’s biggest-selling band ever, with Aqua, Icelands’ Björk and Norway’s A-ha as other Scandinavian bands that have had the most international success.

Best news of the year

Wasn't Barbie Girl released in 99? I remember being in junior school when it was, and in 2000 I was in high school.

Anyway, fuck all reunions of dud pop bands. I think I may make a band, break up and then reform. Insta-record deal.
