"I am also aware of the [Microsoft Wiimote] rumour and have seen a fake image made by a fan on the web which looks like a Wii Remote with the rumour that such a controller may be launched, However there is no way for us to comment on such speculations. “All I can say today is, it is not that easy to develop software which leverage's the characteristics of the Wii Remote. We are not concerned about what other companies may do but rather more concerned with presenting them with new ideas to our customers based on the prospect that our existing customers will surely get tired of the plays enabled by Wii Remote if we do not try to improve the experience.

“In other words, what matters to us is whether or not we can continue to constantly create and offer new surprises one after another.”

SO the huge Nintendo boss calls it speculation and a bad rumour, Microsoft has been slow to comment on the leak however many people are taking this as 100% creating concept renders, and fan materiel, posting game ideas on forums and what-not. If the 360 mote is a true concept then the Wii may truly be in for a tough fight otherwise at the moment the Wii can be considered the most unique console available.

I doubt it'd work on 360 really.

Microsoft is focusing on the wrong rival if they do this. They aren't going to take the Wii audience unless they have the mascots that Nintendo has, that's a huge selling point of theirs. They need to make sure they catch the PS3 technologically and soon, because things are about to shift in their power struggle if not.
