Just picked up Team Fortress 2 for the PC the other day and had to install Steam, after all the negitivity i'd heard about it I thought it'd be a resources killer or something but it seems to work alright. It's pretty easy to find games and manage demos and video downloads etc.

So anyone else use it?/have an account there?/spend 18+ hours a day on their clan?

I figure we could probably set up some sort of EWB clan or something if enough people have the same sort of games.

I got steam to get CS: Source and I hardly even notice it's still running, No performance issues here, But each PC is different, So I don't know with you.

Yeah I used to play HL2 a lot so have Steam installed, and also bought Audiosurf through there and I've had no problems with it. Seems fairly simple to find anything, demos are useful and easy to install. I think most of the negativity came with the initial problems when HL2 came out and everyone tried to activate it at once and fucked the whole system. But I think Valve have definitely learned from that and hopefully such problems shouldn't happen again.

Yeah, I used Steam alot back in the day when I played alot of HL2. I never had any performance issues either, it ran just fine.

I play alot of Half Life 2 and Garry's Mod and have never had a problem with it. I heard so much about how it sucked and caused problems for many people, but haven't seen any evidence of it since I started using it a few months ago.

Felt the need to post this, there are 5 games that you can now get on Steam for free if you already own a source game (like half-life, Team Fortress 2 etc.)

Synergy - What looks like a team based counter-strike thingy

Zombie Panic - Half Life with 1000X more Zombies

Age of Chivalry - Counter-Strike WITH SWORDS :D:D

D.I.P.R.I.P - Some sort of car race/fighting game

Insurgency - Sort of like that army game from ages back, the one used for training soldiers.

The problems are few and far between, mostly from years ago. It's a great client, love it.

Steam are currently selling Half-Life 1 for 98cents until the end of today. That works out around 60p after tax for those UKers. Tis a brilliant deal and I've already got several hours play out of it.

I got Steam for FM 2009 which is downloading right now. Will I still be able to play it okay if I uninstall Steam?

Nope, I'm sure it only lets you play a game if you have steam. It loads Steam (in the background) before loading your game

Just move the contents of the steamapps folder out of the steam folder in program files and it should work without steam, maybe

Wait, no, Valve complete pack for $75 includes L4D along with a ton of CS games I don't have, and all the HL games I do. Conundrum...can you gift stuff individually from the pack?

you can't gift individually... unless it's something like Half Life 2 or it's episodes.
