My Favourite Songs Ever

Starting to get fed up of this now.

80. Cuyahoga - R.E.M.

Lifes Rich Pageant (1986)

LISTEN

SWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM. Good song. Also R.E.M.'s best song, which gives a hint as to their future in this list.

79. Apply Some Pressure - Maximo Park

A Certain Trigger (2005)

LISTEN

Maximo.applysome1.jpg

Maximo Park are a very, very average band. Main reason is because they have yet to put out anything even half as good as this. (Graffiti was 7/16ths as good) This is my driving on a sunny day song.

78. Arizona - Kings of Leon

Because of the Times (2007)

LISTEN

BOTT.jpg

Good song. Also Kings of Leon's best song, which gives a hint as to their future in this list. Molly's Chambers is actually better but I wasn't thinking when I set out this list... This was my morning after a party song until about a couple of months ago, when I stopped listening to music the morning after a party.

77. It's Probably Me - Sting (featuring Eric Clapton)

Lethal Weapon 3 Soundtrack (1992)

LISTEN

It

This is an exception to my rule that everything put out by Eric Clapton not involving Cream or Derek and the Dominoes is shite. DO NOT listen to Sting's album version as that is also dreadful. Sting was cool as fuck until he started wanking about with a lute.

76. Jackie - Scott Walker (not featuring Eric Clapton)

Scott 2 (1968)

LISTEN

Scott_2_-_Scott_Walker.jpg

The very thought of Scott Walker covering some French guy's song is delightful to behold, and the actual song doesn't disappoint. I actually prefer Montague Terrace and Get Behind Me but they are not on this list. Funny that...

NEXT UP

Number 75 is yet another Ryan Adams song, this time from his 2001 album "Gold".

Number 74 is not Simon and Garfunkel's best song, but I accidentally forgot to include any others so it is as far as this list is concerned.

Number 73 is Sting in his slightly lesser incarnation, as bassist in some band called the Police.

Number 72 is a Who song that had...ELECTRONIC BLIP BLOPS...IN 1971!!! No doubt Skummy will notify me of several hundred bands that had them before this...

Number 71 is a Smiths song about girlfriends having comas. I have seen it live.

That "some French guy" was one of the greatest lyricists of all time. And Belgian. With that in mind, "Jackie" is easily one of the three best Brel covers Walker did; along with Amsterdam and Mathilde, and probably the only that one really benefits from the grandiose orchestration. Bloody brilliant stuff. Along a (very) similar line is Eartha Kitt's "The Heel"; another Brel translation that musically is nigh-on identical.

Several hundred would be a push, but I could offer you a handful.
