Ninja Turtles comic question

When I was little, my mom used to buy me this Ninja Turtles comic book thing. It wasn't the size of a regular comic book, more like one of those Archie comic things. Anyway, all four of the turtles were in it, but one of them, Rafael if I recall, was completely black. I don't mean African American, I mean the color black. Does anyone else remember this, and, even better, does anyone know why his color changed? I've been looking all over Yahoo and haven't been able to find anything regarding it. If no one knows, it's cool. I'm just curious.

If memory serves me right, he was wearing a ninja suit or something. I don't know why that would make him pitch black, buthey. It was a phase of some sort he was going through...

I have a couple of comics with him in that suit anyways. I think one took place in a desert.

I had a few issues where the turtles participated in some kind of intergalactic wrestling competition. The turtles had to dress up differently, and one of them was in all black.

Wanna hear something funny? One of the two men who created the Turtles married Julie Strain, a former Penthouse Pet who does softcore porn movies!!!

As for the original b&w comic....there are a few major differences:

Baxter Stockman and April O'Neil were African-American.

Casey Jones was either supposed to be part Asian, or they just did a bad job of drawing him and he came out looking like he was.

No separate colors for the Turtles. They all wore red.

And, Shredder was killed in his first battle with the Turtles. (He got decapitated)

then the comic just ended. anyone know what was up with that?

IIRC, it usually took 2 or 3 issues to complete one small story, which is why it appeared to end abruptly after each issue.

The Turtles were held captive and forced to wrestle in the Intergalactic Wrestling Federation (I'm pretty sure that's what it was called). They were given costumes and Raph's was a full body black suit. After they got back to Earth, Raph decided he liked the costume and wore it for a while. I don't know if there was ever a really good reason given other than he just sort of liked it, but he stuck with it for a while until he switched back to normal. I don't think a reason was given for that either, but my memory's a little fuzzy.
