I think that we're pretty much done here. Or at least I am. Quom's was the last useful contribution to the thread; everything since has just been re-hashing.

If anyone is really interested in continuing the discussion in a way that doesn't involve going relentlessly over old ground or bitching about me in the Donators' forum because you're too much of a slack-jawed dullard to post something constructive in here, then there's always PMs.

Why are people so hemmed up on Polanski and what did/didn't/might have/already accounted for/etc happened ... and completely ignoring/not caring about/forgetting the fact that the judicial system itself screwed the pooch a bit ?

I don't in any way advocate Polanski and his actions, but I also don't advocate "the system" doing whatever the fuck it wants, when it wants, and how it wants.

That's essentially what I've been trying to say. I think Polanski should be punished for the initial crime - the rape. Rape - especially of a child - is one of the worst crimes you can commit, and I believe anyone who would have sex with a child, consentual or not, is one sick motherfucker. But any punishment for him fleeing the country should be a bit more lenient than it usually would be due to the dirty dealings by the legal system back when it originally happened, since that's one of the factors for why he fled. But I don't think he should get off lightly for the rape at all, even if the victim says he should.

And I'm not a Polanski fan, except for The Fearless Vampire Hunters, but it wouldn't change my mind if I was.
