Kilmarnock have parted company with manager Jim Jefferies and his assistant Billy Brown, saying that it was "by mutual consent".

The announcement comes days after a row broke out between striker Kevin Kyle and chairman Michael Johnston.

Kyle had claimed that Johnston had asked him to discuss 59-year-old Jefferies' tactics and selections.

Johnston has denied those claims, suggesting that the Scotland striker could face disciplinary action.

The departure of Jefferies brings an end to the former Berwick Rangers, Falkirk, Hearts and Bradford City manager's eight-year reign at Rugby Park.

In a club statement, Kilmarnock said: "An agreement has been reached among Kilmarnock Football Club, team manager Jim Jefferies and assistant team manager Billy Brown which will allow Messrs Jefferies and Brown to leave the employment of the club with immediate effect.

"The agreement was reached by mutual consent.

"Everyone at Kilmarnock Football Club wishes to thank Jim and Billy for their eight years of service to the club, a period which witnessed several top-six SPL finishes and the League Cup final in 2007.

"The club will now seek a new manager with a view to restoring its position in the top six of the SPL and challenging for this year's Scottish Cup."

yeah I'm gutted to be honest. My friends are split between those that are happy he's gone and those that aren't. Personally I think he's done a really good job working on probably the tightest budget in the SPL and I can't think of any better person for the job who is both willing and available.

On the other hand it's quite exciting because I can hardly remember the last time we were looking for a new manager. >_>

Mysterious circumstances you say?

I am fully expecting the Mystery Machine to pull up outside the Killie ground and a big doberman to get on the case... I expect it to be an old man that owns an amusement park/arcade/nothing relevant to the circumstances.
