Modern/Contemporary/Smooth Jazz

I'm looking at expanding some of my interest in jazz. But not really sure where to look into.

My best friend listens to older jazz, stuff from like the 60s and earlier... not a huge fan of that. I tend to like newer stuff, more contemporary. I also enjoy some good smooth jazz too.

Some jazz stuff I have and like includes:

- a couple of Wynton Marsalis albums

- that Herbie Hancock album of Joni Mitchell covers

- Bernie Williams, both his albums

- the smooth jazz channel on XM radio, Watercolors 71 - but I don't listen to it enough to pay attention to names.

- The Rippingtons have some pretty good stuff too.

Anyone got any other suggestions of stuff I should check out?
