I think, honestly, the best way to do it would be to have the GM or Coach from each of the Stanley Cup Final teams select their conference's rosters. Rules are, at least one player from each team in your conference... no more than two from your own team. 12 Forwards, 6 Defensemen and 3 Goalies, with any alternates due to injury being from the Coach/GM's team.

The one thing I do like about having players pick teams is that it's something no other major league is doing. The NHL's getting good at finding ways to stand out from the pack.

Gotta love the french press in Montreal. Markov hasn't even had a MRI yet and there's speculation of the injury being as severe as 1 year by the Journal de Montreal , but the journal is like the Toronto Sun only somehow actually worse of a paper. Many are suggesting 3 months, and there's a few holdouts for 4-6 weeks...

Again... not even an MRI yet, they're still waiting for the swelling to subside and then Markov's specialist is in Cleveland...

Habs to get pole axed by the Flyers tonight. Then Auld likely starts against the Preds beore round 2 against the Leafs...

Speaking of, I think tonight the Leafs will win. Preds are pretty awful right now, it'll be a basement shootout at the ACC.

Allan Walsh, agent of Miroslav Satan has apparently been talking up his client to Pierre Gauthier.... ew.

Maybe because most of their employees have been locked out for years? :P

Philly is due for a huge loss.

Basha is just predicting a shellacking so he can come in and claim what a contender Montreal is if either of the other two possibilities (which are both more likely than the Habs getting pounded) occur.

There are few teams I really hate more than Philly. From trying to goon after they couldn't beat Price, to Powe throwing a hit that simply defines the blindside rule, to Pronger taking the game puck and finally having Mike Richards get upset and call out PK Subban for being too talented..erm sorry, cocky for his age.

On the one hand, guys like Pronger and Richards are super talented. Obviously both were a part of Canada's gold medal last year and they've got the numbers to prove how good they are. But while we expect Pronger to act like a bitch when he loses, I don't understand why Richards is going after Subban... Should Subban not skate, hit, pass and shoot as well as he can? Is it not allowed to verbally spar with other players on the ice? The kid doesn't get intimidated by anything and I think that it's one of those qualities that I would say is excellent while he's on my team but a cocky asshole when he's not... but I'm a fan, not a team captain.

Here's what Richards said after the game about Subban, I especially love the threat he lays down at the end of it...

"He's (Subban) a guy that's come in the league and hasn't earned respect," Richards told the Team 990 radio station after the game. "It's just frustrating to see a young guy like that come in here and so much as think that he's better than a lot of people. You have to earn respect in this league. It takes a lot. You can't just come in here as a rookie and play like that. It's not the way to get respect from other players around the league.

"Hopefully someone on their team addresses it, because, uh, I'm not saying I'm going to do it but something might happen to him of he continues to be that cocky."

And Subban seemed to take the high road in his response...

"I have lot of respect for the guys in this league and (Richards) is a player who has been around for a while," Subban told reporters on Wednesday. "He's won a (Olympic) gold medal, he's the captain of the Flyers, and he's a player I looked up to when I was still playing in Junior. I just try to play the game as hard as I can. I'm a rookie in this league and I'm just trying to go out there and earn my respect."

So now next monday in Philly, it'll be the full goon show on display. Habs will likely get killed on the scoreboard and Subban will probably end up fighting. I would love to say against Mike Richards, but he's apparently not going to be the one to send his message.

Oh yeah, something else happened last night, some sort of a 41 save shutout or something...

The Flames trade Ian White and Brett Sutter to Carolina for Anton Babchuk and Tom Kostopoulos.

Le sigh.

Robyn Regehr or Jay Bouwmeester should have gone instead of White.

Sutter moving was inevitable after his incident last week. Darryl needed to make an example, and that was the best one to make.

Babchuk and Kostopoulos are both good pick ups, but it doesn't make up for losing Ian White. Kostopoulos will be a really good checking line player and Babchuk is really stepping up as an offensive threat from the blueline, and he has a really big shot.

Darryl Sutter needed to make a move, because this is his last chance to make something of the team. I get that... but it seems like he's too hesitant to get rid of a big name, and instead keeps giving away our lesser names, who are some of our better players.

Rumor is Iggy for B. Schenn.

I love Jarome, but it's time. He came over for Captain Joe in 95, and it's time to make a similar move.

Of course, it wouldn't be a one for one deal, though. The Kings would need to shed some more cap in order to afford Iginla's $7 million hit, and Sutter would have to get another prospect and potentially a roster player to make the media avoid trying to chop off his head.

Moving Iggy doesn't put us in a "Full Rebuild" mode, because we have some big pieces in place right now. Rene Bourque is arguably our hardest working player and could conceivably fill the role that Iggy has played for 14 years. Kipper's still in net, and Henrik Karlsson looks like a legitimate possible successor to that throne. Our defense is still loaded with a few guys in Abbottsford who are ready to step up.

I think it's a good move for both sides. I'd like to see Iginla win a cup before he retires, and the Kings have a very good team right now, and their cupboards are loaded with prospects. The Flames could benefit from putting the leadership on someone younger going forward, giving more ice-time and responsibility to players like Bourque, David Moss and Curtis Glencross.

I really hope that something happens here. Brayden Schenn, possibly Thomas Hickey and a depth forward who can play in the NHL right away would be a good package for Iginla.
