Eurovision 2011

I just love the idea that this is the UK's big attempt, and if fucking Blue can't win it then the reason we never win is definitely political, completely ignoring the fact that Blue were fucking wank when people actually knew who they were.

I'd have preferred Another Level.

The thing is, even average pop acts can do really well in Eurovision - look at Bucks Fizz or Tatu for example. The average quality of track is low, partly because Eastern Europe are still a good 10-15 years behind Western Europe and half of Western Europe just makes weird music anyway.

Of course that's beside the point now the Eastern Bloc is so "powerful" in the voting system.

You're right, but don't forget that prior to the last decade British pop was fucking woeful, taking in the likes of Steps and the Spice Girls. Its only since Americans like the likes of Beyonce upped the game that Girls Aloud et al actually started having decent songs (I'm as indie a kid as you'll ever find but its undeniably that Love Machine is a fucking tune) and being successful, rather than aiming crap at 6 year olds.

Whoever it is who decides on our Eurovision entrant clearly hasn't grasped that fact, hence picking the likes of Blue or Scooch (who weren't popular even when shit pop was king), or that Andrew Lloyd Webber fiasco that just missed the point entirely. Eastern Europe may still be catching up to that, but if we're putting forward crap that would have graced the charts 10-15 years ago anyway its not as if we can complain that we aren't beating the same rubbish. The fact that last years winner was a Kate Nash knockoff speaks volumes really.

Funny thing about the Danish contest was that we had one of the sisters from Ace of Base (remember them?) in the running as well. And the winner song (which i found rather good) made the swedes pissed, because it sounded like a song Andreas Johanson used a few years before. :lmao:

Jedward now have the advantage of being the last act on in their semi-final, and the acts towards the end do tend to get a little bit of a spike.

Also, I realised just how much I love "Love Shine a Light" today. By far and away the best Eurovision song.
