I'd rather see how he does in the World Cup first. He would be a good acquisition in relation to having a decent wing back, but I can't see him fitting into the set up at the Lane at all. IMO, he shines at Wigan, but wouldn't at Spurs.

A good World Cup could add a millio or two to that price tag though...

Plus, why wouldn't he shine at Spurs? He had an excellent season, got chosen as the right back of the season by his peers, and before you say "but Wigan have comparatively worse players", their backline was pretty under-rated, if a little slow (aside from Chimbonda himself). He played well in a good backline, and Spurs would do well to pursue getting him, I think.

Tottenham have secured a four-year shirt sponsorship deal worth £34million with internet casino group Mansion.

The new contract becomes effective on 1 July - when the current agreement with holiday firm Thomson expires.

Manchester United had been linked with Mansion until a tie-up fell through but Spurs have capitalised with a deal said to be in the world's top 10.

Spurs have also changed their shirt manufacturers, with Puma taking over from Kappa.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said: "Tottenham has made progress both on and off the pitch in recent years.

"It has put the club in a good position to improve its commercial partnerships and the new agreement marks a significant uplift."

Mansion chief operating officer David Kinsman added: "Spurs have enjoyed an excellent season, with European football to look forward to next year."

Is Chimbonda right back ? If he is im not that into him id prefer Leighton Baines as Lee Y Pyo hasnt got enough defensively. Ifil/Marney should be our first choice right back

Lee is our left back, not our right back.

Stephen Kelly is our best right back behind Stalteri at the moment, not Ifil or Marney. I can't see Kelly being a good starter for a whole season though. He's a decent back-up but I think we need a stronger right back.

Ha, that kit looks awful!

And Chimbonda was probably the best right back in the Premiership last season, and definetly better than Stalteri and whoever else you have there, and £4.5m is probably about right for him...but he'd definetly be worth £6m if you ask me.

Im saying if he is right back id prefer not to get him and buy Baines who is a great left back, much better than Lee

You're saying if Chimbonda is a right back, you'd rather get a left back? I'm sure we'll be looking at new players for both full back positions anyway.

Was it rvdwannabe who said that Wigan's back-line were underrated? They were noted as being the key to Wigan's success by many people throughout the season. I wouldn't say they were underrated at all, they got plenty of recognition and praise.

And from those pictures the new kit looks horrible.

I said it when Man Utd nearly signed a deal with Mansion and I'll say it again, thats the ugliest looking sponsor I've ever seen and the kit on a whole looks shite.

No, I'm saying it because it looks shit. A bird looks faggy on the same spread as a puma too.

They got occasional praise, but it wasn't as if you were hearing often about how good Henchoz and De Zeuuw had played, their attack got a lot of the praise for their performances usually. It is not as if when people chatted about the best players in the season you saw anyone other than Chimbonda from the backline, and thats why I say under-rated, cos they are relative to some of the bigger names.

All you ever heard about the Wigan backline was usually how slow it is, even though that doesn't affect the fact that they read the game better than most defenders do.

Well, Arjan De Zeauw (sp?) always got a lot of praise whenever there was a Wigan match on TV. The commentators would always talk about how he's probably been their best signing and how badly they missed him this year when he was injured. But yeah, that was all that I ever heard. Never heard anything said about Henchoz...which is good because I hate the prick. Costing us two damn goals the bastard.

Every team's attacking players gets the bulk of the praise, not just Wigan. They're the players who score the goals and set up the attacks of course they're going to get a lot of recognition.

You must have watched different programming to me or something, because most of the time I saw pundits analysing Wigan's play, they were always saying how good the defense had been. Yes, mainly Chimbonda because he's the most attacking defender from their line, but the others also had a lot of positive comments made about them.

AD, I have noticed how its been only recently that you've started contributing regularly to these threads and you also said you'd not seen Nolan this season or heard of Cattermole, from that I built the assumption that you haven't caught a lot of football this season.

I'm not saying that they don't get recognition at all, more relative to others. Just like how I think that although Boa Morte is good and gets praised as such, he is under-rated relative to the bigger names who aren't necessarily better.

It is name value and the club they play for that generally works for a player in that sense, and I doubt outside of actually making comments after Wigan played games, it is doubtful that many people are like "oh...you know who has been excellent this season? Henchoz", because they'd likely be creaming their pants over some other bigger name defender.

It's all relative that I'm talking about.

Actually I said I've seen Nolan once. By once I mean a full game, I've seen him a few times in highlights, but I've clearly seen games where he wasn't outstanding. Obviously I pay more attention to Tottenham than any other team so it's no surprise I'm not the king of knowledge about Boro back-ups or Bolton players when they're not exactly making the top headlines.

I watch a decent amount of football considering I follow 3 other sports as much as I do with football.

Well, even if you loosely follow the game I'd assumed you'd have been aware of Nolan this year, considering at times he has single handedly got Bolton wins. He hasn't made the TOP TOP headlines, but he has been in them regularly enough, especially around most England squad selection times, due to a lot of people believing he deserves a place.
