Only just saw this thread today, though I was aware of the news. Withnail & I is perhaps my favourite film, and Griffiths is magnificent throughout. History Boys is wonderful, and even in movies I don't like - such as the Harry Potter films - he was always a delight to watch. He also did a fantastic job as Swelter in the BBC's adaptation of Gormenghast; particularly pleasing for me, as I'd always imagined him in the role whenever I read the book.

I find myself more and more these days finding Monty's lines more hilarious and quotable than the more obvious Withnail quotes, with all their debauched bravado. I'm concerned that I'll catch myself unironically saying "My boys!" one of these days.

Very sad to hear of his passing.

The saddest part of it all, for me, was Richard E. Grant Tweeting "One last drink to Monty. Chin chin x"
