I've spent the last few days checking out all the bands that have been announced so far.

A few things I feel the need to bring up:

1. Jim Jones Revue seem cool as fuck.

2. T-34 have AL MURRAY on drums. No, there's no punch-line to that - the comedian Al Murray is their drummer.

Anywho, each year a mate of mine brings a home made copy of the line-up with him with colours denoting whether to see bands, etc. This year I've decided to be a bit sad/anal and do the same.

Here's what I ended up with... (spoiler tagged due to its size)

I have a few clashes, but it's not as bad as I first expected.

Friday:

Tyketto, KsE and partially CoCam.

Saturday:

Michael Monroe and RATM. I'm going to the free Rage gig, so I'll probably watch all of Monroe and the last 30 minutes of Rage.

Sunday:

Jim Jones Revue and Billy Idol. That's gonna be a bitch to decide on.

Porcupine Tree and Motorhead. Worst clash of the weekend for me, I think.

All in all, it's not looking bad. Sunday looks like it could be a great. Hopefully those times are right, as the clashes aren't the worst - and it means Saxon are getting 55 minutes! :w00t:

Neither of those are clashes! I'd see Billy Idol over Revue easily; I wouldn't MIND seeing Revue, but it's not hard to decide. I know you've seen Motorhead, but I'd see them for the 20th time over Porcupine Tree.

I think, of those are the times I've escaped quite well with seeing bands. I thought Sunday was going to be a mega-bitch for band clashes, but it looks like I'm getting a full day of music with minimal "missing out on bands." Though it'd be nice to have so many bands I want to see spread out over the three days...

EDIT - Just checked out die apokalyptischen reiter, and they clash with quite a bit. Darn it!

And while it sucks to lose Wolfmother, KSE are great, so it doesn't bother me too much.

Just a note for anybody who's looking to see AC/DC: they won't be playing the main stage, but instead their own tour stage, which will be set up nearby. I imagine this might be fairly shit for Them Crooked Vultures if everybody fucks off during their set.

I'm still not sure whether I'm happy I'm going this year or not. I look at the line up and the only band I really give a damn about (as in own the albums, bits of merch, yada yada) is Stone Sour. There are definitely other bands I am looking forward to seeing (Billy Talent, SKE, 36cf and a few others) but just not that pumped about this year. The acoustic stage should be a blast though and I'm hoping general festival shenanigans will make up for it.

Also, the fact I am attending with the least 'metal' people I know should be a proper chuckle as well. Not that I'm all that 'metal' myself (whatever it means) but still, hopefully it will deliver some funtimes.

I'm sure you've all heard already, but Stuart Cable has died, so therefore I seriously doubt that Killing for Company will be playing. If anyone is unaware, Cable was the drummer for The Stereophonics up until about 2003.

Ratt have also had to pull out after their lead singer was taken to hospital for emergency surgery. :S

Apparently the Friday main stage bands will be getting longer sets to make up for it. More Saxon would make me happy, though I expect it to be more spread between Dommin and Cinderella (and maybe Slash).

I really should give the times a look today, I'm supposed to be packing already. Is anyone (bsides DFF/WFS who it seems has already set off) going earlier since the campsite opens today? I would've loved to but I've got an exam tomorrow afternoon so it's a bit of a last minute job unfortunately.

Just got back...what an absolutely immense weekend. Saw so many terrific bands...AC/DC on friday and Rage Against the Machine on saturday were amazing, I've never experienced anything like it at a gig. Slash, Billy Idol, Killswitch Engage, Halestorm, Nonpoint and We Are The Fallen were all highlights as well. The weather was good...perhaps too good at times, got sunburnt pretty bad, but it suddenly turned into torential rain at the start of Billy Idol this afternoon, so we ended up calling it a day during Motorhead. Nonetheless, it's been a completely brilliant weekend from start to finish and I'd definitely do it again.

AC/DC were lazy as fuck (and quite dull) and they can go to hell for refusing to be named on any official merch.

Luckily, Rage and Aerosmith were great, and I really enjoyed Rock Sugar (who were just superb), Slash, Megadeath, Atreyu, Killswitch, Skin and Steel Panther. Year Long Disaster and Y+T were good also. I checked out 7 or 8 other bands with varying levels of goodness.

The rain ruined Sunday, I was enjoying Billy Idol a lot, but had to miss a large chunk of his set to go and get changed into waterproofs and warmer clothing. Because of this, I ended up missing Motorhead which I'm gutted about because I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY REALLY wanted to see them.

I was offered a last minute ticket to this for £30, but declined.

The organisation from friends within the festival industry was diabolical, and alot of people are saying it may not go on for another 2 years.

The majority of my friends who went didn't stay either, some came back Saturday morning, some Sunday, but most said the atmosphere wasn't to the standards of other festivals they've been to (Groezrock, Pukkelpop, Reading, Truckfest - hell, even last years Download) and the lineup wasn't up to scratch for the second largest alternative festival in the country.

Poor form

The problem I have with Download is that the line ups year after year dont change much or seem exciting to me. When I think of going I think back to a few years ago and think, "Wow, I am going to be going to almost the exact same festival :/ "

Enjoyed myself from a musical side of things but the fact that they allocated a three hundred maximum capacity tent for the football was a fuckin' joke. They are extremely lucky not to have had a riot on their hands during that, they very nearly did!
