  1. Firstly, I didn't say he couldn't anchor England's midfield, I just said he wouldn't.

Realistically, Beckham's not going to be dropped. In a footballing sense he's the captain and in the business sense he's the leading figure as far as merchandise is concerned. It'd take a manager with much more balls than McClaren or Sven to drop him from the starting line-up. Same goes for Lampard and Gerrard, who's club form alone guarentees them a place with England. With that, my point still stands that looking at things from a realistic view, Carrick's little chance barring any serious injury, of making his way into the team.

Secondly, I've gotta disagree with your comparisons to Makelele.

He and Carrick are two entirely different players, both in two contrasting teams. Makelele is, as you rightfully said, the best defensive midfielder in the premiership, but only because of the system that Chelsea play. Carrick doesn't have the same impact, regardless of what comparisons between the two can be drawn.

  2. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see why Jose would want to change his proven and successful formation to accomodate his new signings.

Ballack will take over from Essien, Shevchenko for Drogba and he'll rotate the others.

  3. Bollocks, I actually liked Rosicky. >_<

Apparently his deal with Athletico fell through due to them not affording the transfer fee. That, and the fact that Dortmund are near-bankrupt is probably why Arsenal's got him for so cheap.

  4. I'm actually glad we got hammered, in a way. The undefeated run we put together probably served to create a false picture of hope for next season. Yesterday's result proved how far we're off Chelsea and emphasised that new players are definetly needed.

It's a shame about Rooney, whilst I'm not an England fan I still would've liked to see what he could do in the World Cup finals.

  5. Although its only a minority, what a bunch of cunts.

It always seems to be Liverpool fans in these kind of situations and frankly if I were a supporter I’d be ashamed. Taking the piss out of the Munich disaster is as disrespectful as it gets, especially given the amount of respect they’ve been given over the whole Hillsborough incident.

You're always going to get the minority that'll be cunts though, and there's nothing you can do about it. You'll always get the odd Liverpool fan who thinks it's funny to take the piss out of Munich, whilst you'll always get the odd Man Utd fan that'll take the mickey out of Hillsborough/Heysel.

  7. I think we'll definitely make a move for him. Ferguson's made it no secret that he's an admirer and for the price being quoted, it'd be a bargain. There's no doubting his quality, but whether or not he'd fit in with the premiership is another question altogether.

  8. I put a fiver Each-way on the winner. I think the odds were something like 11-1 at the time, how much should I win?

You get £66 for the win, and 1/4 the odds for the place at £5 stake, which is....something, and then the £10 stake money back, of course.

Not too bad, all in all.

  9. I'm not doubting him as a player, I just don't realistically see him going.

He's unproven at international level and to throw him into the world cup finals would be retarded even by Sven's standards. Sven will bring five strikers, permitting he doesn't have an unlikely change of heart over Wes Brown or any of the others you've mentioned.

  10. I'd have to disagree.

The Arsenal team of the last few seasons has been built around Henry and rightly so. The style of play, the tactics and everything else is perfectly suited to Henry and therefore to take him out of that particular system would harm the team, especially against a club such as Juve.
