  1. Is Stringer a villain? I never really thought of him that way when I was watching the show. A lot of his actions could be considered evil, such as:

    Killing off D'Angelo, for example

but I felt The Wire did a great job in making him a three dimensional character rather than just 'the bad guy'.

  2. Not sure Berbatov will actually leave at all, he's on silly money at United and pretty much guaranteed to get a contract back in Bulgaria (or a higher paid league) no matter how many times he plays this season.

The only way I see him leaving is on loan but even then it'll probably be overseas, I just don't see United agreeing to loan him to Spurs unless they think he'll knock a few points off their title rivals.

Berba will leave. We extended his contract this year solely so we got a fee for him in the summer, rather than letting him go for free. Plus he does genuinely seems like he really wants to play football and won't be happy warming the bench for another year. There'll be teams willing to take him on as the window draws to a close as they'll be in a stronger position to negotiate a better fee with United as we will be more desperate to get him off the books, and lower wages with Berba as he'll want to move on and get his career going again.

  3. They bought Michu. He scored 15 goals in La Liga last year and was only £2mil. I think he'll probably be bargain of the season. Will most probably play in the Sigurdsson position I think. Just 26 years old too which just shows the value you can get abroad whilst someone British and halfway decent will go for £10-15mil minimum.

  4. Anyone who lives in Manchester, or is ever coming up here, should check out the National Football Museum. I only had enough time to check out the first floor but it is an amazing collection of memorabilia, stories, and just history of the game. It really is incredible to see how the game has changed from the footballs and shirts they used 100 years ago to what we have now. I'm looking forward to whenever I get a day off next to go and have a look at the rest of the museum. Plus it's free so there's no reason not to go really if you have the chance.

  5. Obertan and Bebe together were the definition of 'even a broken clock is right twice a day'. 85 minutes of laughable passes, touches, dribles, followed by an inexplicable goal or assist from one of them or sometimes even both! Yeah, Bebe doesn't really have much of a future at Man Utd but the guy's only 22 and has plenty of years left to carve out a career somewhere, be it back in the Portuguese league or the South African league (he looked like one of the better players in the last friendly there!). I'm not denying he's a very poor footballer at the moment, just he's shown enough in little glimpses to suggest he has a future in professional football somewhere, even if it's not going to be at Man Utd.

  6. Bebe isn't Man Utd standard, and probably never will be, but I have faith he'll go on to have a decent career somewhere. Fergie plays him on the wing but to me he seems like a striker. Physically he's at a very good level which will help him out, he's got a clear eye for goal and packs a hell of a lot of power in his shots (and in his Row Z crosses). A year or two with the United coaches to improve his glaring faults (lack of any sort of first touch etc.) and he could grow to be an alright player. At worst there'll always be a team willing to take him on, even if it is in a poorer quality league somewhere.

  7. Iain Dowie!

Who is the short guy in the black t-shirt at 0:29? He was in the queue ahead of me at Burger King at the train station about a month ago and some bloke was ecstatic to meet him because he used to play for Newcastle. The face seems familiar but I can't put a name to it.

  8. We don't really need RVP as we already have Rooney, Hernandez and Welbeck with Kagawa probably in a second striker type role. In some ways, I'd probably prefer Berbatov to stay and get more of a chance than us bringing in a new striker but that doesn't look like happening. Nonetheless, I still wouldn't say no if we did somehow buy RVP simply because he is such a great player. It's highly unlikely though since City will no doubt throw ridiculous wages at the guy and I doubt we'll splash £20mil on someone who turns 29 next month and will be on wages probably second only to Rooney. A midfielder is still the priority in my eyes and the money would be much better spent in that area.

  9. Yeah, West Brom in the 2008/09 season didn't secure a sponsor so they offered short-term sponsorship deals where a company would sponsor them for a few months at a time. Think they ended up with 7 or 8 different ones over the course of the season. I think Middlesbrough did something similar too.

  10. Sad to see Park leave, his work-rate and attitude have been priceless for us and instrumental in some very big wins over the years. Last season was a pretty poor one in terms of form for him so it's no real surprise to see him leaving. Nani, Valencia and Young will almost always be picked ahead of him on the wings, Kagawa will slot in that role behind Rooney that Park sometimes went into, and the times we had him in a midfield two were not very successful at all. Basically it seems to be a good move for all three parties - we don't really need him anymore and a potential £5mil fee is good business, QPR get a very experienced starter, and Park gets regular football.

  11. I love Del Piero. I finally got to see him play live at Neville's testimonial last year and it was just great to see him get a standing ovation then. I remember back in the late 90's where we seemingly used to play Juventus every year in the Champions League and Del Piero quickly became my favourite Italian player. Hell, I'd probably still take him at Old Trafford now as an experienced fourth striker option.

  12. Looking at the Sky guide, it says both ITV and BBC are covering the Czech/Portugal game tomorrow but neither has the Germany game on Friday? That can't be right surely? Saturday and Sunday are alternated between the two.
