  1. Everton have failed with a bid to sign England striker Michael Owen.

The Real Madrid forward, 25, looks likely to leave the Bernabeu and has been linked with a return to Liverpool as well as a move to Manchester United.

Boss David Moyes, who also said Everton had a £10m bid for Feyenoord's Dirk Kuyt rejected, stated: "We have been in contact with Michael and his advisers.

"Unfortunately he does not see Everton as a team he would choose at this present time."

Despite finishing fourth in the Premiership last season to earn a Champions League place, Moyes admitted he has found it hard to attract new players.

He added: "We offered £10m for Dirk Kuyt and that was rejected on 1 August by Feyenoord.

"I am trying to reassure fans I am in for most of the big names.

"We do have money to spend if the right players are available - but getting them in is the problem."

Owen spent much of his first season at Madrid coming off the bench.

And he has found himself even further down the pecking order at Real following the signings of strikers Robinho and Julio Baptista.

    Story from BBC SPORT:

  2. Villa have this afternoon agreed terms with Liverpool for striker Milan Baros.

The Czech international will now undergo a medical, with a view to signing  a four-year deal tomorrow.

Operations Director Steve Stride told www.avfc.co.uk : "We've reached an agreement with Liverpool to sign the player and the next step is for him to have a medical. Hopefully we can soon conclude the deal."

    Bout freakin' time.

  3. Everybody gets lucky or easy goals. I'm not trying to say he's worth the money because last season he was poor. His goals against Arsenal in the Community Shield show that he has some talent, but he's very inconsistent and is thus far probably the biggest waste of money in the last cuople years, just ahead of Reyes.

  4. Started today and right now I'm watching Paula Radcliffe in the 10,000m final. Doesn't look like she'll win it. She says it's just a warm up for the marathon.

They had the first two rounds of the Men's 100m. Gardner and Devonish are both in the semi final, but Lewis-Francis was pretty crap only scraping into the second round after being fastest qualifier then in the second round came 5th.

Kelly Sotherton is doing well in the Heptathlon lying 3rd at the end of today so hopefully she can hold on for a Bronze.

  5. Just had a quick look on the Spurs website and Jol says Davids will play today against Porto as will Robinson meaning that he should be fit for Portsmouth next week. Stalteri will also play after recovering from injury.

I think there are still some tickets left so I might pop down to see how the 'Pitbull' does.

  6.   Graeme Souness admits Jermaine Jenas wants to quit Newcastle because he feels he is "living in a goldfish bowl" while he stays at the club.

Arsenal, Spurs and Manchester United are likely to battle for the £10m-rated 22-year-old England midfield man.

"I've spoken to the player's agent and he tells me that JJ is quite happy with things at the club," said Souness.

"But he says JJ feels that it is like living in a goldfish bowl being a United player in Newcastle."

Jenas missed the Intertoto Cup exit against Deportivo La Coruna, but boss Graeme Souness hotly denied it was the result of a bust-up between the pair.

Spurs had been reported to be willing to exchange Robbie Keane for Jenas, but Souness dismissed the claims, insisting: "Robbie Keane is not the kind of striker I am looking for at the moment."

Souness, angry at suggestions Jenas missed the Depor game because he is going to be sold, said: "This is absolute nonsense. The only reason JJ was not involved was because he was injured."

But Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made no secret of his admiration for Jenas, and is still seeking a replacement for captain Patrick Vieira after his departure to Junventus.

Tottenham have signed Edgar Davids, but might still make a move if Jenas asks for a transfer.

Manchester United have also been linked, as they look for a long-term replacement for Roy Keane, and Middlesbrough are reported to be keen.

Newcastle initially placed a restrictive £20m price tag on Jenas, who has won 12 England caps, but may accept half that figure.
